obviously not a member of the trump administration. he is very close with the president and i think you would be seeing him today at some point as his outside adviser and attorney here. if what is reported is correct, he says it doesn't make any difference because if the president says to somebody else, hey, investigate corruption in your own country that had a bearing on a 2016 election, isn't that what the president is supposed to do? >> if all the president was saying is just investigate corruption as a general matter, that's fine. but i suspect there's going to be a lot of evidence that when the president said that either he was signaling or indicating or people on his behalf were signaling or indicating that he meant something specific, get dirt on biden. that's what the story is and if that's the case that's totally different. >> to bring you up to speed on what is happening at the white house, the meeting was supposed to begin in the oval office about 14 minutes ago. may be running a little bit late. the president is bringing reporters into that. there's often an opportunity to shout questions at the president. he often answers them.

garret haake and kelly o'donell is joining me now. so who's the problem here? who's the president potentially listening to garret? who on capitol hill might have his ear telling him this is not a good deal? >> some of his most conservative allies in the house have been saying they don't think it is a good deal. even among that group they don't see a shutdown, largely his outside adviser who's been leaning on him to reject this deal. the republican senate lunch broke up over last half hour and talking to half a dozen or so republicans. earlier today, we thought the senate may vote on this bill as early as the 2:00 hour. that continues to slide back. there is one group of republican senators who say we have done our jobs, let's vote. another group are still waiting to see if president trump will signal one way or if he's going

hold hearings. they can do all the things the republican led house have not been doing when it comes to the russia investigation. when you talk about the perfect storm, brooke, one of the things is the mueller investigation is not wrapped up or issued a so-called report rudy giuliani is talking about and the president wants to see. one thing this republican congressional aide was saying earlier today, what happens if mueller's team issues the report close to the midterm election, in the weeks before the midterm election and the democrats take control of the house. they have this wealth of information they could use to hold hearings come january, issuing subpoenas and so on. that is a sort of doomsday scenario, a perfect storm scenario that republican sources we are talking to close to the white house and advising the president. one thing we should tell you is, one of the president's political advisers, an outside adviser who talked to the president told my
