But again, someone who is of this age has a fall like this, has a traumatic brain injury, even if it s mild, should be evaluated after an episode like this. i m sure his doctors were probably wanting to watch this sort of video to see if they could make sense it have and correlate it with his medical history. but this was a neurological event. it lasted quite some time. he did improve, he did resolve these symptoms, but in order to try and get some sense of what it was and to try and reduce the chance of it happening again, he s got to get checked out. sanjay, appreciate it. manu, thank you. and later, my conversation with a retired navy pilot about her unexplained encounter with what are commonly called ufos as well as the latest on a congressional hearing later

That is why bronny james underwent it. joining me now is cnn s sports analyst, christine brennan. christine, you have covered so many young star athletes in their time. what went through your head when you first heard about this health scare? but also what we have heard learned from sanjay that he, just a few months ago, was undergoing normal tests? kaitlan, what it shows us is that this is just such a shocking and unforeseen development, that you could think someone is healthy and all of a sudden you could have something that can just be so catastrophic. we learned that with demar hamlin, of course, just 6 and a half months ago, the buffalo bills player and, of course, it s a different situation but i think one of the very good things out of a terrible situation is that the national conversation we are having, and the fact that it really saved his life, especially high school athletes, because, if people are aware of it, and this conversation from damar hamlin now, to bronny james, obviously now people will hopefully understand the risks

Do you think he should run? the new congress is 18 months away. i m trying to figure out how we get the authorization bill off the floor today. reporter: senator mep mccomoff to business as usual today. he gave a speech on the senate floor. he s been voting all day, and for senator feinstein, one of the spoke people issued a statement saying she was simply preoccupied at the time the vote was called, which was why she didn t initially vote at that moment it was caught on camera. manu raju, thank you. for more on this let s bring in cnn s chief medical correspondent, dr. sanjay gupta. sanjay, what s your sense of mcconnell s additional falls we learned about after seeing what happened yesterday. he is 81 years old. is that typical? what s your sense? it s a lot more common than people realize. remember than just the falls people mentioned back in 2019 he fell and fractured his shoulder. you might remember that as well,

We are wishing him the best. thank you so much for explaining to us, sanjay. thank you. let us now bring in the host of headliners with racial on showtime. rachel, thank you so much for being here this evening. bronny has been one of the most hyped up, for good reason, young basketball player in the entire country. the spotlight has only increased when he committed to play for usc. just on the road where his dad played for the lakers. you have been covering lebron for a very long time. before bronny was even born, i understand. it we will talk about age here, rachel. can you give us some sense of how you have seen bronny handle growing up in such a scrutiny? especially when he s on the court. yeah. the reason that is relevant is that he has been in the spotlight that long. i m a reporter. i met him when he was a baby. he has been in front of the media. he was at his father s games. we have seen him grow up.

Do that to. this has been the plan. and we ll have to see if bronny s health will permit this. sanjay was talking earlier about the different ways cardiac arrest happens. with damar hamlin, that was blunt force trauma. that was jarring. we saw him take a shot right to the chest and it stopped his heart. when it s a case with bronny james, maybe he took an elbow to the chest, we don t know. but more commonly what happens is there is something about the athlete s heart that in that moment of stress, of stopping and starting and everything that goes on that causes this condition. so as sanjay mentioned, the expectation is he will go through testing over this next week, see if they can identify the problem that led to this solvable or fixable. we expect him to get right back on the court the way damar hamlin has been able to enter training camp this week with the bulls and hopefully continue that bright future that is ahead of him. if not, obviously it would be a crushing disappointment if we can t play basketball again.

Paralysis. so, how much of it is the drug, how much of it is diabetes that is something the fda is when you look at. on a practical level though, anesthesiologist have weighed in on this. you know, you re not supposed to eat before you have surgery. the reason you don t eat is you don t want some food in the stomach. what the anesthesiologists, the american academy of anesthesiology, says you should stop these medications at least a week before surgery so you re not accumulating food, essentially, in your stomach, that you could potentially aspirate during an operation. so, that s a practical note there. all right, sanjay, appreciate it. we ll be right back.

Attacks or mis, myocardial infarctions. and what does recovery look like, sanjay? well, you knew, it s speculative at this point. i think the best news that we heard yesterday was that he was in the icu for a short period of time and then was released from the icu, which means the doctors thought he was stable, did not need any kind of intensive care anymore. that s a really good sign. you remember damar hamlin, for example, was in the icu for a few days. but what caused this? that s still the big question. that s what they re investigating now. they will look for these electrical problems in the heart. they will look to see if there was some sort of structural abnormality of the heart that to have caused this. that can take some time. depending on what it is, that will give a good chance of recovery for his overall heart but also the likelihood whether or not he will play again. dr. sanjay gupta, great to see you. thank you for all of this information. ra rahel? john, coming up for us, they ve been described as a potential national security

But they were able to quickly do that and now it is, as you say, the question of trying to figure out what happened here. some context, going back to a study from 2015, we know that, n, rare, 6,000 to 7,000 times a year you do e these out of hosl sudden cardiac arrests in young athletes. sports involved under e age of 18, happens more as you get older. older than that, 35 years and older then you have corners of coronary arteries that can become block. that s not what this is here. it does happen, rare. sanjay, as we talk about car yak arrest, important to note this isn t a heart attack.
