congress at a hearing yesterday. he said agents are recording an average of 6,500 apprehensions per day of people illegally coming into the united states. here is republican senator ron johnson. >> we cannot get secretary mayokas to say that's a crisis. won't even say it's a problem. he calls it a challenge. i noted in the number of your testimonies you kept talking about efficiency. sitting here in this sedate hearing setting you almost seem like we've got this under control. this is completely out of control, isn't it? >> harris: just when the border state of texas was finding ways to stem the crushing tide of humanity and illegal drugs, a federal judge has ordered governor greg abbott to remove the floating barriers in the rio grande. a headline, judge orders texas to weaken border security per the biden administration's request. another headline. blue state migrant crisis sparks political disaster for biden. democrat strongholds like massachusetts, chicago, washington, d.c., new york, overwhelmed and out of resources. new york city's mayor, eric adams, says 110,000 illegal immigrants have arrived in his city in the past year. here is the mayor. >> i don't see an ending to this. this issue will destroy new york city. destroy new york city. we're getting 10,000 migrants a month. every community in this city is going to be impacted. the city we knew we're about to lose. >> harris: well, that's not a surprise. i don't know why he acts surprised. in "focus" republican senator ted cruz from the border state of texas. first bryan llenas in new york city. >> good afternoon. at a town hall yesterday new york city mayor eric adams said the city's migrant crisis is a national crisis and once again criticized the biden administration for not providing any support. at multiple events yesterday, mayor adams ultimately said he blames republican texas governor greg abbott and former president trump for the crisis. >> we turned this city around in 20 months. then what happened? start evidence with a mad man down in texas deciding he wanted to bus people up to new york city. trump republicans created this mess and we need to fix this mess with real immigration reform. >> more than 110,000 illegal immigrants have arrived in new york city since april of last year. but according to governor abbott, about 13,000 or just 12% of that total were bused by his administration up to new york city. republicans like former new york congressman lee zeldin responded to adam's attacks posting no one is more guilty for the looming destruction of new york city than biden noting how the administration's policy decision, stopping the construction of the border wall, are to blame. it is not just new york city. chicago is running out of space to house thousands of migrants, too. nearly 200 are being moved into a hostile in the greek town neighborhood there leaving residents asking questions with no clearances at a meeting last night. >> i mean, the number of people who want to come here is infinite. how do you manage this influx? >> what happens when we start seeing them fill up the streets and all the businesses in that neighborhood are suffering? >> back here in new york city, it is the first day of school, thousands of migrants will be put in those schools. it is a burden on this school system, harris, which is already dealing with the fact that 51% of students are not able to read at grade level. >> harris: there is more to it than that. i want to get into that if you can stay with me for just a moment. something i want the audience to see and we'll roll that now. >> parents are concerned. they want children to follow the same rules as others. migrant children are being given a 30 day grace period to get crucial vaccinations, measles, mumps and small box. they want to know on day one everyone is safe. >> harris: the department of education handed out a brief memo instructing administrators on how to deal with the influx telling teachers it is now their responsibility to find teachers to communicate with those language issues that you mentioned, bryan. they are on their own when it comes to getting supplies. the "new york post" cover with this headline. kicked in the ed. obviously, you know, making fun of the mayor's response to all of this. and the "new york post" also was giving reports to some of those immunization troubles. you already talked about the kids in school. this is a deeper situation. many of them have only gotten half of what they need, if any at all. >> yeah, it is a good point on the immunizations. i will have to get back to you on the details of that. what i can tell you, harris, chancellor banks, in charge of this school system. he spoke yesterday and said ultimately look, we've got this under control when it comes to the school system and the migrant situation. 21,000 migrant kids is not chaotic. we've already had 18,000 in the system. we can handle this. he also said they have hundreds of teachers who are willing to provide bilingual education. what you get here is ultimately at what cost? really the reality is the city says it will cost $12 billion over the next three years and you had residents at that town hall last night who were concerned about the quality of life. not only about the shelters opening up in their neighborhoods, but what about their kids? when i asked the mayor a couple of weeks ago about the compassionate thing to do, he said ultimately they will never say no to these migrants. harris. >> harris: wow. look, they put out the shingle as a sanctuary city off the top of the hour. this is not a shock. these people were going to places where they thought they would get what they would need based on what those cities advertised about giving them what they would need. this is what you get. if the mayor hasn't prepared, he could look in the mirror as well. that would help him out. he is pointing his finger to republicans. one of those republicans will be on the program this hour. senator ted cruz from the border state of texas. bryan llenas, great reporting. thank you for the extra time. president biden has taken another shot in his war on energy. he is canceling the remaining seven trump era oil and gas leases in alaska's federal wildlife refuge. ramaswamy was on the "focus" yesterday with this advice to biden, struggling with the economy. >> drill, frack, burn coal, and embrace nuclear, unlock american energy production. rescind a majority of unconstitutional federal regulations that act like a wet blanket on the u.s. economy. that's how we fight inflation. it is also how we deliver economic growth. we're proud of a country when we're making more country in a country. i know how to deliver that. it's one of the keys to our national revival. >> harris: the drilling lease cancellations come as gas prices are ticking back up. the national average at $3.80 far off the all-time high of more than $5 average in june of last year. you know if you live in some of those cities where it was north of $6 and $7 a gallon how painful this has been under this president. still more than 1.40 above what it was when he first took office. so it is slow to come back down and stay there. a new op-ed notes the president's approval ratings are closely tied to gas prices, quote, last june when average spiked to more than $5 a gallon bidens approval rating fell. when it alleviated. approval ratings began trending up. not back to where he would want them to be but not moving negatively. edward lawrence is at the white house. he has tapped and tapped and tapped our oil reserves. he doesn't have much room left. and november of 2024 will be here before you know it. >> to your point, the people -- all people feel the gas prices. many can't afford an electric car quite frankly. the movement in alaska is another signal by this administration not to invest in the oil and natural gas industry. that message is being heard in terms of higher prices. this move to cancel those last seven leases you are talking about in the national -- ban drilling in the arctic national wildlife refuge will limit the future supply of oil. we see that reaction. gas prices a full $1.40 more than when president biden came into office. now we are paying more than we did one year ago. >> you add up the cumulative effect of all the biden administration's actions, i think you do have a negative effect on oil prices. we see prices going higher. so it is not only a local jobs and economic development issue, but it is also a national energy security issue. >> his group lost the leases. no oil is being drilled in that part of alaska yet. estimates show 7 to 8 billion barrels ready to be tapped with current usage could supply the entire globe for the next 77 days. the alaska industrial development and export authority plans to sue the administration. in the process get discovery what it calls a coordinated effort against the fossil fuel industry and depose the interior secretary. administration argues the forced transition will be energy independence eventually. >> want to thank, of course, our nation's champion, president biden, for your leadership and commitment to lowering costs for working families in every way. and thank you to all of the members of congress for the work that you have done and continue to do to help us achieve this type of progress. >> president biden off to the g-20 later today. his climate agenda is at the top of the priority there. >> harris: thank you so much. i want to go back to the border crisis. we've been able to pull in senator ted cruz, republican from texas, i know i don't have you for long. senator, first of all, when you hear eric adams here in new york, the mayor, and other democrat-led city leaders saying they're feeling the pain and we're a sanctuary city but, but, but, what do you say? >> it really is astonishing hypocrisy. you have eric adams, the governor of new york, the governor of massachusetts, you have the mayor of washington, d.c., the mayor of chicago, the mayor of san francisco all of them are discovering the burdens of joe biden's open borders and illegal immigration. they are seeing thousands or tens of thousands or even hundreds of thousands of illegal immigrants and they are discovering it drives up crime rates, it drives up -- it drives up the burdens on the city and overcrowds the schools, overcrowds the hospitals. and i have to say coming from texas, it is amusing. we have had 7 million illegal immigrants under joe biden. so seeing eric adams complain about 100,000 is cute but he still doesn't bother to put the blame where it belongs. this is a political decision by joe biden, by kamala harris and by the way by chuck schumer. if eric adams wants to talk to someone chuck schumer lives in new york city. he says illegal immigration is destroying new york city. he could pick up the phone and tell chuck schumer to stop fighting for open borders and stop protecting the biden administration as they lawlessly opened the borders. >> harris: talk to me on the focus of the dissolution, the deg regags in new york, that focus was never on texas. you didn't hear governor greg abbott. i have interviewed you, him, others from that beautiful state where i have family many times have heard how they are crushed under the weight of illegals coming across the border but no one ever says it will change us to the point where we cease to exist. is that desperation or true coming out of the city's mayor? how bad do you think it will get for them? they aren't handling it well. >> i think it's both and it is utter hypocrisy at the same time. the order of magnitude is really different. listen, this was stark last year. you look at a community like martha's vineyard. it has a population between 20 and 30,000 people. and when governor ron desantis sent 50 illegal immigrants to martha's vineyard they freaked out. called in the national guard and deported them within 24 hours. to put that in comparison i want you to compare it another town the same size as marta's vineyard. del rio, texas. it has a population of 30,000 people on the rio grande river. i was there in del rio when on one single day there were between 10 and 15,000 illegal immigrants in a single day, 50% of the population of del rio all gathered under a bridge right there invading the city. martha's vineyard says 50 is an emergency. eric adams says in new york city 100,000 is an emergency. we've got texas towns where half the population is coming in illegally and yet the democrats still refuse to do anything about it today. joe biden is releasing more illegal immigrants, is enriching more human traffickers, allowing more and more illegal drugs and fentanyl to flood across the border that is killing americans across our country. >> harris: wow, senator i'm glad you are with us. i will get to this now because we just found out about the court documents. the sweetheart deal is gone. it shows david weiss is planning to indict president biden'sson on gun charges. everyone will recall the original agreement to keep hunter out of jail was rejected by a judge in july. they had to go back to the drawing board with the plea deal. james comer expanded his national archives request and wants the unredacted versions of already obtained emails along with all executive calendars created for then vice president biden. let's watch. >> what joe biden has always said and the mainstream media went along with. why are you investigating hunter biden? he wasn't a part of the government. joe biden had a firewall between the government and his son. that's not true. there are emails that went back and forth where hunter's legal team was telling joe biden about how to spin the narrative. copies where he was copied about ukraine foreign policy and we believe there are many more emails that the national archives is sitting on. >> harris: the white house spokesman had something to say. his response. if it's a day that ends in y james comer is lying about president biden all wasting time and taxpayer resources on an evidence-free wild goose chase. let's go back to senator cruz. is that what this is or are the democrats in a position they weren't ready to be in? >> it really is stunning to see the white house d-- this latest indictment is not a surprise. it is completely expected. unfortunately it is part of a pattern. as you know, i do every week a podcast. it is called verdict with ted cruz. every monday, wednesday, friday, we break through the specific evidence and walk through the specific evidence of corruption by joe biden and hunter biden. we walk through what much of the corporate media will not cover. what i said a year ago on the verdict podcast. if the biden d.o.j. goes after hunter biden and bring a gun charge or a drug charge or a tax charge that is limited just to hunter biden's own conduct it is important to understand what that is. the biden administration wants to give hunter biden a slap on the wrist and have him be the scapegoat. the objective of the biden department of justice is to protect joe biden. harris, look, the reason we're talking about this, the reason this matters, it is not hunter, not that he is a troubled soul with substance abuse problems. that would not be a matter of public concern. what makes this a matter of public concern is the central allegations against hunter biden is that he sold for millions of dollars favors from his father, from joe biden, to foreign oligarchs, ukrainian, russian and senior chinese communist officials and that joe biden solicited and received millions of dollars of bribes in exchange for official government favors and decisions. that is serious corruption and what d.o.j. is trying to do here is cover up and protect joe biden by making hunter a scapegoat and giving him a slap on the wrist. >> harris: that's what makes it a national security issue. so glad you could be with me in "focus." thank you for your time. growing concerns about vice president kamala harris possibly following in the footsteps of her boss. >> our nation's commander-in-chief, the leader of the free world, has to be very clear and very precise. that has been a problem with this administration and even more pronounced with the vice president. >> harris: well, what the v.p. said to illicit all of that when she was pressed about her readiness to be president. power panel with me in studio next. i suffer with psoriatic arthritis and psoriasis. i was on a journey for a really long time to find some relief. cosentyx works for me. cosentyx helps real people get real relief from the symptoms of psoriatic arthritis or psoriasis. serious allergic reactions and an increased risk of infections or lowered ability to fight them may occur. tell your doctor if you have an infection or symptoms, had a vaccine or plan to or if ibd symptoms develop or worsen. i move so much better because of cosentyx. ask your rheumatologist about cosentyx. are you a veteran, own a home and need money for your family?
