i hear the numbers are about pretty high. about 70,000 americans globally -- >> i think 300,000. >> in the u.s.? >> world wide. >> about 70,000 across the u.s. who have no idea that they have been, for lack of a better description, riding on the coat tails of the protection of the fbi and the fbi has said we've tried to find you. we've tried to let you know. we've tried to send you messages. if you don't help yourself, i'm not going to be there after monday. is that how this worked? >> yeah. typically the average user doesn't know about the settings. they are pretty much given to you by your internet service provider. people don't look there so they don't know what's happening. when they go the www.bankofamerica.com, if they have this malware, it could redirect them somewhere else. the criminals could capture it. that's how it worked before until the fbi took down this group and set up the server that allows, if people are inif he canned with this malware, it will temporarily work. they didn't want to take the servers down because it could interrupt people's internet experience. >> just quickly. we have the president who is at a live event and we've been losing time on that. you say the address again on where you can go to fix this problem. >> www.dcwg.org. i highly recommend four things. run anti-virus software and keep it up to date. updating your operating system and use a pool like personal software inspector and google internet security training. >> thank you. sorry i had to cut it short. thanks so much. >> thank you. dismal jobs report sparking a friday sparring match between president obama and mitt romney. mitt romney charging to the cameras within minutes after the labor department reported 80,000 new jobs last month. it took his 90 minutes to get out this response. it's important. the rate of unemployment is unchanged at 8.2%. first governor romney. >> we have seen the jobs report this morning, and it's another kick in the gut to middle class families. it's consistent with what i've heard as i've gone across the country and met with families in their homes, cafes and restaurants and break rooms. these numbers understate what people are feeling and the amount of pain that's occurring in middle class america. >> we tried it the decade before i took office. let's look at what happened. we saw us fighting two wars on a credit card. the tax cuts turned a surplus into a deficit, and the lack of regulation resulted what happened on wall street and we ended up with the biggest crisis that we've ever seen. >> that ain't right. >> it ain't right. it's not a smart theory. >> all right. that's the politics of it all. i'll remind you once again, we are four months to the day, to the presidential election. let's take a closer look at who has the jobs, who doesn't have the jobs, where the jobs are being created and everything else. for that poppy harlow. >> this committee aeconomy adde jobs. it's less than expected. we need to be creating somewhere between 300 and 400,000 jobs a month to bring this rate down. that's not happening at all. some important numbers to show you. 12.7 million. that's the number of americans that are out of work. they are unemployed. 5.4 million of them have been out of work for six months or longer. the longer you're out of work, the harder to find a job. that's almost 42% of the unemployed. another key number i like to hit home, it's not just about 8.2% unemployment, it's about these people, the two and a half million americans that are able to work that have given up looking for a job. these people are not counted in the overall unemployment rate. they are not counted at all. that's very important. one of the biggest take aways from this job report is minorities and what's happening to minorities in this country when it comes to jobs. 14.4%. that's the percent of african-americans unemployed. it's nearly double the number of whites. that number has gone up from the previous month. hispani hispanics, 11% unemployment. finally, this is political. after this jobs report we only have four more jobs reports until the election. take a look, big picture here. we'll hear a lot of talk about this. this economy was bleeding jobs at the end of the bush administration. end of 2010. this is when you see consiste y consistency. that's what the president calls. this high point is january. past three months not good. april, may, june, you have anemic jobs growth. big picture for you here. bottom line, a disappointing jobs report overall. >> all right. thank you so much for that. speaking of jobs and what poppy was just speaking of, a city in pennsylvania has a big jobs problem on their hands. they are so broke that every single city worker's pay has been slashed to minimum wage regardless of what they make. regardless of what they do. almost 400 people who are employees in scranton, pennsylvania today and that pay was cut to $7.25. we're talking about fire, police, public workers and they cut their pay even though a judge took them to task and said they couldn't do it. immaterial to bri i want to bring in tom jennings. he represents three of the unions. i'm glad you were able to join me. you are fresh out of a meeting with the judge. hold up did things turn out when you took this issue to the judge today? >> well, our meeting today with the judge was a hearing for a preliminary injunction. that was t make the injunction issued yesterday permanent. we were very successful. the judge entered exactly the injunction that we requested. an hourly later the mayor violated it by issuing checks for $7.25. on monday we'll be in court on pursuing contempt moments against the mayor and the city of scranton. >> i'm sure there are people that say this is a bit of a sign of the times. unions have had a pretty good run up and some cities have gone bust. stockton went bankrupt saying it's because of unions and pensions. the city and the mayor say they got 5,000 bucks left. that's it. $5,000 left in the treasury after issuing the checks today at that meager rate of $7.25. what more could you expect if the money's not there? >> well, that's not the facts of this case. i don't know what's happening in california. in this case, it was stipulated in court today that the reason the city doesn't have any money is that the mayor and the city council are currently involved in a war over how to finance the city's needs. the money is available. the problem is that city council and the mayor have to agree on the terms of the financing. this is a political squabble. this is nothing to do with running out of money or going bankrupt. the moment the two of them can play nice, employees can be paid properly. >> it stems from property taxes because they are proposing a 78% increase in the property taxes of the people of scranton in order to be able to pay the bills. if i lived there and someone wanted to say 78% increase or you don't get fire coverage or police coverage, i would be pretty mad. i might support the city and say we got to slash the costs and expenses. we can't afford to live like there anymore. >> you'd be pretty mad until you realize they can still pay the lowest taxes of any major municipality and for ten years no one raised the taxes. >> what's the action? i'm not suggesting for a moment that you know what union action is, are they going to take action? >> without a question they're going to take question. >> other than legal action? will there be striking or anything like that? >> no. these are professionals. the police will continue to fight crime and the fire will continue to fight fires. these are professional employees. what they will do is following the law and hoping the city does the same thing? >> tom jennings it's good of you to join us. i'd like to follow the story and find out how this legal battle resumes on monday. thanks for being with us. >> thank you. now to a story that is more than likely to enrage many of you. someone is doing the unthinkable in philadelphia. they are lighting dogs and cats on fire. there's no other way to couch this. this is one of those stories with victims that are helpless and one of the victim s a 4-month-old puppy. killing them in some senses and also rernding them in so much pain they have had to go through surgeries. coming up, we'll tell you what the city is trying to do to track down the personal responsible, if there's more than one and find out why on earth anyone would do anything like this. ( whirring and crackling sounds ) man: assembly lines that fix themselves. the most innovative companies are doing things they never could before, by building on the cisco intelligent network. his morning starts with arthritis pain. and two pills. afternoon's overhaul starts with more pain. more pills. triple checking hydraulics. the evening brings more pain. so, back to more pills. almost done, when... hang on. stan's doctor recommended aleve. it can keep pain away all day with fewer pills than tylenol. this is rudy. who switched to aleve. and two pills for a day free of pain. ♪ [ female announcer ] and try aleve for relief from tough headaches. i tell mike what i can spend. i do my best to make that work. we're driving safely. and sue saved money on brakes. now that's personal pricing. we have a very sad and sick story to tell you about pets burned on purpose and left to die. several have been found around philadelphia in just the past few weeks. i have to warn you that what you're about to see is quite graphic. he was found yesterday. he's just a puppy the four months old. severely burned on his back, leg. he is expected to be okay. he's going to make it but some of the dogs found not as lucky. the next dog, i do want to warn you in is a graphic picture. more graphic than the last picture. chloe was found with severe burns all over her body about two weeks ago. we had to blur out the worst parts because this is a horrible attack. she didn't make it. she died because of the attack and the injuries sha the sustain frd that attack. mark joins me now and heads the pennsylvania society for the prevention of cruelty to animals. it's unbelievable to see a story like this. do you have any idea at this point who might be responsible or if it is related, if these attacks against the dogs have been related. >> we're really early in the investigation process. we are not ruling that they can be linked within they're within about a mile from each other. we're in the early stages of investigating. >> are the police helping? >> they are. the police are participating. the pennsylvania spca is at the forefront. >> about that investigation, are you able to find any surveillance video in the area where the dogs have been found. is everybody being helpful in turns of turning over their business or surveillance video in the area? >> at this time we're trying to locate who the owner of the animal is. the puppy was owned. we have the good samaritan that brought the person in. at this time there's nothing like that that exists. >> one of the other dogs was a yorkie and it was as fixuated and set on fire. it was reported as a trash fire. did that dog survive? >> that dog did not survive. >> it's unbelievable. it's a strange string of events. have you seen anything like this in your city or anybody else's jurisdictions? >> from time to time. we've seen it. it's becoming a very disturbing trend this year and in the past two months we've seen it a lot. with chloe and hercules. it's becoming alarming at the higher rates. we're trying to get out into the community and hopefully make people aware this is going on and these people are in your community. organizations like ours need help with information. we're a 501c3 nonprofit so everything is based on donations. we need the community's help in trying to find out who is behind these so we can prosecute. >> do you know of any trends in crimes? could it be gang related? do you think it's more along the lone wolf perpetrator? >> right now i can't speculate. in the past we've had things from disputes in a marriage, domestic disputes to someone who owed someone money. there's numerous reasons this happens. i can't speculate as to why this current situation happened. >> how is hercules, the little puppy? how is he doing? >> that's the good news. he's a fighter. even going through everything he went through, he was there waiting to be petted and wanted love from us. prognosis looks good. >> i know people can find you online. i'm sure you're in need of people not only to give but to adopt and be good parents to these dogs and cats and animals. thanks. i appreciate it and good luck. i hope you find whoever is responsible for this. >> my pleasure. thank you for your time. my next guest admits he did it. he beat up a priest. he says that priest molested him and molested his brother when they were just children, ages five and seven. a jury says william lynch is not guilty of anything. was justice served in this case? and the first trade route to the west. we built the tallest skyscrapers, the greatest empires. we pushed the country forward. then, some said, we lost our edge. we couldn't match the pace of the new business world. well today, there's a new new york state. one that's working to attract businesses and create jobs. build energy highways and high-tech centers. nurture start-ups and small businesses. reduce tax burdens and provide the lowest middle class tax rate in 58 years. once again, new york state is a place where innovation meets determination and where businesses lead the world. the new new york works for business. find out how it can work for yours at thenewny.com. lynch today jurors that the priest had raped him and raped his brother as well when they were just seven and five years old. lynch said he went to demand the priest sign a confession and then punched him from an ir rational fear triggered by memories of the abuse. the jury, for their part, failed to reach a verdict on the assault charge. >> this case is about mr. lynch and revenge outside of the law. mr. lynch drove 50 miles, used a fake name, put on gloves and beat up and bloodied an elderly man. >> that was how the prosecutor saw it. the jury did not agree, so to speak. the retired priest got on the stand and he denied that the abuse ever happened. then in a very strange twist just two days into his testimony his attorney stood up and said he will not testify y longer invoking the fifth amendment right to self-incrimination. william lynch joins me live from san francisco. one of his attorneys is live on the phone. were you expecting to get the result that you got? there were three charges. one was, they were hung and the other three they said they didn't agree. >> it was unexpected. from the beginning i knew i was going to come forward and tell the story and take responsibility for what i had done unlike the church and father. i did expect to go to jail. >> i think a lot of people would be asking the question, if that priest did what you say he did, why on earth isn't he in jail? why aren't there criminal charges against him? what's the answer? >> the answer is the sta constitute statute of limitations. the current law prevents anybody from having a voice and being empowered. we want to be able to seek justice any way we can. i think the jury made a decision in the face of a system that's failing the people and it's failing to protect children. that's the whole reason i acted and did what i did. >> tell me a bit about what you did. i heard the prosecutor say you drove 50 miles and let him have it. is it more to it than that? >> there's more to it. my time is a frozen moment in time. my growth has been stunted on many levels over that. he's always had a hold over me. he haunts me in any nightmares. i finally got the courage to do that. i always had a fear doing it. >> are you concerned that this message that the jury sent while clearly good for you cause you're not going to have to face the music for it might inspire vigilante justice among others. that could lead to something far more serious than a bruise or a broken nose or some kind of superficial injury? it could lead to something more serious. >> i could see the potential in that. i encourage people to not do wha i did. i think the jury made a decision that reflects the consciousness of society. i would love to talk to them and encourage them to talk me. i'd like to find out what they were thinking. i think they're sending message. people are tiered of what's happening. the main issue that needs to be resolved is the statute of limitations. >> i think you make a good point. there's been a lot of outcry about how short that statute is given the fact that the victims in these cases are kids who don't even know often times that's what's happening is wrong and much later and outside the statute. let me ask your attorney, in cases like this and your client just mentioned the sandusky case. do you think this was case of jury nullification and for our audience who might not know what that is, that's a situation where a jury really truly believes there was an infraction but can't find it in their hearts to say guilty. >> part of it was definitely jury nullification. there were four counts. three were not guilty. the simple assault is what he admitted he is. he admitted he did that. the jury said we don't care. we think what he did, he did for a reason. we think this priest is, he's one of the worst of the worst. he's not just somebody that raped low pressurape ed will and his brother. this is a man that the church has paid out 12 victims and there's 20 more that are out there that claiming he's raped and sod miezed them. the jury got to hear a bit of that. they got a sense of what kind of a person this was. that's why you did see the jury nullification. >> i do need to add there's been no criminal charges and he's never been convicted of the accusations you make. those are strictly allegations. i must absolutely enforce that what you're saying are allegations. despite the civil lawsuit that your client revailed and he was awarded $625,000 and his brother as well. when the priest was on the stand and talked and talked until he stopped talking and invoked his fifth rights, was there anything that he said that could lead to perjury charges. could he end back in court and be charged criminally in. >> absolutely. at the very end of his testimony, he was asked did you molest will lynch? he said no. he said did you molest his brother? he said no. the district attorney had already in her opening statement told the jury that, in fact, they knew he molested them and he would lie about it. sure enough he got on the stand and lied about it. as soon as he answered the questions, it was the very next day that his attorney said we're not going forward. his attorney knew what happened. he committed perjury and the da told the jury the rule of law must be followfollowed, in all it must be followed. a crime was committed in that courtroom. they saw it and we want to see the rule of law followed. >> i have to reiterate despite the fact that you make this claim there was perjury committed, we don't have any proof there was a crime committed because there was never a charge of crime due to the statute of limitations. i will be fascinated to see what happens going forward and if the prosecutor purpose sues a perjury case. i do appreciate the both you have. >> thanks for having me. >> i hope we can continue talking to you. we got a stunning blow to syrian president. one of his top generals, he's out of there. he has defected. doesn't get any worse than that for a president. could bit a domino effect? will more walk? the story is next. ask me. [ male announcer ] even if you think you can live with your old mattress why not talk to one of the six million people who've switched to the most highly recommended bed in america? it's not a sealy, a simmo
