first it with the i think right now members that the legault household staff, also testifying against the bus. that is what multiple people -- classified documents investigation are telling, us and a cnn exclusive. they say federal prosecutors made calls with witnesses, a man who claimed the former president, bedroom a chauffeur, and a woodworker. people who might not get a lot of attention on trump property, but who see and hear a lot on the job. people who cnn has also learned have already been talking in detail to investigators. they are not likely witnesses. so our secret service agent sources tell, us and others in the room when the former president was captured on multiple -- apparently showing off a classified military document about bombing iran. >> wait a minute. let's see here. i just -- isn't that amazing? this totally wins my case. except it is highly controversial -- see as president i could have declassified, now i can't. >> isn't that interesting? that is so cool. look, new probably almost did not believe, me but now you believe me. >> i believe you. >> it is incredible. it brings some -- >> we don't know who brought the -- but you will remember, walt nada, the man who once served as -- and who still works for him is now a codefendant in the documents case. joining us now showing a byline's katelyn polantz. what more do you know about who might be called to testify? >> anderson, it very well could be the person who brought the coast. we don't know who it was, but it could be that person who we do not know is a long list of potential witnesses in this case. we have been able to cobble together, and they are people who are notable people around donald trump, the presidency, after the presidency, after the, club and they are also people who are moving in and out of the club, who might not have been that noticed by the visitors, who were, there or even trump himself. but the were people who noticed things. new things that they noticed, we heard about a woodworker for instance, someone who was installing crown molding -- and that person noticed a stack of documents that looked rather suspicious to him that he thought they were movie props, looked like ossified records of some sort. that person we were told does not actually know what he saw, but this is the sort of person who could be called to testify at this trial in florida to provide the picture of what it was like around mar-a-lago where all of these images that we have seen in photographs exist of documents and boxes. there were real people there in these spaces moving about a maid, a plumber, a chauffeur, as well knowing that something was off and thinking about that, then relaying that investigators. >> have prosecutors laid out why they think these individuals would be a good -- they have, and anderson, and we don't know whether they will for sure be called to testify in this case. they might not be. our understanding is that the multiple, times some of them -- before a grand jury in this, case and when you look at them on the hall, it appears they are the people who provide this picture -- and the trump presidency, how trump himself was a functioning. and how trump was, behaving these classified documents may have, gone are the moved, who have touch, them and who may have been around them on a day-to-day basis. >> what is the former president's reaction into all of this. >> well one of the things we heard as poetry tonight we're reporting out this story was that he has been quite protective as his -- so mar-a-lago in florida, this club he spent so much time, at what he heard that the maid who cleans his bedroom suites was someone that investigators wanted to talk to you and could be a potential witness in this case -- he went ballistic we were told. he has been quite unhappy whenever he has been approached by investigators. but the other thing that is important to note is how his luis are missed one for this. what is happening right now, anderson, they are trying to get this child pushed after the election next year. we are waiting to see what the judge does right now. it is set for may, she has said she's going to tell us if that date will hold, if there will be other dates that are moving. that is a really important thing. there is a difference here between these people that live in south florida, that work around donald trump and work at the club. are they going to tell their stories publicly before the election, or not? >> by the way, do we, know do they still work at the club? >> some of them do. some of them have left. as we were reporting the story, learning more and more about people who, left actually one person who was initially having a lawyer from the trump legal -- and got a new lawyer with a cooperation agreement, with the prosecutors in this case to become a key witness, that person's name is -- he is still working at the club in recent months, and then left just because the start of the season was coming, around and he felt it was time for him to leave working at mar-a-lago. he put in his resignation, letter that trump was very unhappy he had stayed on as an employee at the club after he had been sharing information damaging to the former president with prosecutors. >> katelyn polantz, thanks. with me here, cnn senior legal analyst former prosecutor elie honing, and also cnn's kaitlan collins host of this was coming up at 10:00. -- >> this is a jimson arrow for prosecutors. let me explain why. ordinary in the federal system, when your, particularly about your case on the back of a cooperators, and who is part of the, crime list but guilty, who is now your witness. so what happens, the defense lawyer stand up in closing, and they say folks, you are going to convict my client based on the word of a criminal, and then we prosecutor stand up and say to the jury, look, we love to call honest hardworking people to come in here and tell you about a crime, but that type of person is not on the inside of a crime. here they are literally on the inside of a crime. these are honest hardworking regular folks who had nothing to do with the crime. they are inside the, bedrooms inside the closet, even if they can't give the whole story eight to the, they can give importante dose they saw a box here or there. they heard a conversation. so that is the best-case scenario. >> is it clear what trump thinks of all this? >> they have kind of known these people were called in to speak to investigators. a lot of these people did not know what to do. you saw kaitlan just mention, they're still working, trump is not there in the summer, a start about this time of year, these are just regular people working these kind of day jobs. some of them have now been -- one of them named as a codefendant. some of them were still working there up until recently when he offered his resignation letter. we were told, was it because that trump found out, but they kind of happened around the same time as one another. what kaitlan said about the -- >> -- lie can you be fired if -- >> you are getting cut as a witness of an investigation? i don't think they have liaisons to help that i have found out about. but the made part that trump went ballistic over finding out the made was asked to speak with investigators. i had heard that as well. part of it was because i was told it was a maid who often went into mole on asked trump sweet and clean that. anything legal which up that involves millennia, it irritates, him because then he is the one getting in trouble with her. >> cross-examination employees, i mean will they be tried to be painted as anti trump somehow? >> so the smart way to do a cross examination of a witness like this is just find out they have omitted knowledge. maybe so box in the closet, but you don't know how you got there, you don't know who to get, out he did not hear conversations around. are you tried to limit the impact. what i think trump's team is likely to do is just claim that they are anti-, trump they have an agenda, i think the former is the more effective way to go here. i would not bet on them doing that. >> a lot of these people like trump. the work for him. they don't see him in the view of a political lens. yes he was the president, but he is their boss. he is the one who employs them at the club. so i think that is something with carlos, one of the other defendants named later on in the superseding indictment, that is an important thing to keep in mind. these are people who were pretty loyal to him in that sense. but they are not wealthy, they do not have a ton of resources, and they have been called before investigators. they can't exactly go out and just hire their own attorneys. a lot of them have trump provided attorneys. so that raises another question here as well. >> this makes it even better witnesses, they don't have an ax to grind with job. i also love the fact looking at this and prosecutors point of view, they are not high-profile d.c. insiders. they are not sidney powell, they are not mark meadows, they are just regular folks. ultimately who you have to appeal to in a jury trial is the jurors who are going to have the same kind of jobs as the people -- as relate-able. to the lawyer point that kaitlan, raised this is a time tested trump tactic. he baseless own lawyers of, course but people around him, which naturally it is not illegal to do, that it is common. but it has the effect of deterring potential cooperation. these folks get subpoenas, they understand that -- at least some of them have done just that. >> what with the secret service agents -- >> this is an interesting question. this came up in the clinton investigation by ken starr in 98. ken starr wanted to talk to bill clinton service agent, it was litigated and fought in court. the core, said they can testify. there is not some special privilege or protection for secret service agents. so i think prosecutors need to be careful here. you don't want to create a situation where secret service agents are trying to distance themselves that they don't hear something that could be dangerous. but yes, if necessary, you can get testimony from secret service agents. >> this may not even go to trial before the election -- >> she has hinted that she could push it past the election. judge cannon has. >> it is fairly likely should, as we are looking at a may trial date. we have a march day two months earlier on the federal january six trial, and i think what this judge doesn't want to do is make trump go to two trials essentially consecutive. >> all right, elie honig, thank, you kaitlan collins we will see at 9:00. also, kaitlan will be interviewing the former trump attorney jim trusty, for a cnn interview since resigning from the trump legal team. we will see that at 9:00. perspective on this, now last night's presidential debate chris christie -- former u.s. attorney governor. so cnn has reported that a plumber, a, made a chauffeur, and -- are among mar-a-lago staffers and contract workers who federal prosecutors may call to testify against former president trump as codefendants in the classified documents trial. does that indicate anything to you about the depth of the prosecution's case? >> the breath and the depth of the prosecution's case anderson, as you, know i did this for seven years as the u.s. attorney, the fifth largest office in the country. we did over 130 political corruption cases without defeat. what you want to see on a witness list is a broad witness list that can -- every potential contingency, every potential exit ramp that the defendant may have to try and justify his or her conduct that you believe based upon your evidence is criminal. so i think what you are seeing is just how thorough jack smith's investigation has been. there is no one who has seen or heard anything at mar-a-lago regarding these documents who is going to be immune from testifying if they believe they have relevant information. >> cnn is also reporting prosecutors may -- people who were in the room at the new jersey golf club when he discussed allegedly the classified plan to tackle iran. how important would it be two jurors to hear from those witnesses? >> very important, because as you know, donald trump has said that he was showing around some news clippings and not anything like that even though his words were contrary to that. so i figure you will need something to corroborate the tape. and the cooperation, the best cooperation will be the people actually at the table who can say exactly what they saw. he was a flashing around and showing them. so i think it makes sense to do that. if their evidence is as the prosecution has alleged, that is going to be a real problem for donald trump. >> there is a new york times poll from over the weekend showing as you, know that trump and -- five out of six eastern states the poll also indicates about 6% of voters potentially determinative margin would switch their support in those states from trump to biden if the former president was convicted and sentenced in a criminal trial. if trump is found guilty sometime next year before the nominating convention. do you think the party would possibly change horses midstream? is that even possible? >> sure, because the process will not be over at that point. anderson. that is what i'm saying i'm in this for the long haul. i'm in this till the convention. because circumstances are going to change, change significantly. not only because of the trial that starts on the day before super tuesday, but there will be testimony coming out, paul throughout that period of time that will be extraordinarily damning of the president. my guess is my first witness would be mark meadows. not some rogue democrats prosecutor, not some product of the two tiered system of justice that donald trump talks about. but a founder of the freedom caucus of north carolina who served as this final chief of staff. he is going to be sitting 20 feet from donald trump, in the federal courthouse in washington d.c., and telling a jury under oath that donald trump committed crimes right before his eyes to try and overturn the 2020 election. that is determining type of evidence and i believe i have said this the walls are closing in, he will be convicted, and you will see people change their votes and ran from him in droves, not only when the conviction happens, but as that evidence begins to develop and people hear it for folks like mark meadows under oath. >> he did not show up to the debate last night, but a new interview with univision, the former president reiterated his willingness to use the department of justice to go after his political opponents if he wins the white house saying, and i, quote if i have been to be president, and i see somebody who is doing well and beating me very, badly i say go down and indict them, and quote, that is according to a transcript released by innovation. it is unclear to me who he thinks he would be running against if you want another presidential term, since usually barred from being elected a third, time nevertheless do you have any doubt that is what a second term of the trump administration would, be a retribution? four years of retribution? >> no. he has said i will be your retribution. think about how different, for all the folks out there who are undecided about what to do with this election, think about how -- in 2023 than he was in 2016. in 2016, at the convention, he said i am your voice. now he's saying, i am your retribution. this is outrageous. think about, it you had folks like bill barr who were keeping him on the rails, stopping him from doing stuff like this at the justice department. nobody is good and decent as honest as bill barr is going to agree to be donald trump's attorney general if he ever became president again. that is another thing for yourself to think about. the fact is, 40 of his 44 cabinet level official's house and not only were they not work for him, again they would not support him to be president at all again. this is incredibly damning for people who worked with him every day as president, anderson. >> country that can stop, him when we have to stop him is right now. we can't let him get the nomination, or get in front of these folks, and you mentioned him not being on the debate stage last night. it is the third time in a row. it is disgraceful. i think he doesn't want to be, there anderson, because he -- knows i have been holding him to account since the money i got in this race. and a buddy out there who wants them to get onstage, go to chris christie.com, donie in dollar, keep me on that debate stage because it will be there what donald trump shows, up and you know i will hold him to account. >> we will take a quick break, i will talk to more about last night's republican debate miami minus the former president as i mentioned. also new video just in of american airstrikes on iranian targets in syria, was a closer report on the fighting in northern gaza from our oren liebermann who's embedded withth israraeli troopsps. >> i want to focus now on the bay and ten pitch ahead in the iowa caucuses incumbent, charles to, governor you are called the former president in college for skipping yet another debate last night. clearly the strategy is not hurting with republican voters. isn't it smart for him not to show up? >> i don't care whether this mother, not it is wrong. it is wrong, anderson. he's asking for the republican nomination for president, yet he won't discuss his record. i understand why he doesn't want to. if i were out on bail in four different jurisdictions, i would not have to explain it. if i promise to build a wall and mexico to pay for, now call the people who believed them for believing it, i would not want to explain that. i would not want to explain seven trillion and that when i would balance the budget. but you have an obligation to the voters to be able to do it. i know the polls show right now, it is not hurting him, but i believe it will as people start to get closer to this are going to make the decision to vote. i bet you in january, he will be in one of these, debates either in iowa or new hampshire, because the polls will force him to. >> you are heading to israel tomorrow, on the debate stage last night, he said the fact, this israel and their intelligence community failed to protect israeli citizens from the october 7th attacks. you were referring. would you want to see the israeli government to do about that failure? because -- -- the chief of intelligence services, that the military over there have. he has not. obviously there is going to be some sort of a reckoning once the fighting stops. what do you think that he should do, or they should do? >> look, his first obligation, anderson, is to win the war. that is his first obligation. it is to protect the territorial integrity of israel, to make sure you protect the safety and security of his citizens, and to -- hamas that they can never do this again. those are his obligations. we are going to have plenty of time for an after action report, afterwards figure out how far up in the chain irresponsibility, goes and whether it includes the prime minister or not. in the and, we know it was a failure. there is no way that hamas should have been able to do that on october 7th, if the intelligence community was on top of the game. so we know mistakes were made, but the reckoning will come later on. first and foremost, it is to protect the territorial integrity of israel, protect the safety and security of citizens, and degrade hamas. what i also hope the government, does is keep our eye on the ball while they are doing this. continued isolation of iran is the greatest security move that israel can make. that means continuing to make smart fair agreements with other arab countries and the middle east so iran and its desire to wipe israel off the map gets more and more isolated i
