will: benjamin netanyahu rejecting the biden administration's call for a humanitarian pause and gaza as they push deeper into the gaza strip as the leader of hezbollah threatens further escalation with israel and warns the us involvement in the conflict will not scare us. i am griffin jenkins. alicia: i am alicia acuna. there's a much calling for cease-fire and end to us aid to israel. we have coverage with steve harrigan on israel/lebanon border, trey yingst in southern is reliant mike emanuel in washington. we start with you for the latest on the pro-palestinian march. >> reporter: good afternoon. the crowd to build steadily, people coming from all over, some pro-palestinian, others antiwar, the bottom line is they are calling on president biden to defund support to israel and calling for end to military action in the middle east region. you can see freedom plaza is inside of the capit0l building. the streets have been closed off. all kinds of signage and us aid to israel, lest gaza live, stop harming israel, cease-fire now, also caskets with palestinian flags out here. people have come out for a variety of reasons, some telling us they are supporting the palestinian people, they want a free palestine, they feel this is 75 years of struggle for the palestinian people and they are out here expressing support and calling for action in trying to send a message to president biden. this rally expected to go much of the afternoon ending up near the white house later this afternoon. it has grown in size, we expect speeches to start in a matter of moments. i'm joined by a protester named yvonna. why are you here today? >> just like everybody else, we are outraged this is still going on, that apartheid state is being funded by us and we are here to let the administration know that it is kind of -- there's no excuse. there's nothing to say. there's a genocide and we are paying for it and it needs to stop and we will vote him out if we need to. >> reporter: you have experience as a refugee, tell me your story. >> i immigrated here because of the war in bosnia, the trauma, the multigenerational trauma, i witnessed genocide happened in front of our eyes. the most frustrating thing is that everything that is happening is textbook genocide, textbook dehumanization, everything that i have heard in the narrative of self-defense of israel to justification for apartheid is familiar. >> reporter: do you feel for the innocent loss of life on both sides? >> of course i do. i also feel for both my jewish and muslim friends here who showed up knowing they experience discrimination. 3500 kids in three weeks is one thing, is unconscionable, but the fact that the narrative of self defense is exactly the same before and after should tell us all that the language is never going to change, that the language of the defense for israel as a state will be forever unless we stop it. >> reporter: emotions running high out here. the crowd is growing and they will march sooner from here at freedom plaza to the white house to send a message to president biden. alicia: thank you so much. as we follow the events in dc, fox news was in gaza, among the first journalists -- trey yingst is on the ground in jerusalem with more. >> reporter: we were among the first group of journalists to enter the gaza strip since this war began. we want to show you a preview of the report for next hour. you can hear the gunfire in the distance, israelis are trying to engage anyone who tries to ambush their forces. the battle is street by street, urban guerrilla warfare, hamas is popping out of tunnels and ambushing israeli troops. right now we are embedded with the israeli military and the gaza strip. these forces have been ambushed, shot at, lost 2 dozen of their own soldiers. they fight block by block in bloodier been battle, guerrilla fighters popping out of tunnels and trying to kill as many israelis as they can. as the israelis push deeper into the gaza strip, factions inside maintain their ability to fire rockets at major population centers, they were sounding north of the southern city that sits on the red sea giving a sense of the range these rockets have. griff: we are glad you allowed us into gaza. stay safe, we are thinking of you. thank you for your reporting. griff: tension rising in the middle east as has bless threatens to escalate its involvement in the israel/hamas war. us warships entering the region saying the move will not scare us. chief international correspondent steve harrigan has the latest from northern israel. >> reporter: it has been steady fighting across the border between israel's north and lebanon, hezbollah fighters launching missiles on a daily basis, some towns getting hit with 10 or 12 rockets in a single day. when you talk to people who have not fled their homes like tens of thousands, it is an atmosphere of fear it self. >> they grab whatever they can and just go away, hezbollah will become like they did in gaza and come into our houses. >> reporter: fear of a repeat of what happened in gaza, it has been contained within two miles of the border, hezbollah firing short-range rockets and israeli forces firing back. we heard from the leader of hezbollah who threatened all options were still on the table and in the north, israeli forces remain on high alert. griff: thanks, on the northern border. alicia: president biden spending the weekend in delaware after calling for humanitarian pause to israeli strikes in gaza. an idea netanyahu rejected after meeting with antony blinken. alexandria hoff is live with the latest. >> reporter: secretary blinken is in jordan today, these trips work both ways, you had us allied arab state under pressure on secretary blinken for the us to adhere or support an immediate cease-fire, something the white house is not interested in doing. secretary blinken explain why today. >> a cease-fire now, hamas in place, able to regroup and repeat what it did on october 7th. you don't have to take my word for it. a few days ago a senior hamas official said it was their intent to do october 7th again and again and again. >> reporter: that is israel's view against a humanitarian pause which is what the white house is supporting, israel feels that would benefit hamas. they have to see the 240 hostages released before anything like that would happen. president biden asked about getting americans out of gaza. >> your message to america. can you contain the middle east war? >> president biden: do you have a camera? >> reporter: fox news confirmed that 400 americans have been approved to leave gaza. they began on thursday. at home the president is fighting criticism from progressives in his own party. rashida tlaib sharing a lofty accusation on x. >> we will remember in 2024. >> reporter: you saw those words on the screen. they said we are going to remember in 2,024, and an accusation that president biden is supporting genocide. the white house previously called the squad's comments on israel disgraceful. i will wait to see the white house's response, it will be strongly worded as well. griff: for more reaction we are joined by democratic congressman from california and senior member of the house foreign affairs committee in the permanent select intelligence committee, great to have you here, the most important committee in congress and you heard the report from trey yingst in gaza, clearly a pause is not happening and doesn't appear one is coming yet the administration, secretary blinken asking for the humanitarian pause. what do you make of it? >> i support humanitarian pause to get medical supplies into gaza. we want to minimize innocent civilian deaths but we will stand with israel. they are our ally and friend. israel has the right to defend itself and we will continue to do what we have to do to support israel. our mission is very clear, reporting on what's happening on the northern border of hezbollah, and we will do what we have to do. as well as iranian proxy groups, the houthi rebels in yemen, to keep this contained, we want to minimize innocent palestinian deaths. griff: with the uss ford and eisenhower, there's deterrence and it looks like hassan nasrallah, leader of hezbollah, has got the message even though he's talking tough. i want to step back for a second because you spent time in israel this summer, with what you can tell us, was there any indication this was coming both in what happening in gaza and the larger global concerns which iran's fingerprints are all over this. >> this was a massive intelligence failure. my recent trips on the northern border, on what hezbollah, you saw the internal political strife that prime minister netanyahu's judicial reforms focus on the west bank. a lot of actions on the west bank. how something like this happened, there is going to have to be a big review. how did this get missed? how do we do this from an intelligence perspective to make sure something like this doesn't happen again, internally within is real, how something like this occurred. griff: i want your response to rashida tlaib who has been very outspoken of the administration calling for a cease-fire and you saw in the tweet she put out, telling president biden we will vote you out, and you, accusing the president and the administration, of supporting genocide. of course, you saw the report from one of the protesters, mike emanuel, that woman mentioned genocide half a dozen times, her view of what is happening is there. what is your response to rashida tlaib? is she going far over the line here? >> i would like her to say she support israel's right to exist, israel has a right to defend itself, this is not genocide, this is war. i don't -- we can certainly debate if israel is prosecuting this war in the most effective way. i worry they are responding to what hamas wants them to do, pulled them into urban warfare. i worry about idea of soldiers getting killed. at the end of this is israel going to occupy gaza? is there a possibility of israelis and palestinians living side-by-side in peace? i don't know. it's a dangerous situation but i would love for her to say israel has a right to exist. griff: this chant at the protest, they chant from the river to the sea palestine will be free. your interpretation of that and she retweeted that. is that -- does that deny the existence of israel? >> we know where hamas stands, they deny the existence of israel, kill all the jews. israel has a right to exist, it's the jewish homeland. that the american position and president biden's position. griff: appreciate your time and insight. alicia: from the other side of the aisle we are joined by republican congresswoman diana harshburger. first question has to do with antony blinken in the middle east, meeting with arab leaders in jordan. one of the topics they are discussing is what a postwar reality would look like in the middle east in your mind. what would it be? >> they will probably talk about a two state solution and i agreed with congressman bera. israel has a right to defend itself, let it protect its citizens. alicia: let's discuss this $14 billion aid package to israel that was passed this week along party lines, 12 democrats joining republicans, chuck schumer called it stunningly unserious. it would come from cutting money from the irs and the president said he would veto it anyway. let's listen to democratic congressman jared moscowitz and his criticism of speaker mike johnson. >> this was his first full week, first big vote, national security issue for the american people, national security issue for israel. our number one ally. he played politics to send out a political mailing. this is disgusting for republicans to do this in the jewish people's greatest time of need since the holocaust. griff: alicia: he voted yes but what do you say to that criticism? >> we passed a supplemental aid package to support one of our biggest allies in the middle east which is israel. i thought it was brilliant the way he paid for that, he took a bloated biden budget and took money from the inflation reduction act, he used that to pay for this bill, you can't get better than that, and take money from the administration, in every part of working taxpayer in america, the middle class, and use that money to do good and not to do harm to american citizens. alicia: if it's not going to go anywhere, how does it help? >> the senate needs to take a hard look in the mirror and say would you rather send money to ukraine instead of the southern border? when they do they will realize would you rather hire 80,000 more irs agents or support your greatest ally in the middle east which is israel? they made the right decision and hopefully they can say it's dead on arrival but whatever they send us, with ukraine funding or worker funding and not separate it i think it will be dead on arrival in the house. alicia: i want to ask about the holdup of confirmation of military nominees by republican senator tommy to aville, republican senators could sizing their colleague and pleading with him, the defense department doing the same thing. you are in the house and this is the senate but what's the impact this is having on the military and your party? >> senator to overville is saying the biden administer a should disregard the law, they want to fund abortion for love va which is against the law, taking a stand for the people he serves saying you are not going to do that, offered to look at those nominees one by one, they want to do it by lot. i applied senator to aville -- tuberville, that's the wrong decision to make for both sides. alicia: thank you for joining us. >> my pleasure. griff: the pentagon confirming the us has flown an arm surveillance drones over gaza. live report from the pentagon next. right now get a free footlong at subway. like the new deli heroes. buy one footlong in the app, get one free. it's a pretty big deal. kinda like me. order in the subway app today. hi, i'm michael, i've lost 70 pounds on golo. i spent thousands on other diets that didn't work. on golo, i spent a couple hundred bucks and got back down to my high school weight. you're not gonna believe this thing is possible but it is. hi, i'm william devane. did you know it took our founders 116 days to debate and draft the u.s. constitution? >> as israel conducts its campaign, israel must take every possible measure to end civilian casualties. my meetings with israeli officials yesterday, i confirm additional steps to do that. protecting civilians will prevent hamas from further exploiting the situation. most important, it is the right moral thing to do. >> reporter: aircraft carrier strike groups conducted joint exercises over the last three days in the eastern mediterranean sea. and in high value unit defense, ballistic missile defense, and maritime security operations, joined by the uss mount whitney, and two italian navy frigates. in lebanon, there continues to be threats hurled at the us by hassan nasrallah. >> if you want to put a end to the possibility of a regional war, you, the americans, put a end to the aggression in east gaza, if there's a regional war, your fleets will be no good. >> reporter: the us military is flying drones over gaza to help the israelis locate the hostages. griff: thank you, jennifer griffin. alicia: back to israel to check with trey yingst for an update next. mucinex kickstart. headache?
