storming the building, ready to kill people that they might find. and if you can bring yourself back, as you've watching this right now, to how you felt at that moment, whether you were a democrat, whether you were a republican, whether you were a progressive, a moderate, or conservative, we were all horrified. in the days after that, there was broad unanimity that donald trump had crossed a line and could not be allowed to even remain in the presidency, potentially through the end of his term on january 20th. and the only reason we as a nation don't feel that sense of unity today is because donald trump and his followers have launched a three-year propaganda effort to dissuade us from remembering the truth. and the president brought us back to the truth today and reminded us of that unity that we need to put back together in 2024 to preserve democracy. >> one of the other things the president did, ian, was put this in a global context. he try v tied what's happening

primaries scheduled for super tuesday, march 5th. so time is of the essence. ballots to military and overseas voters have to go out by january 20th. a group of colorado voters is asking the supreme court to take this up as soon as friday. what this says is it's likely that the supreme court is going to play a major role in some crucial questions that could decide or help decide this presidential election, and interestingly, one of donald trump's lawyers, alina habba was raising questions about whether the supreme court will rule in trump's favor. take a listen. >> yeah, that's a concern that he's voiced to me, he's voiced to everybody publicly, not privately. i can tell you his concern is a valid one. republicans are conservative. they get nervous. they unfortunately are sometimes shy away from being pro-trump because they feel that even if the law is on our side, they may appear to be swayed much like the democratic side would do,

going to be in front of the supreme court in theory, obviously. let me ask about the schedule for the primary ballots themselves, and the printing. what's the time line when it comes to the primary schedule? >> well, it's important to remember that the colorado supreme court stayed its own decision meaning that donald trp's name stays on the colorado ballot unless and until the supreme court acts, basically in agreement with the colorado supreme court. the deadline is supposed to be the 5th. that's tomorrow. they start sending out ballots later in the month, and ballots can be sent to colorado voters in mid-february. colorado conducts its elections entirely by mail. there are early deadlines. i think it's reasonable to assume that donald trump's name is going to be on these ballots, at least when they get printed, probably when they get sent out. i don't think it's reasonable to expect the supreme court to take this up and act on the case in the incredibly condensed time line. >> the state deadline to certify the ballot, january 20th.

up for the supreme court earlier. now the court is kind of jamd into this. and andrew was absolutely right. there are ways for the court to rule tomorrow afternoon on whether to hear the case and ways to try to undo some of the uncertainty, but the fact is on january 20th, there's going to be mail-in ballots sent to military and overseas voters and then on february 12th active registered voters will get their ballots. so there's a need for the supreme court to resolve this as quickly as possible. i do blame the trump team taking that long to file that brief. now the court is a little jammed. >> the clock is ticking. thank you so much. when we come back, the ex-president is turning his very busy legal calendar into one big spectacle. we'll look at the legal and political strategy that is behind that. plus with president biden marking january 6th anniversary

listen. . . . >> brian: he says he needs the money -- he goes get him the money to protect the border. >> it's not the money. it's the will. remember what he did on january 20th, 2021, he changed the three policies from the trump administration that were working. he said no more building the wall. no more remain in mexico while we evaluate your claim. when we get you, when you come, in you will be released no. detention, no detaining these individuals no, returning them to their country. when you make those three changes who can fault people for wanting to come to the greatest country ever. they just keep coming. of the magnitude of this problem the country now fully understands even democrat mayors in chicago and new york understand how serious this problem is will we have the will to do?

we have been watching this situation. we saw the big news yesterday on the resignation of claudine gay. deroy, you're shaking your head as you're listening to gonzalez. seems like the answers here are so easy. i just spoke to congressman cuellar. a democrat from texas. he wants to see change there. i said a couple times, why doesn't president biden do these things right away? he said i don't know. >> first of all, happy new year. the policy we see is the policy joe biden wants. january 20th will mark three years since he became president. i think what biden and the democrats want is a border as you said earlier. there's no border. people are coming across by the millions. 8.2 million people illegally come in without papers, without visas or passports and they're here because biden and the

some arguments about selective prosecution, or vindictive prosecution. but he just doesn't have that here. this investigation, whatever delays the department of justice may have had and really honing in on mr. trump and appointing jack smith, they've been investigating january 6th an election fraud since january 6th, or really, jenner 20, with because mr. trump was still president from january 6th to january 20th. i think that effort would fill. >> symone, the snow that's going on in congress, the andrew clyde stuff. the impeachment of joe biden. even impeachment of joe biden. a whole lot of republicans who don't want that baggage. they don't want that albatross. they might think it's interesting that the far-right republicans talked about this all the time. when it comes down to an actual impeachment trial, and voting for impeachment, that's problematic. do you think there's any muscle in any of this nonsense of the trying to do in congress, to try to counter donald trump's actual legal woes? >> you know, i feel like maybe
