that breaking news out of the capital and the attempted carjacking of a secret service vehicle happening last night in georgetown. agents protecting the president's granddaughter opened fire thwarting the carjacking. details coming right up. striking back with deadly force, the u.s. launching new air strikes of proxies in syria. asme owe dana perino. bill is off today. hi, mike. >> mike: i'm mike emanuel. "america's newsroom." sources say one of the american strikes killed at least half a dozen iranian-backed fighter after a flurry of attacks against american troops throughout the region. >> dana: coinciding with israel's war on hamas. they continue to hunt the terrorists in gaza and fending off strikes from lebanon where the iranian-back terrorists of hezbollah have become increasingly active. >> mike: general jack keane analysis but alex hogan is live from northern israel where fighting is on the rise. >> major escalation here in the northern part of israel. the sound of artillery and drones is constant. we can hear some machine gunfire far in the distance. it was yesterday, sunday, it was the most active day of fighting we've seen since the beginning of the war. 21 people wounded including soldiers and civilians. >> attacks and retaliation has increased in the past few days. >> israeli military in northern israel this was just -- now this is used as an idf base targeting hezbollah sites on the other side of the hill behind me in lebanon where it will continue to put pressure on israel using new ammunition and weapons. idf here says it is ready to respond in the event of any continued strikes. >> as long as they keep quiet on the other side, we'll keep quiet here. >> with hezbollah's use of advanced long range missiles the idf fortified border with the largest military presence here in nearly two decades. looking south israeli forces today have reached the gates of gaza's main hospital. the idf says this area, because of the underground tunnels, is a hamas stronghold and key to their goal of taking control of northern gaza. the world health organization warns that the major hospital there has been without electricity or water for three days. that means no power for incubators. workers say 32 patients have died including three nicu babies. the israeli government says it is attempting to help rescue some of those babies and bring them out. help the hospital denies is happening. >> mike: alex, many thanks. >> dana: more with general jack keane, strategic analyst. can we talk about the northern border there? just last week the head of hezbollah seemed to say that they were staying out of it. are they? >> well, i think he is threatening the use of force. he doesn't appear all that committed to the use of it. i don't think he is the decision maker anyway. i believe the supreme leader in iran really will call the shot here. what they're trying to do by conducting limited measured attacks on troops in northern israel is to tie up as much of the idf in the north as possible so that they're not deployed in the south and why hamas has been encouraging hezbollah. they want them to do more than that. what hezbollah really has and where they would have something of an advantage is the 130,000 rockets and missiles that have a greater range, more precision and more lethalality than hamas. they could reach every city in israel. israelis would respond significantly with air power. if they couldn't stop it and the casualties were unacceptable, only then would they ask the united states to get involved. we would get involved with our air power only. it would be quite effective. that's what's potentially in the offing. >> dana: could you speak to us about the air strikes that killed some iranian proxies yesterday in syria? >> well, the focus certainly changed. this is the third strike and this time the focus was on people. a training center and safe house where people were in there. and as opposed to weapons and ammunition and storage sites in the last two. i don't know if it's going to be effective. i would want it to be effective as everybody does. my sense is it will not be because it is not comprehensive enough dealing with the proxies themselves. go after the leaders, go after the fighters, go after the rockets, missiles, drones, go after all the infrastructure. do it all at once in one night. that's well within u.s. strike capability. no risk to a single pilot in doing that. that, i think, may get their attention. but still, i think you have to tell the iranians and give them a warning and hold the irgc at risk who is superviseor, directing, and supporting all these operations with hamas, hezbollah, with the houthis and also with these iranian and syrian proxies that are attacking the united states. and remember, iran is trying to send a message here to the allies in the region. the united states can't protect its own bases what makes you think they'll protect you. we should not let the message stand, frankly. and put the assets in iran that the irgc owns. we had two presidents that broke the code here. reagan under attack in the persian gulf, u.s. capability, our allies capability and the flow of oil. he attacked iran's oil platforms and irgc bases and they shut him down. president trump attacked solomony by the same prox less attacking us now and went after the leader of the force and killed him. they did respond militarily as they would in this case but most of our judgments are they would eventually shut down because of fear of direct conflict with the united states. >> dana: let me also ask you one last question about this hospital. this is in gaza, the idf maintains this is where underneath the hospital is where hamas has its headquarters. we are seeing some images that are very troubling. you have little babies that are at this hospital. israel is doing pauses to help get people out of the area. they are in a war. what should the idf be thinking about right now as it plans to go in? they want to eradicate hamas but hamas puts itself underneath innocent civilians. >> how diabolical and sinister is all this and certainly they want all those film of what's taking place in that hospital out there in the public media certainly as propaganda tools. your heart goes out to what is taking place and the suffering. all the suffering is caused by who? the leaders have set up their major command and control facility where they direct their operations underneath a hospital. the israelis have evidence of it. they have visual evidence of it and audio evidence of it. the united states supports that from our own intelligence services, by way. this should no longer be in dispute. obviously hamas is lying when they are denying its existence. the israelis do not want to go into that hospital and have to fight in that complex. they are trying to force, certainly, hamas to get out of there. and that's why there hasn't been an operation directly conducted in it. at some it is likely some kind of military operation may indeed have to be conducted underneath the hospital to get these folks out of here. remember, the hostages, they've got these hostages for a purpose. one, to protect the regime leaders at the end of the day. two, to get israel out of gaza at the end of the day to keep some hostages to do that. but also to get a cease-fire. whether there will be a play here protect themselves remains to be seen. given the focus at the hospital now by the israelis i doubt seriously if the hamas leaders running this operation are still there. if israel has managed a it is indicating to surround the place. they are in the business of self-preservation first and they're likely some place else. it doesn't diminish the significance of taking down a command and control facility certainly. that's directing the operations in gaza for hamas, it is something that needs to be done. >> dana: general jack keane, thank you for kicking us off on this monday. appreciate it. and over the weekend, i had a conversation i haven't been able to stop thinking about on israel's fight for survival and dan's own personal reflections. you can listen to it now on the fox news rundown podcast. >> if you ever want to love your country more, run for president. i love america more today than i had on may 22. but when i go back to iowa, it will not be as a presidential candidate. i am suspending my campaign. i think the voters who are the most remarkable people on the planet have been really clear that they are telling me not now, tim. >> mike: senator scott's announcement shocked even his own campaign staff. after he dropped out of the gop presidential race he refused to endorse any of his competitors. david spunt is live in washington. good morning, david. >> good morning. it shocked trey gowdy, too, the host of the program last night. tim scott will still watch from the sidelines, he says, to help turn something bad into something good. >> the voters are smart. they are savvy. and i think what our country is going through right now is a very challenging time. and our goal should be to unite this country and not take advantage of the divisions of this country. >> scott ran his campaign as a positive beacon aiming to stay above the food fights on the debate stage. someone who wanted to restore true optimism to the white house. it came as a surprise not only to us in the news media but even members of his campaign staff who reportedly sent out a fundraising email shortly before the event. when asked if he would consider the number two spot as vice president he said this. >> being vice president has never been on my to do list. for this campaign and certainly not there now. i look forward to keeping to working hard to make sure that in the future i can continue to win the respect and admiration of voters. >> scott did not say who he plans to endorse telling people to instead do their homework, do some research on different candidates. the best way for him to be helpful, mike, is not to endorse someone. interesting to hear that rhetoric. usually people endorse right away but making it clear now he doesn't seem like he will endorse at all. >> mike: there is only one candidate from south carolina now. david spunt, thank you very much. >> dana: great to have him on. internal dissent memo exposing the white house divisions on israel. the document accusing the president of spreading misinformation. plus this. >> are you okay?
