called the student a "future welfare recipient." all the comments were caught on camera. you airline passengers, you are used to shelling out money for a lot of things to that airline, but you'll hear a story this morning of passengers actually paying for the fuel pore their flight. thank you very much for being here on this "cnn saturday morning." i'm t.j. holmes. reynolds wolf is about to join me, because we have a weather situation that is causing fits for firefighters fighting a fire this is going on in northwestern nevada. this is a fast-moving fire fueled by strong winds and dry terrain it is threatening hundreds of home. thousands are without electr electricity around the reno area, but most of those folks do have their power back on now. this fire is a day old and has grown to three square miles. tragically, at least one person has been killed as a result of this fire. also one firefighter had to be taken to the hospital with injuries. schools were closed yesterday. as many as 10,000 people had to be evacuated. 20 homes have been destroyed. we are talking about wind gusts of up to 85 miles per hour. let me get reynolds wolf in on this. good morning. the winds still causing a problem or are they dying down? >> they're done. winds dropping. winds 5 to 10 miles per hour today. that's the good news. humidity is back up. yesterday we had the hurricane-force winds and the low humidity. when you have the dry conditions and the strong wind, the strong win will propel those flames. the situation you have in this area, you have a big range of mountains. we refer to those as the sierra nevada mountains. as you have the wind that rides over these mountains what happens is the wind will go over and then a lot of that moisture will stay on what we call the windward side of the sierra nevada. all your rain and snow will drop in places like lake tahoe, but reno not as much precipitation. yesterday we had the dry conditions, coupled with the winds. today the winds will die down, so that will help. that being said, you already have a fire that's burning. about three miles up in flames. they will have a tough time working today. hopefully mother nature will cooperate with them. we are having a few issues with our weather wall. we will try to get that out of way. we have some video. plain and simply, we have flames everywhere. assistance will come in from a storm that we see further out towards the west. the storm out to the west, this system over here over parts of the pacific coast that will make its way off to the east. that might bring more humidity back in to help the firefighters. in the meantime, snow and a lot of wind up in the northern plains. four to seven inches of snowfall, 30, 40, 50 miles per hour could give you whiteout conditions along i-90. twin cities, you will get the snow, but sunny and mild for much of the seaboard. all right, t.j., you're up to speed in the forecast. we'll give this thing the fonzie kick and see if we can get it working. >> all right. let's turn to politics. an important event today for the republican presidential hopefuls. paul steinhauser tells us why most of the candidates are in iowa and why one is not. >> reporter: good morning. with just over six weeks to go to the iowa caucuses -- >> i'm always reminded when i show up in iowa, the pundits always think they're the ones that pick presidents. no it's the people of iowa that pick the presidents. >> reporter: texas governor richterry along with newt gingrich, herman cain, michele bachmann, they all speak today. conservative voters will have a big say in determines which republican candidate wins the iowa caucuses. while most gop hopefuls will be in the state today, mitt romney will not. he is campaigning in new hampshire, which votes second in the race for the white house. t.j.? >> tuesday night, right here on cnn, the republicans running for president will gather just steps away from the white house for a presidential debate on national security and the economy. this is a cnn debate, that's tuesday 8:00 eastern right here on cnn. herman cain is now being protected by the u.s. secret service. a source inside the government tells cnn that the cain campaign asked for protection after the candidate got some unspecified threats. here's how cain responded yesterday to questions about adding the secret service. the thing about secret service is that things are secret, so we don't discuss any details about it because that would not be appropriate. later in the day, cain admitted there were things he encountered in new hampshire that made it a little uncomfortable. it looks like a possible failure on the debt reduction deal is looming, but members of the super committee say they are planning on working through the weekend to come up with a deal by monday. but the deadline for the deal on $1.2 trillion in deficit savings is wednesday. they say they have to have it done and in the hands of the budget office on monday to get everything in order in time for a wednesday vote. so monday is the day. >> we were sent here to do 1.2 trillion or 1.5 trillion or 4 trillion. so the idea on friday of settling for half of what the american people need and what we were sent here to do is unacceptable to me. >> kerry is one of the members of that super committee. republican pat toomey sounded more optimistic. >> the hour is late. by law, our work on this committee must be completed by this coming week. i remain hopeful that we can complete our goal. i urge our democratic colleagues to join us on this issue. >> this whole thing came about after that debt ceiling debate that happened in the summer. one of the main sticking points is revenue, we mean taxes. republicans proposed a tax to the change code to raise some revenue, but democrats are not going for that. if no deal is reached automatic cuts go into effect. that would happen until 2013. >> we did see these occupy movements all across the country, they were commemorating the two-month anniversary of when the whole occupy wall street movement started. we saw arrests in new york and a big showing across the country. we also saw some scuffles and back and forth between demonstrators and police. take a look at this one. now, a lot of people are outr e outraged by this video. you see the demonstrators sitting on the ground and being pepper sprayed by a police officer this is at the university of california at davis. they refused to move tents they sent up. the campus is upset about rising tuition costs. police defend their action here's saying they were concerned for their own safety. turning to pennsylvania now where the charity started by former penn state coach jerry sandusky may shut down. the ceo of second mile stepped down earlier this week. sandusky has been accused of sexually assaulting at least eight young boys he met through that charity. the new ceo of second mile says closing down is just one of the options they're now considering. also a moment last night for the oklahoma state football team. they stopped to pay tribute to two women's basketball coaches killed in a plane crash earlier friday. the head coach, kirk budke and the assistant coach died when their plane went down in arkansas during a recruiting trip. the number two ranked football team did end up losing that game last night in overtime to iowa state, 37-31. an embarrassing and potentially dangerous situation in australia involving the president. a booklet loaded with confidential details of the president's trip was found lying in a gutter. we'll have the details from australia and talk to the reporter who found that book. stay with me. oh my gosh, oh my gosh.. look at these big pieces of potato. ♪ what's that? [ female announcer ] we all age differently. roc® multi-correxion 4 zone moisturizer with roc®retinol and antioxidants. lines, wrinkles, and sun damage will fade. roc multi-correxion. correct what ages you. about 11 minutes past the hour, president obama is heading home this morning after wrapping up a week-long trip to asia. the trip focused on job creation and cooperation, but one of the headlines centers on a potentially disastrous security slip-up. look at that right there, that's a confidential program detailing the president's trip to australia. he was there earlier in the week. the sydney morning herald reports that book containing secret service plans, placements of strike teams designed to protect the president and minute by minute details of the president's movements, including what side of the limo he is supposed to get out of. what makes this worse is where the book was found -- it was found in a gutter near the australian parliament. joining me on the phone is dillon welch from "the sydney morning herald." am i right, you found the book? >> that's right, t.j. good morning, all. >> did you realize what you had found at the time? how long did it take you to figure out? >> funny enough, it was early in the morning, i had not had much sleep, 6:00 in the morning. we had to arrive three hours early for the president's event at the australian war memorial at 9:00 in the morning. it looked to me like a discarded notebook. i walked past it, then my brain clicked, wait a minute, the u.s. president is here. i picked it up, it looked official. said this is interesting. i was in such a rush until about 2:00 p.m. that i didn't even look at it. when i finally got back to the office after all the presidential events, i went through it and realized that it was certainly something that you wouldn't have wanted, say, a foreign intelligence service to pick up. >> and we have it right. an important detail is that you found it while the president was still in australia. >> yeah. he would have been there for about another 14 hours. so, there is a big "if" in this story. the big if is if it's foreign intelligence or lone wolf person with significant capability, but if they did find it, they would have had 14 hours, and during those 14 hours they would have known to the minute where the president was, what his convoy was comprised of and they would have even known which side of the limo he would have been getting out of. >> dylan, what kind of reaction have you gotten from the white house and the administration in response to what you found? did you try to give it back with them? as a reporter, you know, you have your hands on something, but you know there's a serious security issue here. >> like i said, by the time i realized how significant it was and i went through some stuff, the president had left our nation's capital and gone to the northern city, so i think there was people -- people were fairly -- they weren't too concerned about the immediate threat, but certainly not pleased i had it. i returned it the next day to the prime minister's office. i think, to be frank, though, they stayed fairly quiet about it. i don't think it is to the australian government's benefit to be talking about it, and to be frank i haven't been able to get ahold of the white house since then. it >> dylan welch, thank you for your time. interesting there that you found this but thank you very much for the time and an interesting find down under. thank you very much. we are working here at cnn as well to try to get comment from the white house and from others about what this book is, exactly what is in it and how this kind of happened. but they're being pretty mum at this point so far and not giving us comments. about a quarter past the hour now and the deals are coming on this black friday, less than a week away. one of the biggest shopping days of the year. would you believe black friday, yes, is almost a week from now, but people are already lining up and camped out to get the deals. we'll show you where this is happening. also another deal doesn't appear to be happening. this one in washington. the so-called super committee running out of time. so what is the sticking point? that's next. it's the second career you always wanted. today's the day! and i've been looking forward to this for a long time. it's gonna be a big change. you ready? wow! just what i hoped for! just what you planned for. thanks! [ male announcer ] no need to wait with our christmas price guarantee. we're so confident in our prices if you do find a lower one between now and christmas, we'll give you the difference on a walmart gift card. save money. live better. walmart. give you a look now at some students across country. and a chain reaction crash in oceanside, california. take a look at this scene. an suv embedded in a vacant building. police say it rear-ended two other cars triggering the accident. the suv then jumped a curb, hit a 59-year-old man before careening into the building. the pedestrian was airlifted to the hospital. he was seriously injured. the suv driver was taken to the cam pendleton hospital, and two marines wound up with minor injuries. georgetown, south carolina, a sinkhole swallowed up the foundation of this building in a shopping mall causing it partially to collapse. you can see what's left of the roof and walls. no injuries but clean-up work will be happening all weekend. firefighters will be inspecting other buildings. and this may be going a bit too far. we all know the day after thanksgiving is known as black friday, that's when the stores have those really good deals. can you believe people are already camping out for friday's deals? this is what it looks like outside one best buy store in st. petersburg, florida one family pitched their tent on monday. they're not moving until they get a good deal on a tv. here's a story i want you to chime in on this morning. this is out of kansas city where a high school basketball coach is on paid administrative leave right now after some controversial comments. the coach's name is derek howard. people have now filed a racial harassment complaint against him. the people i'm talking about are parents of a student. let me explain what happened. marcus williams is a student at the center of this he's a high school student in kansas city. he said his coach, coach howard, was speaking to him or has been speaking to him for a while now in negative and in a racially demeaning way. so he's done this with other african-american kids, according to the student. williams said the latest incident, he was able to capture it on his cell phone camera. williams, the student, said he was taking a picture from a photograp photography class and the coach was walking by. take a listen to what happened. >> he stopped and he was like, hey, take the picture and when you take the picture, at the bottom label it future welfare recipient. and i was just like -- i'm kind of hurt. they were just laughing. >> that wasn't the end of it. the student, again, he says he has been through this an
