campus. it's not my job. it's your job. >> it's time for the soul of our university to reclaim its integrity. it's time for me and my fellow classmates to stop worries for our lives. >> why today a jewish student is afraid to walk the library? >> i'm very troubled by what you're reporting. it's our top priority to keep our students safe and secure. >> can you tell us why the university did not react like other universities might have or hoped harvard would have? >> respectfully the notion that harvard did not react is not correct. >> anti-semitism last no place as harvard. >> what action has been taken against students harassing and calling for the genocide of jews on campus? >> i can -- >> what action have been taken? i'm not asking -- >> neil: all right. that went well. that are ivy league schools, but these days more like poison ivy league schools. fox on top of university leaders in the hot seat as the house probes rampant anti-semitism on their campuses. did the presidents of harvard university, the university of pennsylvania and massachusetts institute of technology say anything to ease the concerns of jewish students like taliah khan today? the students you just heard from. did some stock traders have advanced knowledge of the october 7th attack and try to cash in on it? we trace the trades and the money. you decide. "your world" starts right now. welcome, everybody. i'm neil cavuto. busy news day for you. let's get to it and to a hamas on the hearing that ended up being a whole lot more about drilling. aishah? >> it was indeed. good afternoon to you, neil. the hearing just wrapped up. at the end of it, none of these presidents of these universities really budged on anything at all. they are standing firm by their actions, defending and supporting freedom of expression, freedom of speech. that includes they protests that we're seeing across the country. they're saying they're going to continue to support that as long as none of this free speech actually crosses in to harmful conduct. take a listen. >> we embrace a commitment to free expression even of views that are objection able, offensive, hateful. >> now, this is essentially what you heard om all of the presidents today. republicans claim schools are regulating speech. just speech that they don't like. >> you cancelled an event with former ice director tom holman due to disruptive student protests simple because he worked for former president donald trump. >> i disagree with the characterization that we treat speech differently. that kind of -- >> you're speaking out of both side of your mouth. >> so republicans and democrats were pretty much on the same page during the entire hearing. the only thing that they disagree on is what is causing the rise in anti-semitism. republicans blame liberal ideologies on these campuses. they say it's being taught on these campuses while house democrats argue anti-semitism has been here and on the rise for quite some time. congress woman jayapal going as far to blame former president trump for what -- some of what we're seeing right now across campuses. >> neil: amazing. thanks, aishah. let's go to taliah khan there. you saw her in some of those sound bites. an mit israel alliance president and very smart woman and very direct. you were making it clear long before this hearing how you felt. you send that message loud and clear. you think you got any people saying she's on to something here? >> well, thank you for having me on. thanks for your kind words. i'm so glad that we had this hearing today. it showed the entire world what students have been saying for the past two months. that all we get is lip service. we get things like oh, free speech extend to this hate speech, even to these violent chants for globalization of a tafada. that was mass killings of innocent israelis. i think what the reporter just spoke about is really poignant. during covid, one of the c catholic chaplains at mit was forced to step down. now we have an interfaith chaplain that interrupted an event four times making jewish students and nonjewish students feel so uncomfortable because she said, you know, israel is oppressive colonial apartheid state committing genocide. she made jewish students to raise their hand to get a kosher meal. it went individually to all of these students. we had an indigenous student e-mail to say they as a nonjew felt uncomfortable. when we reported this, we were told this didn't qualify as harassment and nothing has been done to this person. it's only free speech for thee and not for me. >> neil: this has been going on awhile and i talked to other students, not quite as eloquent as you, saying this undercurrent of anti-semitism, we didn't realize it was rampant and so personal until the october 7th attacks and israel's response. you go to one of the most prestigious schools in the world. one of the hardest to get in to in the world. do you feel out of place now? what do you do? >> this is something that i said this morning the press conference. i reiterated it in testimony that i gave to congress woman fox who was kind enough to repeat this in front of the presidents today at the end of the hearing in her closing remarks. i want to be a student. i didn't come to mit to be some sort of jewish advocate or, you know, to be on the news. i would prefer not to be on the news all time. not to have to be fighting every day for jewish student safety. the presidents are not doing their jobs. it's very clear from the testimony today they're just -- it's all lip service. they're saying oh, we need more education. we need everybody to be against hate together. they're not doing any concrete actions that are making jewish students feel safe. even sally conbluff said incidents at mit are unreshe dented. they're ten times higher than incidences of islamophobia. she's never seen anything like this. these stories have taken her breath away. she knows what's going on and still has not been able to do anything. >> you know, you go also not only to one of the best schools in the country, in the world but one of the most expensive. some of the schools that were represented today are fairly pricy. we're looking at room and board, north of 82,000. i hope you don't pay full freight. you probably have a scholarship. are you surprised that schools this smart that they could be this dumb? >> honestly, it's unfortunately not surprising to me. anti-semitism has become normalized among liberal universities, among the liberal elite. it's very unfortunate to see this normalization of anti-semitism. we see it with the students, the faculty and the dei officers and among the staff. you know, we even had faculty when students expressed their concern about feeling unsafe at mit, they said okay, if you feel so safe, go back to israel. that's ridiculous. it just not okay at all what is happening at mit. >> neil: what are you studying? i'm doing a ph.d. in mechanical engineering. i'm on a dod fellowship. >> neil: after hearing you today, many people might be knocking on your door to see your interest in politics. thanks. very good talking to you. >> thank you so much. >> neil: all right. meantime some startling revelations concerning the october 7th attack. we explore andexplain after this. struggling with the highs and lows of bipolar 1? (car engine revs) (engine accelerating) (texting clicks) (tires squeal) (glass shattering) (loose gravel clanking) >> neil: could it be haas traders knew in advance of the october 7th attacks that were coming on israel and decided to short some stocks particularly very well-played and widely bought israeli stocks, short them in the hope of making a huge pro fit that they would tumble, which is what happens when you short a stock tied to that event? some are dismissing it. we'll get into that in a second. the two study author's say there was unusual trading going on in the period of september 15th when all of this trading supposedly started up until october 5, about the thursday before the attacks that we would see that saturday. more on that in a second to greg palkot on all the busy developments since. greg? >> hi, neil. yeah, let's get you up to date on the the war here. we're at a staging area from the israeli defense forces. we're looking at artillery, jets in the sky, armored personnel carriers shuttling forces back and forth to the action. the attention is on the southern part of gaza. that is where it is believed the leadership of hamas is hiding out. real military says that gaza is seeing the most intense air strikes of the entire war and most significant, the intense ground combat. critical remaining areas also targeted in the northern part of gaza. israel now saying that according to sources that 15,000 have been killed since the start of fighting, but they say of that 15,000, 5,000 have been hamas fighters. now to the study by new york area law professors. they say they found unusual trading in the israeli stocks in the run up to the terrorist attack. they said traders with inside information linked to hamas could have acted on that and shorted stocks about to fall citing activity in major shares incl including israeli banks. it must with said, neil, the reuter's news agency quoting authorities at the stocks exchange and stock regulators have knocked down the stocks. the studies authorities stick to their guns as the folks here on the ground try to undue a terrible attack back in early october that took at least a lot of people by surprise. back to you. >> neil: greg, one of the things the study points out, there was unusual trading. critics said it was against stocks being placed that large. that the author's claims it was millions of dollars. they claimed 900 million. now a possibility that they just did not understand the relationship. having said all of that, it does come at a time when israeli officials a little more than a week ago had to deal with this "new york times" report that they knew well in advance that the attack was in the offing. they missed it. we missed 9-11 as well in this country. easy to play monday morning quarterback, but this gets back to whether hamas could have indeed profited off of this or traders working with hamas did. that hasn't been ruled in or out. i'm wondering, i must make some israelis nervous. >> well, certainly, neil, their assertion is made that people did know before, various intelligence sources, warning the israeli government, prime minister netanyahu that this was in fact going to be happening. so words, speculation, worry about it, concerns about hamas actually doing something horrendous cross border from gaza over israel was out there leading to the speculation that some others on the other side could have acted on it. still to be sorted out. >> neil: thanks, greg. when you're shorting stocks, you're anticipating that they're going to go down and you're going to make a lot of money making that bet. the largest israeli back was the target of that. from the authors of this study and they have gotten a lot of criticism from the israeli government. we've seen no shorting of this israeli companies, we do identify a sharp and unusual increase just before the attacks in trades and risky short dated options in these companies expiring just after the attacks. the governor and the exchanges saying there's no there-there. charlie gasparino with us from fox business. charlie, this is not the first time we have talked about unusual activity in a market ahead of an event. 9-11 comes to mind before the assassination of john f. kennedy where minutes that we got word of his death, the market was freaking out. there's been periods. i'm wondering here where you think this goes. >> i covered in 9-11 stuff. it looked bad. mainly a sell off in treasuries that took a hit when 9-11 happened. the government couldn't put it together. the notion that osama bin laden was in hid cave shorting treasuries was just a bridge too far. this one is a little different in the sense that -- i spoke with the authors just so you know. they make the point about the trading of the options was very unusual. that it spiked dramatically right before the hamas attack. you know, this is like a hard thing to prove. they will even admit that they haven't proved anything. they have showed a confluence of things going on at the same time. there could be a lot of reasons why these etfs, particularly that's what they were focusing on had a surge in activities. maybe somebody read something off of a message board. this was floating around. the question is, is any of this illegal? probably not. that's number 1. number 2, did someone profit off of this horrible catastrophe? it's largely impossible to prove. my guess is that there's some counter veiling reason why this happened. listen, we're always on the look at conspiracies. we're in a conspiratorial age here. some israeli reps have options activities and people look at hamas and the hamas attacks and say bingo. >> and put something together later. you're right about this. you're so smart on this. but you can use the funds to buy stuff here and maybe altered stuff. the studies don't indicate anything was wildly out of order at the time that this was happening from september 15 to october 5. the markets in general, not just in israel, were getting hit around that time. financial -- the dow, the nasdaq and s&p down. financial issues were falling 10%. that's long before the attacks. having said that, they always can find unusual trading at any time to pair with a big event. i'm wondering here, would authorities now in israel already-embarrassed, it's easy to play monday morning quarterback here by these reports that the government was warned of a hamas attack by this, pounce on something like this and say that did not happen? >> my guess is that they have a lot bigger fish to fry right now. worrying about -- think of it this way. i have nothing against the authors. joshua is a smart guy. i spoke with him. he has some political biases here in my view. his whole thesis here is that the trading occurred in what is known as off exchange funds pools of liquidity known as dark pools where you can match buyers and sellers or do short trades outside the new york stock exchange, the nasdaq. totally legal. he's against that. part of this is fitting with his entire sort of theory about the markets that we should get rid of dark pools. >> neil: and you're brilliant at this. dark pools involved dark characters again now identifying. a lot of exchanges have a way too make sure that you can identify them. >> dark pools are not mysterious at all. you can match buyers and sellers off of the new york stock exchange and the nasdaq. they didn't want any competition from any other exchange. there's some controversy surrounding them. joshua talks about that. but my bigger point is think about it this way. if you knew this was happening and you wanted a short to stock, wouldn't you have done a lot more? it seems like it's so trifling compared to what went on. if you really wanted to capitalize, there's got to be a way to make more money than trading some options away from the major stock exchange. >> neil: the only other argument to that, letting people hear both sides, by making a lot of money, you would draw more attention -- >> but making a little money. >> it wasn't 900 million, might be as low as 90 million. but we don't know. they're tearing this apart. >> do these guys really care? if the terrorists are doing this, do they really care about making a lot of money? >> neil: i don't think it's the terrorists per se but people making coin off of what happened. thanks, charlie. i did want you to hear that. you heard about this report. we want to sort out those that believe it and think they have the data to prove it. it wouldn't be the first time we've seen unusual trading data before a big event. so in the eye of the beholder. we report it, you decide. we'll continue reporting on this. more investigations on fox business. revelations at the border. this time in arizona side of it. bill melugin is in lukeville, arizona. bill?
