you have the new york state attorney general dish james with a very complex civil case about trump over valuing and under evaluating properties and assets for his own advantage allegedly. you have all of these things with the january 6th case, the georgia case, the voting case which is part of the special prosecutor brief. that is a lot to manage and schedule. so, the question, is which one of these cases is going to assume -- which of these judges will become the driver? there is a good likelihood, because this is a mandatory arraignment, that it may be this, case it may be judge cannon. then, it is a question of who is going to set that aggressive schedule. as you have already framed, there is also -- codefendant which has other dynamics. >> alyssa, giving him knowledge of the former president, what you saw today in him, and also what today things, what does
overwhelming majority of voices out there at this point in time, and we will see how it plays out, but last night, chris christie was not here singing from that hymn book, and as i pointed out, senator cornyn, and senator thune, and i imagine there a whole caucus of senators who are going to be speaking up soon, and i imagine, senator mcconnell, and some like j.d. vance who is coming out to do what alyssa alluded to, but a good number of republican members in the senate and the house who probably are just keeping powder dry at this point in time, and when are they going to do it is the question. you should challenge this and say, you should be able to say, this is looking bad facially, and let the system play out, and we will see what it is said, and not be called a rino and unpatriotic for saying so. >> this is a precedent now, and now every president is going to be going after the president
when he holds these kinds of press conferences to get the support, to have the people in the crowd cheering for him. but again, this is a shift that we're about to see really take place here, which is them moving on from that court appearance. we saw this after manhattan as well, the indictment there, and putting this all into the political spectrum. he is expected to continue his entire campaign schedule. there are events already on the calendar, and i'm told they're not going away, and i'm told by people around him, that he is defiant. now, the one thing i will say is that there are still trump allies out there who believe that this is really damning, and they are very concerned about this and his lelectability in 2024. >> kristen holmes, appreciate it. back with the panel here in new york. alyssa, i mean, of course that's what he's going to say, of course that's what he's going to do. why would he do anything differently. >> do expect him to be defiant tonight. folks around trump are trying to keep him focused on the campaign, and they're scheduling a lot of events ahead. listen, i think they do
marching with a message for the president. [crowd] donald trump has got to go, hey, hey! [alyssa] i think the women's march was such a coming together of the sisterhood in a way that i don't think we'd ever really seen. [rita] the event was called in part because of concern among women about the possible erosion of rights they've spent generations working to achieve. [leslie] there was energy, there was activism. there was passion. but how do you move from being a moment to an effective movement? what are the concrete changes that we want to enact? one of hollywood's biggest names, producer and studio executive harvey weinstein, is taking a leave of absence from his company. in 2017, stories began to be published in the new york times and in the new yorker about harvey weinstein and his decades of sexual assault and misconduct. [elaine] the sexual harassment allegations against harvey weinstein stretch back 30 years,
not by choice. >> well, his best legal defense may ultimately be winning the presidency. he has no reason to get out of the race. on your point, alyssa, i think the one area where he could potentially be vulnerable is just whether you're convicted or not, whether you're guilty or not, just the idea that you jeopardized national security, you jeopardized military personnel, you jeopardized our national secrets, that to me makes you a little bit vulnerable because you want to make arguments against democrats that they don't take our national security seriously, they are not the right party for this, but it's a hard argument to make when you've got your own obvious problems to deal with on that front. if i were attacking it like chris christie tonight i might be going right at the national security argument, the commander in chief ultimately has to be responsible for this information and we've accused the democrats and you accused hillary clinton of not being responsible in 2016. how can you now have that position? >> right, waving around documents, lay it out, waving around bragging national
they are trying to beef up their florida-based legal team. it is unclear who they're reaching out to, but we do know that they have made several reach outs to law firm trying to gauge interest. again, they are trying to beef out that team after two of his top attorneys resigned. >> all right. thank you so much, kristen in bedminster. panel of experts back with me. can we just start, alyssa, he is continuing with his campaign schedule. not just figuratively, he's literally going to fly back after being indicted, which is really a federal indictment, one of the most serious things that can happen to a person in this country and go straight to a fundraiser. >> i think we will hear fiery remarks from him at that speech. the last indictment showed us he will see a bump in the polls following this because his pace is so aligned with him but i want to say something. it is not just because of some magic of donald trump that even when he's twice indicted he gets a bump in the polls, it is the dereliction of the other republicans in the field who will not challenge the fact that
case like this? can donald trump say i can't be here on that court date, i've got a rally in some place? >> certainly. we've already seen that, to some degree, with judge marchand in the manhattan district attorney's case. he was very clear when he was setting the pretrial schedule, but he was going to do everything he could to not only minimize the imposition to donald trump, he's going to be allowed to campaign. he just can't talk on the campaign trail about what's evidence has been introduced here. he knows about, as a criminal defendant. so, we're already seeing in some of these cases, efforts to accommodate the fact that we are in the unprecedented situation of having a presidential candidate facing unprecedented legal exposure. >> alyssa, good to see you as always. we, of course, had looked to you to talk to the supreme courses that came down this. week i'm hoping we will get back to that, because they are really, really crucial, especially as it relates to voting rights. we appreciate your time. melissa murray is a law professor and why you and msnbc legal analyst. back in 2016, donald trump

sorry, major candidate in the republican race, but i'm throwing back to you. >> yeah, with me here in new york are cnn political commentators from across the spectrum. alyssa, you know, to abby's point, went as far as he's willing to go on trump. he went farther today than he has in the past, when he announced, and tonight, but he wouldn't answer dana's questions about a pardon, or a number of other things. >> pence had some strong moments tonight. he had a line where he said that was a direct shot at trump, he said, i know the difference between a genius and a war criminal, taking him on for refusing to call putin a war criminal. he talked about meeting with vladimir putin, i was there when he did and directly confronting him about election interference, but the problem was trump loomed large over the entire night. it was hard to look at what a future looking mike pence presidency would look like, because it kept coming back to, rightly so, january 6th,
stands on its own. i think the best illustration but that is mike pence's own case. the recent mike pence is not being charged even though he did across about documents is that he had no knowledge and no criminal intent. if that is different with donald trump, then we are going to see a different outcome. get ready for the talking points as we go through the campaign. i don't think they hold up as a matter of law. >> alyssa, do you think that is going to be -- >> i think scott jennings said this earlier. i think the most revealing part of the town hall is that he wants the biggest applause line was him saying that no one is about the law but then back peddling and suggesting that there is a two senior system of justice that joe -- this is what was so problematic. if i were still briefing vice president pence, i would tell him that we don't know the facts of the indictment yet if we will come down. we don't know what it might entail, if it might be under the espionage act. to jump to the conclusion that we will defend them in advance is also narrowing your own plan to get a nomination, you have to beat donald trump.
