[gunfire] >> sandra: the new video in to us through the idf, the war in gaza reaching a crucial moment, israeli forces making a daring raid on gaza's largest hospital, suspected of protecting hamas central command center. entering the hospital hours after the pentagon said u.s. intelligence supports israel's claims hamas has been operating out of the hospital complex for years. complete coverage, former deputy national security adviser victoria coates is standing by. but first, let's get to alex hogan, live on the ground in northern israel for us at this hour. hezbollah has been firing more rockets towards your location, alex? >> that's right, sandra. so, we saw a range of missiles and rockets fired just towards this direction. our crew was able to run to the bomb shelter but we had a camera capturing some images. as many as 15 rockets and missiles landing there on the border near us between israel and lebanon. the idf says it is responding to that today. idf has reportedly left the al-shifa hospital and is stationed on the exterior of that healthcare facility. but so far soldiers there say they have uncovered ammunition and military infrastructure inside. it had been days of a anff to prevent civilian casualties. the idf says it has taken control of the north where it also says it found tunnels that hamas uses as well as these intricate training centers where there is classrooms, really expansive situations that we are seeing there, but the main concern for the idf on the ground is with this intricate system of tunnels that they could be ambushed from behind. now, as far as the danger for civilians who are there, israel has green lighted fuel shipments to gaza for humanitarian reasons. this was the first fuel truck to drive through the rafah crossing earlier today. israel had previously not allowed fuel shipments saying that hamas would only take this fuel as a weapon to then fight back. prime minister benjamin netanyahu tonight says as many as 10,000 rockets from hamas has been fired across israel, and a threat of hezbollah on the other side of the border in the continued strikes we continue to report on. sandra. >> sandra: alex hogan with the latest, a lot of action. we'll check in with you again shortly. thank you. john. >> john: let's bring in victoria coates, former deputy national security adviser to president trump and vice president of foreign policy at the heritage foundation. so, it was interesting yesterday both john kirby and sabrina singh at the pentagon confirmed through the u.s. intelligence said yes, we know hamas is using this al-shifa hospital for military operations and for hiding hostages. though today john kirby stopped short of saying that joe biden had green lighted the hospital operation. listen here. >> we did not give an ok to their military operations around the hospital in similar fashion to the effect that we didn't, you know, we don't give oks to their other tactical operations. these are israeli military operations that they plan, and they execute on, you know, in accordance with their own established procedures. the united states is not -- is not involved in that -- in these procedures. >> john: so the white house is saying we did not green light this operation but the same time, both the white house and the pentagon giving cover to that operation by saying yeah, israel is right. >> i would prefer them to be standing a little more strongly with israel and saying it was a necessary operation that had to happen. we have had this problem with al-shifa going back at least ten years, it was a problem in the gaza war in 2014 and israel was restrained from going in and taking care of it. clearly it remained a key asset for hamas and where they planned the most recent attack. >> john: we were talking about the building itself before you came on. what do you know about it? >> it's always good to have an art historian around. but no, the building originally was a british barracks during the protectorate, it was in the 1990s and up to their standards, and one of the most well maintained building, and not just shifa, but the schools where hamas parks the missiles, fighters embedded in them, and that's how they try to protect their operations and i guess that's what israel has decided enough is enough and even though it's a hospital, they are going to take out what they can. >> john: when it was built as a barracks and upgraded by the israelis, how extensive was the underground portion of it. >> i think it was normal, a normal basement, yeah, obviously for a hospital of that scale it's going to be large. but what appears to have happened is that hamas has dug different levels of tunnel, not just one level. so you have almost like floors underground going down, and so it's going to be very difficult to dismantle entirely, but they are trying. >> john: so far evidence that weapons were being housed there. no sign of hamas leadership at this point, though. the country is coming in for withering criticism for operations at the hospital but what the wall street journal said about it. contrary media claims of israeli siege, israel days ago opened a humanitarian corridor, many have since fled. israel is in contact with the hospital and offered to evacuate patients for treatment elsewhere. hamas prefers patient, including babies, to remain in the war zone. we saw that in recent hours israel has delivered some humanitarian supplies, incubators, hospital beds and other things, at least gurneys to the hospital. so it is fighting against the p.r. campaign that hamas is waging that israel is attacking what should be an out of bounds target. >> no, absolutely. and israel knows perfectly well that this public relations war will be waged against them, this is what hamas has done historically, and so they have developed extraordinary procedures going back to 2014 again, the after action reports that we sent our generals over to critique them for their behavior, and our generals came back and basically said we could learn from the israelis. so they know, they don't want any harm to come to these people. they tried to deliver fuel to the hospital, hamas refused it. they are the ones who are holding the people of gaza at risk. >> john: i want to ask you quick about this new report that came out of reuters that said iran's supreme leader delivered a clear message to the head of hamas when they met in tehran in early november, you gave us no warning of your october 7th attack on israel and we will not enter the war on your behalf. iran won't directly intervene in the conflict unless it itself is attacked by israel or the united states, according to officials with direct knowledge. instead, the clerical rulers use their axis network of armed allies, including hezbollah to launch rocket and drone attacks on israeli and american interests across the middle east. it suggests unless iran is attacked directly it will stay out of the war. do you think it will be cover to say iran had nothing to do with it? >> like the scene from "casablanca," shocked to learn gambling is going on, here is your winnings. there's no way hamas planned this without intelligence support from a nation state actor and that actor is iran and interesting in the context of the xi-biden meeting, if iran bank rolled hamas, xi bank rolled iran. >> john: the money trail is long and tortuous. no question about that. >> sandra: very interesting discussion. thank you, john. a new development in hunter biden's legal saga, where the president's son is now pushing to somebody several high profile individuals, including former president donald trump and his attorney general. >> john: plus, house lawmakers pressing dhs secretary alejandro mayorkas and those coming over the border. we are going to be joined to discuss whether the biden administration is doing anything to address the growing threat. car payments are getting out of control. not long ago, you could pay off a car in a few years. now, car loan rates have climbed to 15% and can take five years to pay off. so get this, the newday 100 va cash out loan. our lower rates let you use the equity in your home to pay off high rate car and truck loans. and you can save $500 a month. with the freestyle libre 2 system, know your glucose level and where it's headed. no fingersticks needed. manage your diabetes with more confidence. freestyle libre 2. try it for free at freestylelibre.us ♪ the winter play was really coming together. ♪ until... disaster struck. ♪ tensions... were high. ♪ luckily, replacement costumes were shipped with fedex. which means mr. harvey... could picture the perfect night. ♪ we're delivering more happy for the holidays. ♪ go look at the sprinter gene. i wonder if you have it or that's why you didn't make the team. let me pull it up. sprinter... sprinter gene... don't have it. yup, i knew it. let's see. can't run. can't catch. too short. what else does it say?
