Switch today the heroic dr. Anthony fauci gets tonights last word. The 11th Hour with Stephanie Ruhle starts now. Tonight, the Harris Campaign launches a Media Blitz as trump ramps up angry rhetoric less than a month from election day. A powerful hurricane threatening florida again less than two weeks after healing. The rush to repair as public officials battle. And morning those lost and still missing one year since the terrific hammer horrific Terror Attack on israel as the 11th Hour gets underway on this monday night. Once again, i am Stephanie Ruhle. We are now 29 days away from election day. Today was a day of mourning. It has been one year since the October 7th terrorist attack on israel. At the White House, president Joe Biden held a Candle Lighting Ceremony to remember the victims and reaffirm support for israel. Vice president harris repeated the commitment to securing a Ceasefire Deal and the release of israeli hostages. The latest on the conflict later this hour. Meanwhile, the 2024 candidates have less than one month to get their message out. The Harris Wealth Campaign launched a Media Blitz over the weekend with an interview with Vice President harris on the podcast call her daddy and a sitdown 60 minutes. One of the ways we know we can uplift the ability of women to have choices is uplift the ability of women to have economic health and wellbeing. When you invest in small businesses, you invest in the middle class. And you strengthen americas economy. Small businesses are part of the backbone of americas economy. The question was, how are you going to pay for it . Im going to make sure that the richest among us who can afford it pay their fair share in taxes. It is just the beginning of a slate of scheduled fit downs the Campaign Hopes will get them in front of more voters even as republicans continue to criticize them for avoiding the press. Donald trumps angry rhetoric is only intensifying. Over the weekend, the former president lied again, suggesting that democrats tried to kill him and that they are cheating in this election. With that, lets get smarter with the help of our panel. Peter baker, chief white House Correspondent for the New York times. Susan glasser, Staff Writer for the New Yorker. And Mark Leibovitz for Staff Writer for the atlantic who has no relation to susan or peter. Peter, you can go first. I interviewed Vp Harris for 25 minutes a week and a half ago on the economy. Her campaign promised that she would be getting out. Here she is. What is the strategy . Look them they feel like they have to exit up a little bit. The Rally Stage Committee summer of joy has worked itself through and gotten as far itself as it can get. They need to mix it up taken to see if they can earn some votes. One way you do it is by making the story fresh. By doing interviews, having conversations, by attracting voters who may be turning in now to pay attention to the campaign. Theyve got a few weeks left, theyve got 29 days to make the difference. Really a very small number of people they have left. Many of them are not as tough as you are, a lot of them are going to be friendly interviewers. And our legitimate journalists. Just mixing it up between those and the ones where they feel like they can have interactions. More friendly and perhaps fun for the audience. She has to answer tough questions and i think she wants to show she is not afraid of tough questions. Lets stick with that. She was criticized for not doing interviews, now she is criticized that they are too friendly. The goalpost keeps moving for her. Is there some thing she can do to make them stop . Or hoping more exposure will mean she will flip up and make a mistake . 29 days out, of course the other side is rooting for her. To make a mistake and screwup. There is no obvious what the campaigns are calling Tent Pole moments left. One of the reasons that harris has to go out and do all these interviews is because there is no more debates. Donald trump has not accepted, she has accepted the proposal to do a debate between the two of them. Trump is refusing to do that. After the debate last week, there is no other obvious moment of sort of convening a massive audience. Their hope was that 60 minutes as a very highly rated News Program would be the opportunity to do that. Donald trump backed out of his own 60 Minutes Interview. So if you are looking for a contrast, thats a pretty sharp contrast that harris was willing to sit down and Donald Trump was not. They did have a blistering introduction in which they pointed that fact out. And that Donald Trump not only refused to do the interview but was lying to 60 minutes itself about what he claimed they had done to him in their 2016 interview. A vintage moment, really. Lets talk about the comparison. Trump canceled on 60 minutes, refused to do another debate. Every single day since i sat down with Vp Harris, i have asked the Trump Campaign, would you sit down . Same rules, one topic veered the economy. He is not doing any of those things. He is going on Fox News and ultra friendly podcasts to promote his campaign and businesses. Are they really in a position to criticize . Of course not. And Donald Trump is running a base campaign. In terms of going after the supporters who have been with him for a long time. It doesnt look like he has a lot of room to grow or cares that much. Kamala harris is a relatively new candidate and does have room to grow. And i do think to Susans Point earlier, the work that 60 minutes did, the take away from the 60 Minutes Interview was the anchor , scott pelley. Not just sort of we asked the Trump Campaign to appear and they said no. He actually, like you said, they went the full nine yards. Talked about the lies, called him out and it really did paint a very, very poignant picture especially in contrast between the candidates but also when you consider the debate at this point. It doesnt look like they will be on the same schedule. Can we go back to this idea that she is feeling criticized that she is only doing friendly interviews . Isnt the difference that Donald Trump is giving journalists lie after lie after lie . That we are in a position to Fact Check every single day . You can ask Kamala Harris a question and not like her answer and feel like she is eking in platitudes and you are not up for that policy. But its not about whether or not you like the policy. When it comes to Donald Trump, he is lying. Your reporting talks about the clear decline he is in, the differences he shows as a Candidate Today versus even a year ago or two years ago. Thats why it is striking when they say she is not willing to take questions and they take questions but they you are not allowed to Fact Check me. I can say anything i want and you are not allowed to point out any contrary information or facts. You know, you are right about that. He has mainly stuck to friendly interviews himself. Conservative media, friendly media. People who are openly on his side. Who are participating in the campaign in some way or another. And i think that is a contrast. But you are right to say he is called out on telling things that are not true, that are false information and doesnt seem to be moving the needle. We did a Fax Check on him a couple weeks back. A typical Trump Rally. And a typical harris rally. What were the statements made to be called false or misleading . His number was like 63 in a single rally. Hers was like six. So 10 times as much. Not that she doesnt say things as any politician does that arent true or misleading, but the proportion is obviously very striking. It is something we see more and more. We can talk about the story about his age if you want. But any kind of analysis of things have changed, he is increasingly willing to say things that are so detached from reality like the cats and dogs being eaten. He doesnt seem to be against him. It is not our job to call out whether we like her policies or answers. It is our job to call out lies. You said it right there, 60 six. There is a difference. I also want to play some of the lies he has played this weekend. Over the past eight years, those who want to stop us from achieving the future have slandered me, impeached me, indicted me, tried to throw me off the ballot. And who knows, maybe even tried to kill me. They are going to cheat, that is all they want to do is cheat. When you see this, its the only way they are going to win and we cant let that happen. And we cant let it happen again. Susan, it was peters word that he said much of what he is saying is increasingly angry and rambling. Donald trumps age was never really called into question when he was running against Joe Biden. Will it be more in focus now that he is running against Kamala Harris . And is not the Donald Trump we thought a couple years ago. No. Lets be clear, first of all, that trump would be the oldest man ever to serve as president if he served the next four years, oldest ever to be elected as president and take it. Well into his 80s and a moment in time when you can chart them as peter has done in his reporting and others have done, the very clear downward trajectory of trump. This is very noticeable. Go back and look at him campaigning in 2016 and you will see a different person. One number that really stuck out to me in Peters Story was that the average length of time in a Trump Rally has nearly doubled. It is over 80 minutes. He is talking and talking and talking to the point of, does it seem like he is randomly rambling . Yes, the answer is yes. This is in every possible way a man unwilling to relinquish the stage. Literally linguist the stage in his rallies and of course you for a weekly as well. Elon musk is Donald Trumps newest surrogate, we saw them together at a rally this weekend. This is no ordinary election. The other side wants to take away your freedom of speech. They want to take away your right to bear arms. They want to take away your right to vote. They want to take away your right to vote . That is not true. A lot of people are going to believe it. It is coming from Elon Musk. One of the most successful businessman on the planet. How worried does that make you, mark . Its obviously worrisome. And a lie. In the real world, are there actually people sitting out there that are going to look to this guy, who has presented himself as a clown at this event, jumping around on the stage. Is that actually a compelling Strategy Laterally . Maybe. Trump obviously love celebrity, reveres wealth and Elon Musk has a great deal of power in a pretty confined but ultimately very influential Media Space in twitter. It is hard to know what we are seeing now, how that translates into the real world of politics. How people make Voting Decisions and so forth. I am dubious there are actually people out there who might be persuaded to vote for this guy because of the guy behind him jumping around on the stage. Who knows. Musk has power in other spheres as well. Donald trump has said he wants Elon Musk to run a government efficiency commission. Which in theory, lots of americans agree with. Lots of americans think the government is too big and spends too much money. But trump and Elon Musk are leaving out a really important fact. That unlike most americans that are sick of government spending, Elon Musk has billions of Dollars Worth of government contracts. How does that square . Of course. One of the most successful businessman of our generation, thats true. One of the reasons why is because he is getting billions of dollars from the u. S. Government. Nasa pays him to launch astronauts, to launch crews and cargo to the space station. He is a federal contractor. And of course, he has interest in who is in the Oval Office and the person in the Oval Office has an interest in Elon Musk being supportive. So you are absolutely right that these are not disinterested parties here who have no particular stake in this. So it raises all kinds of questions. If he really does win, its hard to imagine going too far. We have seen 1 Million commissions that were more serious than that. But it will raise questions about conflict of interest. And once again, when Donald Trump talks about how Kamala Harris is a communist or marxist, what he likes to do is pick winners and losers in the marketplace. That is something he did in his term. When he talks about letting capitalism, he is talking about his friends and people who support him having all the advantages of and punishing those he thinks our enemies. If Donald Trump is elected and goes big on tariffs, its another way to pick big winners and big losers. Thank you all for starting us off on a big night like tonight. When we return, we will all Take A Deep Breath because it has been one year since the hamas terrorists killed more than 1000 in israel. And took 250 hostages. We reflect with a survivor and former colleague is also a Family Member of some hostages. Later, i speak with a former Homeland Security Official about how the former president used to politicize natural disasters and is trying to do it again. The 11th Hour just getting underway on a very important monday night. Monday night. voltaren. For long lasting arthritis pain relief. man look at this silly little sailboat. These men of means with their silver spoons, pain relief. Eating up the financial favors of the 1 . What would become of them when they discover robinhood gold allows others to earn their very liberal rates on idle cash, unlimited Deposit Bonuses and handsome Retirement Matching . They would descend into chaos. Merciless chaos. It has been one year since hamas brutally attacked israel, killing more than 1000 people and taking hundreds more hostage. My colleague has the latest from israel. A nation still reeling in grief my thousands gathering at the site of the nova music festival. One year to the minute that the Terror Attack began. This is the last track that played before the music stopped and the shooting started. Of the 1200 people massacred by hamas on October 7th, nearly a third were killed here. Executed on the Festival Grounds or gunned down trying to escape. We first visited the site five days after the attack. Scattered belongings, the debris of lives cut short. This was a place of music, joy, dancing and now there is just a deathly silence. One year later, returning to the place where her Little Brother was murdered. A musician with big dreams, he was killed weeks before his 23rd birthday. What would you tell him . That i love him and i miss him so much. I just want to hug him and listen to his voice again. Amid the bloodshed, 251 people taken hostage. 101 remain in captivity. Including seven americans. The youngest hostages nine months old on October 7th and his brother unaccounted for. Their fate unknown. Israel fighting back against not just hamas and gaza but also Hezbollah And Lebanon and their backers, iran. The u. S. Supplying israel with weapons but also trying and failing to secure a ceasefire. The war that started on October 7th now a deadly regional conflict. In gaza today, no memorials. Palestinian families just hoping to survive. In Israels Effort to destroy hamas, it has killed 41,000 gazans according to the hamas industry. Responsible for her eight grandchildren. Their father were both killed in an israeli strike. I cannot bear their loss, she says. But caring for children trapped in a yearlong war that feels like it may never end. I am honored to have natalie here tonight, a survivor of the attack. My dear friend and former Colleague Martin Fletcher in tel aviv. We spoke to them both on this show after the attack last year. Natalie, it was exactly one year ago you were at that music festival. You ran for hours and hours until a stranger helped you to safety and help you make it back to New York. How did it feel home one year later . You know, there is a quote i said about a year ago that to me was not significant. But to the person interviewing me was significant that they made it the title of the article. That was that as a , i feel safer in israel even at a time of war than i do in the united states. Unfortunately that is just as true today as it was almost a year ago. You have been back to israel several times since. Are you in touch with those men who you ran with . Did you ever meet the man in that van who really rescued you . It took me about three months to track him down. Because as soon as he rescued us and dropped us off in his hometown, he turned around to go save more. But i finally got to meet him in person and thank him for saving my life. And him and his son drove back and forth from their hometown to the Festival Grounds for about eight or 10 hours that day and they saved between 300 to 400 people. Risking their own lives over and over again for people they dont even know. Extraordinary. Before october 7, you worked in Real Estate in the u. S. You did not go back to that. You now work in advocacy and just last week, you spoke at a bring them home rally in los angeles. You have spoken to many hostage families. What are they telling you . That couldve been you. What they are telling me is they are doing their best not to lose hope. And meeting them and speaking with them reminds me why i need to continue speaking out until every single one of the hostages are home. I Cant Stop speaking until they are all back. I feel as if i owe it to them. I survived. I made it out. I wasnt taken hostage and they were. I feel that i owe them my voice. Martin, what has this been like for you to report on it, to experience it . Two of your wifes Family Members were hostages. They were released. When this attack first happened, you were on tv with us almost every night. You know, listening to natalie now and thinking about everything, is there a better way to point out how pointless war is . Such an antiwar story. There are victims on both sides. So unnecessary. And yes it was personal for me in the sense that my Wifes Family were involved. Three people were killed, as you know. And eight were taken hostage. So with all the wars i have covered and all the drama i have been during my very long career at nbc covering wars, this one in particular strikes me is how pointless it all is. Unnecessary suffering. And the pictures you showed of the redheaded boys, these people are still hostages. So who in their right mind keeps a oneyearold baby as a hostage . If it wasnt in your heart to release that one. Then you said the number you mentioned that half of the 40,000 people killed in gaza are children. Under the age of 18. It is just horrifying, painful. And shameful. Martin, you lived in israel for many, many years. You think we would be where we are today . No. The tragedy of what is happening is that after this one year horrific violence in gaza, israelis living through this and palestinians living through it, the worst of it could be yet to come. That is the extraordinary thing. Israel going to war with hezbollah in lebanon, israel says they destroyed half of the arsenal of rockets. We were told that hezbollah has 150 to 200,000 rockets. If israel destroyed half of them in just a few weeks, that leaves another 75 to 100,000 at disposal. The worst could easily be yet to come. And israel facing off against iran now, everyone is waiting for what israels response will be to iranian attack of 300 ballistic missiles fired at israel. So will there be a war . Will america be dragged into the war . It is already a regional war. So i didnt think it would be this bad. I was hoping there would be some kind of serious move toward peace to avoid exactly this kind of situation. But for the time being, very much on the back burner. What is it like for you to live here . You said until those hostages are all home, you wont feel okay. What is it like for you to live your life in New York among people who arent thinking about the conflict . Recently i did
