And scrutinise tonight. but ijust wanted to remind you of some of the contentious claims that have dominated the week so far and why you should be aware of them. this was the most contentious claim from tuesday s debate the prime minister s claim that under labour tax will go up £2,000. that statement, though, is misleading. the 2000 firstly, is over four years. it s about £500 a year. it s also based on political assumptions. some of them are dubious. labour have said they won t put up income tax, national insurance or vat, but labour have a dubious claim of their own. this one that there s a £71 billion gap in the conservative spending plans. the problem is that s based on the assumption that the conservatives will do things that they ve said they won t, like scrapping national insurance in the next few years. so if either of these claims tonight, it is fair to be sceptical. now we don t know for sure what is going to come up this evening, but the cost of living is an issue the parties have been talking about a lot on the campaign trail. we ve all felt the impact of rising prices. but here s a piece of context
