putting -- pitting american against american. and it's a huge issue right now. i was ranked the third-most bipartisan member of the democrats in the house of representatives. that's something i'm actually really proud of. i don't think bipartisanship is a dirty word. i think our leaders, and i think the president in particular should effectively swear never to divide the american people. i think if a president should wake up every day and say, what can i do to bring this terribly divided nation back together? i think a president shouldn't act like half of the country is entirely wrong about everything they believe. we know that's not true. i think a president should be intentional about what they do to bring us together. i've called for national service. not mandatory, but an exciting national service program, where young people can serve our country. i think it would be incredibly unifying. i've said in my first 100 days in office what i'm going to advance is an agenda of five or six things that are currently bipartisan in the congress. where good-minded democrats and republicans have found common
existence and it's made people anxious, fearful, at each other's lost to. that's what's been created. now did donald trump create this politics? no. he's partly the product of this. and there's all kinds of trends that we can point to that gave rise to it. but he is, you will recall, the master of whipping up fear, of whipping up our anxieties and pitting american against american and i think history will prove this to be a real tragedy. >> and, david, also the master of sowing doubt and for making the truth something that's very hard to even get to and i think ultimately that has impacts on the foundation of our democracy, but in term of how the democrats respond to this, that's the bigger question because the president's behavior, his actions, the actions, in my

than a tweet. but obviously, i don't think we can separate that president's actions today and actions last week and his basically racist statements he made and you know, just the entire administration, which started with the muslim ban and went through to charlottesville and attacking nfl players through obviously last week. and so i think that the reality is that there has been a consensus. obviously, the parties have not been equal, but there's been some consensus that we cannot just openly flame racial hostilities in our country, there have obviously been dog whistles, et cetera, but that has been broken by a president who feels perfectly comfortable basically pitting american against american. >> yeah, professor peterson, neera puts it very well and very bluntly, because you have the use of what was out-of-bounds,
do you think your companies have? both of these issues, foreign manipulation of platforms but more broadly the fact thatt algorithms designed to attract our attention may have the unintended but real consequence of pitting american against american in a way that the russians so capably manipulated. so if you could each address that question and the second question is, do you have the historic data such that you would be able to analyze the trump campaign advertising and its campaign's organic content with that produced by the russian social media farms and analyze whether in its targeting or audience, there was any sophistication in that overlap.
