president of russia is something that not only, you know, goes beyond what the u.s. is prepared to pursue from a policy basis, but goes beyond what these allies that we carefully pulled together want to live up to, and he made clear in his own words as well as his staff, we are not aiming to execute regime change in russia, and he can speak to why he made that statement, and there, i think, you know, he's giving voice to his personal frustration that we all feel in watching this, but there's a difference, there really is a difference, between the united states kind of deciding as a matter of policy that we are going to try and overthrow the russian government and expressing that manner of disgust of what we have seen. >> do you have concerns, ben, that that's a statement that could have lingering consequences? >> i really don't. vladimir putin thinks that's our policy already, to tell you the
public remarks over the course of the last couple weeks is trying to retrain the focus on the bigger picture, and i think that's something fa-you're hearing a lot from white house officials is look at what this plan, even if it's not to the scale that you want, progressives or if it's larger than you would want, moderates, look what it would do to health care costs and in terms of prescription drugs. look what it would do in terms of shifting or reshaping the tax code. those are all democratic priorities, and i think that that's the biggest thing that you hear right now from white house officials is two-fold. don't miss the forest through the trees. there's an opportunity that democrats even with the barest of majorities in the house and senate can do something that many of them have been pressing for on a policy basis for years if not decade, and this is kind of an implicit thing that you hear from white house officials. if you don't get this done, there won't be much else that you can bring to the table during the mid-term elections and that includes the infrastructure bill and also the bigger picture proposal. there's a push. you want something and need something to show for these
obama-biden relationship that is so critical to the former vice president's campaign. this is the first time publicly we're seeing them together since biden announced his candidacy in april. i say publicly because aides to both men tell me they've continued to speak and meet in person often during that time. we know they both attended a graduation for obama's daughter, biden's granddaughter a few months ago. they've had a fairly regular interaction. we would expect after the service today, as the service breaks up, there will certainly be an opportunity for the two of them to connect. for biden, of course, we hear him mention the president often on the campaign trail. just last week he said at a fund-raiser he speaks to the president a lot. we've heard from him in scranton the other day, talking about both on a policy basis, how important it is for him to fight for the obama legacy, especially on the affordable care act. also, he jokes about their personal relationship and how, as he put it in scranton, the way you hear obama talk about

and go somewhere where they know the child's going to die, but that's what they're telling them to do, and if they don't they're going to drag them through deportation proceedings. >> in terms of the next step here, obviously people can get lawyers and try to fight this and try to find some way to argue with the government here are going to do so. do you know if there is a plan to try to challenge this on a policy basis, to try to stop the trump administration from making this wholesale change? >> yeah, there is definitely an attempt. we've tried reaching out -- of course we had no notice of this either which is really problematic. there was no announcement that this program was ending. we were filing applications up until the week before we started getting the notices. there was no notice to the -- to the immigration attorneys, to the individuals. there was no hint that this was coming. it's still unclear what's going to happen to people already in the program, but there's also an effort to come up with a legal strategy to challenge this in the courts because it's just so egregious and the way they did it was so egregious, and the
