The gun powder or his campaign ads for what he deems or his campaign deems to be serious threats to him. so what are we to make of that? right, exactly. he doesn t deem the mayor as any sort of threat, and he hasn t come after the former president in any way. you know, if he did, if he took a shot, if he made some kind of comment about the indictment, you would maybe see him fire back, but i don t see i don t think he views him in any sort of threatening way. and if anything, he sill views the still views the florida governor as the beggest threat to his campaign. and i think you re going to see him kind of train his fire on the governor there instead of the mayor. neil: yeah. and that s a fluctuating situation there as desantis has lost a little bit of oomph, chris christie s emerged with a bit more. it s always changing. amie, meredith, thank you very much. we ll be updating you on the
People inside the white house, in the campaign to get going, and democrats also want to see him out there. and so you re seeing him really try to go on big fund raising streak, he s hitting the campaign trail, but he s trying to do this rose garden strategy where he ll be kind of above the fray and won t be hitting the campaign trail so hard until the fall fall. neil: you know, i m curious about that strategy, meredith, because jimmy carter had a tabak at the white house, don t join the fray. we know what happened to him in the 1980 re-election campaign. but i m just wondering, part of this rumbling we re hearing about democrats that the president s playing it too safe, and he s not in a position to play it so safe. well, his poll numbers have not been great with. i think the rise of robert, rfk jr and i m not sure how much of that is in part due to familiarity of his last name and just voters desires to see
The most popular guy in general there by a long shot, i think. i think that this candidacy is almost like a vanity candidacy. i don t know what he, what his game is here other than to try to maybe compete for vice president or get his name out there. no one really knows exactly why he s doing this, neil. Meredith, it sometimes is not that subtle. you re getting a number of candidates that are challenging donald trump for the republican nomination and saying what man for woman they don t like and what many have called overreach on the part of government to go after donald trump, particularly the justice department. but they are looking at the charges here in the 37-count indictment and say if some of this is true, you have some explaining to do. what do you make of that? yeah, we are starting to see a shift in how some of donald trump s republican rivals are starting to talk about him. for a while there s been this kind of reluctance to go after trump full throatedly for fear of alienating some of his base and losing the attention of some of those voters. while we have seen some of trump s rivals start to criticize trump, a lot of it has also come with criticism of the justice department and you ve
Incredibly loyal to trump. we ve seen those numbers play out in recent polling, too. neil: it s interesting how that will play out ultimately. meredith, great seeing you again. charlie gasparino has been following this. he s the money guy, the big star of the fox business network. charlie, you ve been getting into the fact that say what you will of donald trump and the charges piling up, the fact of the matter is he s been very effective seeing his poll numbers pick up but campaign contributions pick up. right now in this period, $2 million in the first major fund raiser last night since all of this started what do you make of it? there s nothing better to energize your base than something like this for donald trump. us against them. the biden crime family coming after me and doing to me what they what the justice department wouldn t do to hillary clinton. that is rousing for the base. his campaign contributions reflect that. these are not big ticket people that are giving.
Has topped out already because his positions on the issues are just really out of sync with democratic primary voters who believe it or not overwhelmingly approve of the job joe biden is doing, on covid, on ukraine where rfk is put down his biggest take of difference. sandra: i ll certainly let meredith to respond to that time also the question of whether or not with chris sununu exiting the race it only helps this g.o.p. growing field, it only helps donald trump, do you think that s the case the bigger this field gets, does this only help the former president? that s certainly what the former president and his aides believe, the more the merrier, the more republicans get in, it only seems to be to his benefit to. there is this working assessment that trumps base is around 30 te hard for some of these other republicans to tap into this.
