you do see women, as you can see, on the streets, you also see that i am dressed in a less conservative fashion than i was before. i want to stress the taliban has passed a ruling that women are supposed to wear not just a full hijab, a full head covering but the piece that completely covers the face, most women wear the burqa. many women in kabul are like thanks but no thanks essentially. they're continuing to dress how they used to dress. it seems for the moment the taliban doesn't have a vested interest in trying to crack down on that and in trying to resurrect the most notorious vice and virtue police as they became known. so there is that sense that perhaps there's a slightly lighter touch than there had been certainly in the 1990s, but i want to stress, john and brianna, that beneath the

people think their money has been emptied from the banks. afghanistan's economy is heavily dependent on cash and this weekend the country's largest money exchange market reopened after a 20—day closure. there are other signs of normality too. a cricket match was held in kabul this week with taliban commanders in the stands. a stark contrast to the last time the taliban were in power and most sports were banned. but the taliban doesn't yet control the whole country. in the panjshir valley, north of kabul, fighting continues. it's the last area holding out against taliban rule and the resistance maintains it won't surrender. at least 15 members of iraq's security forces have been killed in two separate attacks, by suspected islamic state militants. both attacks happened near major cities in the north of the country — a former stronghold of the group. the biggest took place at a police checkpoint in a village near kirkuk — leaving 12 police officers dead.

refugees and obviously damage stan. will it brings me no pleasure to in this the truth is the truth. sometimes it hurts. just because you don't like the taliban doesn't mean that you embrace fully everything we have here in america. you have to be very cautious here because the reality is if you lived your whole life in afghanistan, you may not have the same views that we do about women's equality, about pluralism, about independent judiciary, about jury trials, about free expression, about tolerance, about nonviolence and so you have this open-ended resettlement program for years and years and years the state department would like to continue it. what will that do? how will that change the quality of life that we know and love in america? >> tammy: what we're asking for and what we would like is simply to know what are we doing to ensure that the nature of who it is that is coming here their background and when we are doing
can there be that the taliban will actually do what's needed to avoid another incident like we saw in thursday's bombing? >> well, at the highest levels of the taliban you can expect some cooperation, more than a modicum. i mean, as the administration has said you can't really trust the taliban. the problem with the taliban is that it's not the well oiled, well controlled, discipline machine we think it is. no organization is. and so the people at the top of the taliban food chain can tell us what they want but at the bottom of the food chain there's no way to control people who might do something the taliban doesn't want to do, aaron. >> david, we want to get to you next. you have really been on a roller coaster trying to help an afghan journalist and friend of yours and his family to get out of afghanistan. you both were held captive by the taliban. he helped save your life, guiding you to a military base when you guys escape ed way back
