aren't we? >> that's right, pamela. astronomical winter begins this week, and it is certainly going to feel like it for much of the country, especially over the next week. you're really going to start to see that cold air set in place across the northern plains before spreading elsewhere in the coming days. now, overnight tonight, we really start to sea that surge of cold air. by sunday morning, take a look at this, the feels-like temperature in bismarck minus 13, fargo, minus 23. it's actually going to get even colder than that in the coming days. take fargo, for example, the high temperature on sunday topping out at only 4 degrees. once we get to tuesday, that high temperature will likely only make it to minus 6, when you factor in the wind, that windchill is probably going to feel a lot more like say minus 25 to minus 30 in that early morning hour. but even though it's starting here, you're really going to see a lot of that cold air spread out across much of the eastern half of the country over the next five to seven days.

it. a big mass of cold air is set to push down from canada into the northern portion of the u.s. before spreading into much of the eastern half of the country in the coming days. sunday morning the feels like temperatures across the high plains are going to be bitter cold. minus 13 is what it will feel like in bismarck, minus 23 in fargo. but it's actually expected to get even colder in the coming days. take fargo, for example, the high temperature on sunday only 4 degrees. by the time we get to tuesday, that high temperature doesn't exceed minus 6 and when you factor in the wind, that windchill is more likely to be around the minus 25 range. and, again, these temperatures will continue not only for that area, but begin to spread across much of the country for the rest of the week. in total likely looking at nearly 80% of the u.s. population having temperatures at or below the freezing mark at some point in the next seven days. and while it starts in the northern tier, it will spread even to some southern cities.

New Day With John Berman and Brianna Keilar

how do voters see it, how do americans see it? this is the university of michigan consumer confidence index, 66 in april of 2022, going back since 1978, tied for the lowest, it was 66 in april of 1982, that was a good year for democrats in the house of representatives with the republican president. and i'll just note, if you don't believe that the economy is hurting the democrats and joe biden, look at the net approval rating, approval minus disapproval, joe biden at this point, minus 23 points. that is the worst on record since they started asking about economic job approval ratings back in 1978, with jimmy carter who, of course, ended up the economy and put it to bits. >> harry enten, thank you.
