any moment president biden will meet with the mexico president on the final day of the apec summit in san francisco. while tensions rise between countries over the record amounts of migrants crossing the southern border, border officials warn mexico has handed over their side of the border to the drug cartels. >> sandra: one issue he is likely to press on, cracking down on deadly fentanyl trafficking, killed more than 70,000 americans last year alone. we are monitoring that meeting for you. we'll bring you the news from it as it comes in. >> john: that may be just the beginning. anti-israel activists calling for a day of action today as anger grows among the democratic base over president biden's support for israel and rejection of a ceasefire in gaza. hello, i'm john roberts in washington. sandra, good to be with you this afternoon. >> sandra: sandra smith in new york. far left protestors from coast to coast are set to take to the streets in what they are calling a shut down for palestine event that could cause major disruptions for the millions of americans set to travel for this thanksgiving. >> john: the protests beginning this morning at the bny melon building in lower manhattan, protestors were harassing employees before police made arrests. >> sandra: breaking news from the protests and the war in the middle east. >> john: alexis mcadams is live outside the new york governor's office in midtown, manhattan. protestors are planned to rally this afternoon. >> it's friday afternoon, right, nypd knows the situation by now, that they have to prepare for the protests and the protestors as they are calling for ceasefire. in manhattan, in front of the governor's office, she might not be there but the protestors will be outside. you see the barricades set up and the officers on standby. there is the buildings, waiting to see some action. this is just 1 of 3 big protests planned in the city tonight alone. the u.s. campaign for palestinian rights says more than 2 million palestinian people have been trapped in gaza to demand an immediate ceasefire, no such thing as two sides to the conflict. last friday we were out here in manhattan walking around the city streets and talking to protestors to find out why they are so passionate about this, sometimes when you go to put them on camera they don't want to talk and their faces are covered, we'll see if we can talk to them later today. but bryant park is the epicenter, and we talk about big amounts of people showing up, starts with a few hundred and goes to thousands. last week they were trying to enter some big buildings here and kicking the doors down or trying to of grand central station. so the police are on stand-by waiting to absentee what will happen. keep you posted. >> john: and sometimes as you put them on camera as we saw in london, they have no idea why they are protesting. >> sandra: nypd beefing up security after a pro palestinian group posted a map pinpointing notable landmarks right here in the big apple. the group alleging the sites are associated with genocide and are calling for direct action. c.b. cotton is live across town from alexis mcadams in new york city, more from her location. what are officials telling you? >> good afternoon, sandra. protestors have been targeting some of the 16 new york city businesses or news organizations being blasted by this pro palestinian group within our lifetime, that says these places are helping commit genocide against the palestinian people. the group within our lifetime says its initial target map was removed by instagram and meta, but is circulating on other places on social media leading to scenes like this. >> you want to be placed under arrest. >> shouting shame as people made their way inside the bank of new york mellon and later people detained by the nypd. protestors popping up at other places targeted by the pro-palestinian group, putting new york city leaders on high alert, a spokesperson writing to be clear threatening businesses and organizations and referring to them as the enemy is the hateful rhetoric that seeks to divide new yorkers. people are calling for a ceasefire, at other people are chanting the phrase from the river to the sea, which has been condemned by many as antisemitic, calling for israel to be wiped off the map entirely. republican congresswoman calling out protestors for not speaking against hamas. listen. >> and i just cannot wrap my head around how people are so obtuse that they cannot bring themselves to recognize the 200 plus hostages, atrocities that have taken place in israel, and yet they want to, at the same time for calling for a genocide of an entire nation, from the river to the sea. >> now, city officials tell us they are monitoring the situation and keeping an eye out for potential threats. sandra. >> sandra: c.b. cotton live here in new york city. >> john: department of education is investigating several universities, including three ivy league schools over recent reports of antisemitic and islam phobic incidents on the campuses. after the biden administration has faced growing criticism from the jewish community over the lack of fighting antisemitic rhetoric. eli, host of the reeducation podcast. great to have you back on again. six colleges and universities and one school district, cornell, columbia, wellsly, uhyphen, lafayette, and mays in kansas. what took so long for the biden administration to initiate this investigation, because in the past they see an issue that aligns with their narrative they jump on it. this took a long time for them to take action. >> you know, i would say this, that i do think that it's deplorable the kind of activities and the double standard exposed since october 7th, especially on the college and university campuses, which will take action against students for the slightest of microaggressions. i think that there are dangers of involving the federal government in this kind of question because the definition of antisemitism at times can be nebulous, even though i don't think we would in any way disagree with some of the incidents on the campuses, and i worry that maybe the best tool right now is what we have already seen, well think alumni, student groups themselves taking on some of these people. so for far too long, you know, the cretins on the campuses have not had a real pushback. i think the majority of americans find their world view and their behavior despicable and time to use our own first amendment speech to counter it. i'm wary of involving the federal government, and say it as a jewish person. >> john: some of the people you describe as cretins are actually teaching. >> they are, they are faculty lounges, absolutely. >> john: they may even have ph.d.. >> more likely to be a cretin if you have a ph.d. >> john: miguel cardona said announcing the investigation, i don't mean to laugh, it's not a laughing matter, it was rather funny what you said. hate has no place in our schools when students are targeted because they are or perceived to be, jewish, muslim, sikh, schools must act for safe educational environments where everyone is free to learn. targeted six universities, and one school district. this is well beyond those. >> who is producing the curricula for middle schools and high schools. who is determining the reading list in the classes. what is this kind of ideology, by the way is intolerant of other views. i'm not calling to necessarily purge, you know, franz fernand from the curriculum, but people who justify horrific violence if it's against the colonial oppressor, they are trying to get rid of the dead white men in the curriculum, it's time to push back and the leaders, presidents of the universities cannot find the sort of fortitude to push back against the faculty at this point, then we might have to start creating new universities or, you know, the value of a harvard diploma at this point, what is it worth if the graduate is going to come into your workplace and try to make their own rules because they don't feel comfortable. >> john: as we saw in the cardona statement, it's all inclusive. it really does begin and almost to some degree end with how jewish students are feeling on campus. >> what is happening on cornell's campus and across universities in this country is not about protecting expressions of free speech or free exchange of ideas. it is about enabling and even promoting intimidation and the threat of harm to jewish students. >> we have had professors on our campus in the past two weeks calling for intifada. >> being a jewish student at nyu is scary. uptick in anti-israel protests that are turning antisemitic. >> john: we saw the video of the jewish student at harvard. >> by the editor of the law review. >> john: one of those people. these universities, woke colleges and universities bend over backwards to create safe spaces and rooms where students can go to cry, yet if you are a jewish student fend for yourself. >> this is the ideology, and i see it all over the jewish community right now. you are finding a kind of reawakening, if you will, from a number of jews who went along with this progressive dei social justice agenda. no more, and they are going to be long-term downstream consequences i think as well. >> john: one last quick question. influence of middle east money that may be, i don't know if it's actually driving some of what we see on campus, but maybe influencing it, for example, qatar, you wrote, in your article, between 2001 and 2021, donated $4.7 billion to colleges, 1.8 billion to cornell, 760 million to georgetown, and northwestern, for a school of journalism by the way. that buys a lot of influence. that kind of money. >> it does. gives the universities a campus in doha, qatar, the prestige of having a satellite campus, a lot of universities are interested in. but in the case of northwestern, you know, they were training al-jazeera journalists. al-jazeera platformed hamas and for decades. based in qatar and funded. it's a problem. >> john: does correlation equal causation. >> the reason you are having this spike in antisemitism and anti-zionism on campus is ideological. article of faith for the same people tell you if you have misgendered someone you have committed a terrible crime. >> john: see you soon. >> sandra: idf continuing its raid of the al-shifa hospital as the ground offensive is moving towards southern gaza. millions in the region under communication blackout with no internet or phone service. trey yingst is live in southern israel for us. what is the latest from there, trey? >> hey, sandra, good afternoon. israeli forces continued to operate inside gaza city, specifically at the al-shifa hospital, released new video today of what they say is part of a tunnel network beneath gaza. and it is critical to note here, this is the only video they have released of tunnels so far. they say there is a larger complex that will be revealed but we have not yet seen any further evidence to support those claims. and released video showing weapons they say were recovered at shifa hospital. earlier this week we were with the israelis less than 24 hours after they conducted their initial raid at the hospital compound inside an mri room. they showed us what they say are weapons that were stashed by hamas. no way to independently verify if, when, how, and where they were found but the israelis say they were found in the hospital. we did pose this question to hamas, a senior official sending a text denying any weapons were stored in the hospital and comes as israeli forces go through buildings as there are still patients being treated there. they overnight found the bodies of two hostages that were dragged into gaza during the massacre on october 7, 1 a woman from a small community that sits near the gaza border in her mid 60s, she was a cancer patient, and she was slaughtered. her body recovered by the israelis, additionally, a 19-year-old israeli soldier that according to hamas was killed in an israeli airstrike. i'm going to toss back to you. we understand you have breaking news here. >> sandra: we do, thank you. back to you shortly. president biden now in the bilat with the mexican leader. let's listen. >> heart of the los angeles declaration of migration and protection, and we and 19 other nations signed on. increasing reparations and opening historic number of legal pathways for migrants. i want to thank you again all the things that are a consequence to us. i couldn't have a better partner than you, thank you. >> voice of translator: we are highly satisfied of joining you here in san francisco and have the opportunity to meet president biden anew. the relation between our countries is excellent. our people are friends. this is respectful and cooperative relationship for development. in recent years basically due to this great relationship we have with our neighboring and brother country we are commercial partners. we are the main trade partners in the world, which is outstanding. at the same time there are around 40 million mexicans working and living with decency in the united states which strengthens our bonds and of course progress needs to be made, further progress needs to be made to address the migratory phenomenon. we are working on that jointly in coordination and we wish to thank president biden because he is the first president in recent times opening legal pathways for migration. in the past there were no possibilities for people who needed to come to the united states. there were no legal possibilities open and it is president biden who opened up this possibility upon request placed by central america and the caribbean countries. they follow the petition and after an assessment is made they are allowed to enter the united states which means that they no longer have to cross our country with all the suffering and risks such it poses. it's a humane way to address the migratory phenomenon and i would also like to express and to state that he is the first president in the united states in recent times who has not built walls. it is true. and we need to continue to support one another so migration is an option and not enforced. the first two assist the people in our countries of origin when they are forced to migrate. we are fully satisfied in holding this meeting and as regards to drug control, mexico's undertaking is to continue to support so we do not allow the introduction of chemical components and chemical precursors to fentanyl because we are fully aware of the damage it poses to the united states youth. this is a matter of humanism. it's an act of solidarity. we are sincerely committed to assist at our fullest capacity to prevent drug trafficking, namely the entrance of fentanyl and other chemical precursors. i'm pretty certain that we will continue to evolve a good relationship and i would like to also take this opportunity to greet our pizanos, the mexican migrants who are living, making a life and working in the united states. around 40 million people have made the united states their second home, their second country, and i would also like to inform those who may not be aware of this that in recent years there are many american citizens who are moving to mexico to stay there, to live in mexico, so welcome, because we are brotherly countries. thank you. this is what i wanted to say as well as that we have a great relationship and you have an extraordinary president in the united states. a man with convictions. a man, a good man. >> sandra: so, we waited there, hung on a bit to see if any questions would be taken by the two leaders. the mexican president and the u.s. president in a bilateral meeting there, multiple occasions the president's mexican counterpart praising him for his work, talking about their great relationship, saying he is the first, biden the first u.s. president in recent times who has not built walls, said the mexican president, john. >> john: well, that's pretty clear in the fact that 2.47 million people came across the southern border in the last fiscal year, 46,000 got-aways since october 1st, and 100,000 people in this country died last year from fentanyl poisoning. there's an awful lot of cross border traffic and while there is a very close relationship between the united states and mexico, and the economic activity between the two countries is on par with being among first in the world. there are a lot of issues that desperately need addressing and we can only hope they will be addressed in this bilateral meeting. >> sandra: we'll be monitoring that, charles payne, you had a running commentary while that was happening. what were your thoughts? >> the first part, he brought up the 40 million mexicans in america. >> sandra: living and working in america at which time he said that is why it is necessary we strengthen our bond. >> right. listen, i think right now they are on a run rate of $62 billion being remitted from america to mexico. it is a very, very good relationship for mexico and as far as complimenting president biden on his border policies, listen, we know president trump laid in heavy on mexico, but it worked. they sent troops to their border and brought this illegal entry into our country, made it a nonissue for a long time and we could have probably built a wall or done something more important to stem the tide now. when mexico gets the green light to look the other way, the only one who suffers the consequence is america. look what happened here. we have to cut our police force in new york city because of this, right. this is a national issue. it was always a national issue and brought up the fentanyl just like president xi brought up fentanyl, all lip service, all lip service and i will say one thing, mexico is benefitting huge from this on-shoring movement, re-shoring movement for the last five years. it is amazing how much they are benefitted. proximity to america but the ability to have a less expensive workforce, right now the greatest beneficiary the fact that americans are moving businesses out of china, away from china, vietnam benefits, mexico probably more. >> sandra: all this while there are more and more americans not happy with the way their financial situation is going in this country, brand-new fox polling on the screen, when asked about the condition of the economy, 78% of registered voters rate it only fair or poor, eight in ten, when the president has doubled down on economic policies touting bidenomics. >> he understands why the people don't know they are going great, 20/80% is a reflection of what's happening here. all the money has gone to the top 10, 20% of people in the country, everyone has to suffer. cpi report, inflation report the other day a little bit -- a little less than expected, here is what was not less. car insurance up 19%. car repairs up 10%, transportation inflation up 9%. rent inflation up 7%. homeowner inflation up at 7%. food away from home inflation up 5%. cereal and bakery products up 4%. these are everyday items, everyday items that the average american, 78%, what they are living with. yesterday walmart reported earnings but said something else, they brought up the word deinflation, or the fact that prices are going down. as bad as inflation is, if we ever alert to a deflaation death spiral, and prices come down for all of us. but beyond that, it's really bad. and the chief investment officer there said how much it's changed in the last 90 days. >> sandra: for the consumer behavior. >> consumer behavior, the last 90 days alone. says to me that some of my greatest fears the fed has gone too far. unfortunately, they have to go too far because of fiscal policies are pumping money into the economy. >> sandra: it did reveal, that consumers are still spending but buying more of what they need rather than what they want. >> nondiscretionary. and cheaper versions as well. >> sandra: some
