and there's a jubilant atmosphere here. but it has been hard—won. it has taken more than a decade for tourist numbers to recover from the devastation of hurricane katrina in 2005. music has helped the city get its mojo back, and festivals like this are busier than ever. i feel lucky to have a ringside view. when he point that camera to you, i want you to shake your booty like your mama gave it to you. crowd cheers. we are going to send this back to london and let them know how we do it in new orleans, all right? zydeco music plays. and then after my frankly disastrous ten minute lesson, this happens. slower zydeco music plays.

nashville. the national weather service reports that 17 inches of rainfall took place yesterday in the city of mckuhn, and that is expected to set a new one-day record for rainfall in that state. the tennessee national guard deployed a black hawk helicopter to help with water rescues. officials say at least five of the missing people are children. the county sheriff says he lost one of his closest friends. >> they just went and got one of my best friends. recovered him. when he was -- he drowned in this. and it's -- sitting here thinking about that, yeah, it's tough. but we're going to move forward. it's the hard part. the small towns, small community, we know each other. we love each other. and i've always said one of our biggest assets in this county is one bad things happen, our people -- when rubber meets the road, our people are going to come out, and they're out. >> maggie from our affiliate wzt

through the city. they're frightened about going through taliban check points. they don't trust the government when they say we'll do everything possible to get you out because of what they're seeing unfold on the ground. i think this is one of situations where time will tell, but time is something people on the ground just don't have. >> what's our sense of what we can expect from the taliban now? they've been trying to convince the world they are the kinder, jeptler taliban and they're going to respect womens rights, they're going to have a different kind of relationship with the international community. they claim to be ready to govern now. we know that one of the taliban's cofounders has come to afghanistan presumably to talk about the formation of a government. but i don't buy it. i mean it seems like the taliban are what we're going to have to deal with going forward, but what are you expecting from them in the weeks to come? >> i mean, if there's a face eating leopard that eats faces for 20 years and goes i'm going to stop eating faces would you

you where we are near the skyscrapers in lower manhattan. i'll try out the remote control. something called an aqua fence on some of the buildings. you'll see this blue fence surrounds the building, surrounds the drugstore, surrounds the starbucks. it's meant to keep water out in case the east river did overflow its banks into lower manhattan. however, that's not hang. there's no sense that's going to happen. this does seem like the city has been spared by the tropical storm. that said, though, there is a flood advisory issued by the national weather service, specifically for brooklyn and queens for the next couple hours because of a heavy rain band you can see from the roof cam is having a real impact on the city. i was thinking as i was about to talk with you, chris, i'm glad i fixed the gutters on my house in new jersey last night. there is a real flooding story in new jersey. the national weather service says flooding is on going

these storms can pack a wallop. they could be with us for quite a while. that's our concern right now. >> new york reporting about 2,000 out of power, most of them in and around the city. do you have any developing understanding of that or is it too soon? >> it's a little too soon. again, this storm is continuing to develop here. we haven't seen significant outages yet, but the concern is now with the amount of rainfall happening and the combination of the wind, we could see those outages increase. >> particularly on the east end, you have a lot of new residents on the east end since covid who haven't experienced storms like super storm sandy. we're really encouraging people, this is a sunday. it's a family day. spend time indoors. let the first responders be out there doing their jobs so we can get through this storm. hopefully at the end of the day, it will be less than predicted. >> certainly every community is

days of big-time humidity and heat. that can be insufferable, especially for the vulnerable and the elderly. no air conditioning, inside, not being able to get help, not being able to contact. bad things can happen. so we have to watch that, even though it's not the drama of a hurricane, it is part of managing the health consequences of this. so, if we're going to get lucky here, and we'll see. if by the middle of the afternoon the sustained rain, the sustained low winds even, by hurricane standards, haven't taken out power in big pockets of long island, the story has to move on from there. it takes us into new england. you heard about rhode island. you're hearing about connecticut. also boston, we have a correspondent there. what's going on in boston? >> chris, as you mentioned, the preparation is the big story here in boston. about 40 minutes ago we had high tide at the long wharf. this is one of the parts of boston, if henri is going to do anything to this city, it's

this latest lockdown which is in force until the 2nd of september. but may go longer, as cases of the delta variant spread in melbourne and in sydney. where, as you mention, the city had its highest case toll, again. but interestingly, michael, scott morrison, the prime minister of australia, wrote an op-ed today seeking to shift the focus. scott morrison says it's not case numbers that we should be looking at -- at anymore. instead, it's hospitalizations. let me read to you a little bit from that op-ed where scott morrison, the prime minister of australia, says shifting our focus from not just case numbers to actually looking at how many people are becoming seriously ill and requiring hospitalization is increasingly what matters. after all, this is how we manage other infectious diseases. now, scott morrison might want to be able to treat coronavirus like the flu. but unfortunately for australia, the vaccination program has just been too slow.

kabul. you have these gates. you've seen the video of the chaos outside of this airport. the taliban just feet away from american troops pushing people back, setting up check points across the city, and now there are very, very serious intelligence reports indicating that isis could target u.s. citizens who are trying to make their way to the airport so you have this very difficult situation and the taliban took over the entire country and got weaponry, machinery and more man power by freeing their fighters from prisons across the country and now there are american soldiers on the ground once again, trying to ensure that american citizens and these afghans can get to safety. and it really appears like a recipe for disaster because you have weaponry that the taliban you now controls. you have not only taliban fighters but also members of al-qaida who are freed from

the airport. i have been talking to a number ofve families on the ground, so have been given vague instructions to make their way to the airport and try to flag down and soldier, and try to ge attention withto documents. many tried for hours on end, overnight, with children in toe, and couldn't get to the airport. the constant question the white house is seeing, why more plans were not put in place. what else can be done just from theon airports to get people inside has forced them to take on some newth steps and figure t what they can do. but that situation isn't going to clear itself overnight. my sources on the ground are telling me a lot of people are scared to move around the city. they are frightened about going through talibanab check points. they don't trust the government though says we will try to do everything possible to get you out because of what you are seeing unfold on the ground.ol this is a situation where time
