good sunday morning. it is september 4th. hope you are having a good start to your holiday weekend. i am t. j. holmes. we have some tornado warnings in place right now. all of this because of tropical storm lee. it is kicking up waves, slamming a boat here in mississippi, but this is a taste of what this thing is doing. we will have the latest on the watches and warnings in place and what tropical storm lee is doing. sexual assault charges against them have been dismissed, so dominic strauss-kahn got out of here and headed home to france. we'll have a live report to paris just ahead. one of the most anticipated republican speeches of the summer, and no, it did not come from one of the candidates. it was sarah palin. she was a headliner at a major tea party rally. we will let you know what she had to say. let's start with the slow-moving storm. it's soaking the gulf coast right now. tropical storm lee going at about 2 miles per hour, literally. can you go outside and take off running and outrun this thing easily. but that doesn't mean there's a lot of danger from this storm. take a look. you are seeing this from just a second ago. out of mississippi, and the winds are kicking things up. 50-mile-per-hour winds in some places, and winds are one thing but maybe not the biggest concern from the storm. you are seeing what it's leaving behind in new orleans. some places could get as much as 20 inches. now, we're not seeing the major flooding yet. but this thing is moving so slowly as i bring in bonnie sp schneider. >> it's a concern right now, t. j. we have four tornado warnings in effect. mississippi and florida you are facing tornado warnings and they have sat here for the past 30 minutes because the threat won't go away. right here in the panhandle of florida, and popular vacation spots this holiday weekend. you run the risk of volatile severe weather. the thunderstorms just hammering areas to the west of panama city. these thunderstorms contain not only strong and damaging winds but large hail and freak lightning strikes. and right in the same region we have had reports of wind damage to mobile homes last night, so the same places, more wind is expected. secure your property and be prepared for the worst as we are looking at the tornado threats straight through the afternoon and evening hours. and the watch box extends in the panhandle of florida, and this will go straight into the afternoon as we continue to monitor the threat that lee continues to bring. this tropical storm is just meandering right here off the louisiana coast. it continues to bring heavy rain to new orleans and moving to the northeast at 3 miles per hour and that trek continues to be slow enough to cause 10 inches of rain in some locations. we will show you what is happening with lee and katia is just a bit. we're four minutes past the hour now and we have seen some of the rainbands battling the coast already. ed lefendaria joins me. he joins me on the phone. the weather is causing problems for other folks and our crew as well. >> the last hour and a half we have been hit by the rainband, and that's south of new orleans. it's not allowing our satellite signal to get through the rain and clouds to do something live for you. we'll phone in this report. we're here because this is the low lying area in new orleans, and they had to issue some mandatory evacuation orders in some of the lowest lying areas around this community, where the enter coastal waterways. and this tropical storm lee has pushed boughter into the community so there are dozens of homes where the floodwaters are getting close and into the homes. that's why thez people were told they had to evacuate the area. we mention it over and over about how slow moving the storm is, and the storm continues to push north and that pushes it inland. they say it could take 24 hours for it to push out of here. the good news is we have not heard of any drownings or deaths or injuries related to the storm. that's great news for the weekend. >> thank you, as always. six minutes past the hour. we'll give you some of the other stories making headlines. barack obama headed to patterson, new jersey. this is the scene he will be greeted by. it's been a full week after the storm hit. the president will be joined on his tour by governor chris christie. dominique strauss-kahn back home this morning. only one guy got all the attention on the flight after he arrived. a lot of cameras in paris. a judge dismissed charges in the case where he was accused of trying to rape a hotel maid. jim, hello to you and what kind of future does he hold there in france? we know he had some pretty big political aspirations? >> reporter: yeah, that he was going to be the next president of france if you read the opinion polls, but now nobody is saying that he could somehow revive his chances in time to run for president in 2012. he may make an attempt at influencing the election campaign, and that's something everybody is watching for, what kind of hand he will play at the moment. right now he has not said a word to anybody and arrived earlier than expected and charged through the journalists at the airport and then went to an apartment and there was another mob of journalists there and he charged through that group of people, and is recovering from jet lag in his apartment. we are expecting that he will say something probably tomorrow. a spokesman told one of the journalists that he is not going to say anything today, but will maybe announce something tomorrow in terms of an interview or on french television. in the meantime, a number of his supporters, including one of his neighbors in the fancy neighbor where he lives, jack lang, who is a specialists had this to say about dominique strauss-kahn, and the influence he could have in france. >> his fabulous qualities, his knowledge of the economy, of the question of society could be -- should be very useful for us, not only in france but also in europe. but he has to decide, and i cannot decide instead of him. >> reporter: jack lang there talking about the up side. on the downside, 80% of the french think that dominique strauss-kahn should not be a candidate for president in 2012. >> the criminal complaint has gone away but now a civil complaint is still in place. a lawsuit. what can they do to him? can he be spelled to pay this french citizen now that he is back home in france? >> reporter: absolutely, if he loses that lawsuit he would be liable for any damages that were awarded to the victim in this case. he will be fighting it out, and a lot of people talk about it being settled out of court to avoid messiness that might be involved in a trial, so there is that. he also has a complaint that is facing him here in france, a journalists said he attempted to rape her eight years ago and she brought a complaint to the prosecutor and the prosecutor is weighing that and has not decided if there is sufficient evidence to bring charges. he will bring him in for a interview to see his side of the story. >> thank you as always. ten minutes past the hour. let's turn back to the politics in this country and to sarah palin. she is back at the podium. you would expect her to take a few swipes at the president, but she's calling out some of her fellow republicans. >> politicians are so focused on the symptoms and not the disease, and we will not solve our economic problems until we confront of cronyism of our president and our permanent political class. >> turning up the heat for the tea party, but some people wonder if she is setting up a presidential run. we're taking a look. >> are they going to suspend the game? >> well, it could depend on a situation. some of the suits definitely do have merit, and some don't. so far as the ones that have merit, they are a great idea. >> what gives it merit? you saw numbers going in, and you showed me 98% get jobs and i didn't get a job and you lied. is that enough? >> there's a lot of blame to go around. both the law students attending the schools without adequate information and then the law schools who are not breaking down the information, the sem tree that they enjoyed for a long time. so when somebody looks at the 98% number, they assume it could mean full time legal employment, as opposed to working part time for a burger king or mcdonald's. >> that's an important distinction. let's hit on that. some think that the law schools are doing wrong, the numbers may say 98% have employment but it didn't mean necessarily full time employment at a law firm or in the legal field. are all law schools doing this? most of them? is it accepted or a trend? what is done? >> this is the accepted practice. the american bar association mandates that schools report a percentage of the graduates that are employed, and they count any job as a job in this situation. now this is something that is changing at this very moment, and my organization has been involved in lobbying the aba and also law schools to share more granular employment data, so people can go into it knowing what to expect. >> can it be helpful, as expensive as law schools are, and if we get the information about jobs, this could wean out the students that go to law school that think it will pay off in the end, and can this kind of help now, students make decisions and you are getting students in the law schools who really want to be lawyers?
