brought out voters that were frankly really annoyed and fed up with the corruption in our political system and they were, you know, voting for democracy reform up and down. we've got hr-1 now in congress seeking to end all of these lies and that's where the american public need to be. but the kriblths we've been hearing from that crowd that has been peddling those lies i think is fairly telling. >> jameel, what do you think? >> i think she's right. we see here evidence of what actual voter fraud looks like, what ballot fraud looks like. and we shouldn't forget that north carolina's 9th congressional district is a very heavily white district. you have a district that's now almost 80% white. and yet the primary targets of this fraud were black and hispanic voters. so there's still a lot of missing ballots here. there's still a lot of things that are left to be investigated. this isn't over. >> yeah, that's a great point. i want to play a little testimony.

real problem we need to address. >> you look at this kushner development, you look at this lawyer who is going to be charged, does it tell you about where this investigation is headed? >> i think what is even more interesting is the indictments from last week against the russians. what you see there is an attempt by mueller to show americans and other foreigners that i've got charges i can bring if i think there is a conspiracy to defraud the united states, to prevent the fcc from doing the -- that's a big deal because at the end of the day, everyone thought there are no real collusion charges to be brought. and this is the example of him saying i can bring collusion charges, and what that does is it pressurizes everybody to start cooperating. you didn't think he had charges to bring, now he does, they might force him to cooperate and work his way up the chain. smart move by the special prosecutor here. >> putting pressure on certain people. jameel, thank you very much. coming up, president trump falsely claiming he's been much tougher on russia than president obama. we're going to break down the facts on that. moments ago, the president apparently firing back against a woman who claims that trump
the shooting in las vegas rapidly rose, white house officials urged president trump to show restraint in his response no, speculative tweets, please, no over-the-top bluster. let me bring in our panel. thank you to all of you for being here. jameel, let me start with you on the president's visit to las vegas. it did have a very different tone than puerto rico. puerto rico was a moment standoffish and that was following a week of tweet storms and sort of insults to the mayor of san juan. what happened? >> i think in las vegas he had different narratives to push than he had in puerto rico. he had a narrative of those killed, but he also had law and order. it fits more with his ethos, that cops are pretty much infallible but also that these
this week president trump attempted to comfort american victims of two very different disasters with mixed results. the president made a trip to hurricane-ravaged puerto rico on tuesday where he told some residents to, quote, have fun and tossed rolls of paper towel into a crowd in san juan. a day later the president struck a more somber tone while meeting with victims and first responders in las vegas. that was apparently due to his staff. it's reported tonight that, quote, as the death toll from the shooting in las vegas rapidly rose, white house officials urged president trump to show restraint in his response no, speculative tweets, please, no over-the-top bluster. let me bring in our panel. thank you to all of you for being here. jameel, let me start with you on
determined that there's probable cause, in other words, a good reason to believe that a crime occurred on facebook. and there's evidence of that crime. and that crime would be a contribution to the election by a foreign individual. so while the president seems very sure that russia had nothing to do with the election, i think, you know, unless he knows something that we don't, i think that the judge who's a neutral third party has a good idea of what's going on. >> let me ask you then, jameel, the president said tonight in his rally, he said he got no help from the russians. is that true? we know they certainly tried and that the assessment from the entire intelligence community, that's the assessment. the president loved touting everything from wikileaks hacks to the campaign trail. is that right? >> no question that the russians tried to influence this election. there's no question that the russians were engaging in larger covert influence operations
>> i'm sorry, don. i was going to say i agree with you. and frankly, speaking as a lawyer, facebook's got very good lawyers and one thing those lawyers are telling facebook is when the justice department looks at there's any liability for facebook, which is something people have been asking me a lot about on twitter and i'll be writing about soon, one of the factors that they're going it look at is how cooperative facebook was, how cooperative they were with the government, how much they came forward. and so not only is there a pr component to it, which i agree is part of it. i also think that part of it is a legal component where being as cooperative as possible with authorities is the best way to ensure as little liability as possible for them. >> jameel, i'll give you the last word. >> well, look, don, i think renato's right. i think it's important the government and facebook work together on this effort. i think facebook's made some good progress in the last few days. what they're going to do with congress to disclose the ads going forward. and so i think there's a real opportunity for the government and industry to work together. a lot of people talked about the
government if congress doesn't provide funds for the border wall. "the washington post" article in question you just heard that one talked about there. it disputed the president's immediate commitment to the wall saying quote the white house has signalled to congressional republicans that it will not shut down the government in october if money isn't appropriated to build a wall along the u.s./mexico border potentially clearing a path for lawmakers to reach a short-term budget deal. passioning the >> passing the budget is only one item on the agenda in september. the nbc first read team laid out the to-do list, including providing hurricane harvey relief money. that's the most important. raising the debt limit by the end of september, keeping the government open. crafting a tax reform bill. and maybe giving health care one more shot in the senate. franco and jameel are still with me. franco, by my measure, that is
john kelly is trying to put a lid on. what do you think about that? >> i think it's time to ask a question about her, what is she doing in the white house at all? what is she accomplishing? what is she doing other than maybe providing sort of a reminder of his television celebrity days or serving as sort of a fire brand for at least the african-americans who certainly disagree with his agenda. i just don't understand exactly what she's doing in the white house. she has no qualifications to be there. she has no experience in government. all she is frankly is a reality star. frankly, her exit would be welcomed, certainly amongst a lot of african-americans in this country that don't particularly care for her. >> jameel, i need you to come out of your shell the next time we have you on the show. thank you for being with us. coming up, one week after harvey first hit, a look at where we've been and the work
between different sides. we all know about the battle over sandy and how some members of congress in texas didn't support it. are we going to see that kind of thing? >> a lot of republicans from the northeast have said that while they remember how badly sandy went in terms of congressional help, they're not going to repeat that. jameel, the first routine added that one at the bottom, which a lot of americans are not thinking about, giving health care one more shot in the senate. they're time limited, so there's something that causes the senate to have to address this by the end of september or they lose their window for doing so and they have to introduce a new bill. do you think president trump will take another kick at it? >> not if he's looking at scoring a pin. that seems to be the priority, make sure if i win something. if he's going the win something, right now keeping the government open at this point is a win. making sure the government pays its bills on time is a win.
