to be freed? tonight, in the second hour of laura coates live. >> well hamas is put out the list tonight of now the sixth group of hostages expect to be freed, that after 12 more were released today. they are ten israelis, and to tie citizens. no americans were in that group today even though the white house previously said, that two women were expected he freed as part of the deal that was announced between israel and hamas last week. there are hopes that some americans may be released tomorrow, but we are only beginning to learn what the hostages have endured. the father of a nine-year-old emily hand telling cnn this today but >> the most shocking disturbing part of the meeting, she was just whispering. couldn't hear her. i had to put my ear on her lips, like this close, and say, what did you say? i thought you were kidnapped. >> she said, i thought you were kidnapped? >> she thought i was in captivity. she was presuming that everyone is kidnapped, or killed or slaughtered. she had no idea. >> she had no idea, that our father was safe until she was back in his arms. think about what that means. what the recovery is like for a child who is experienced something that someone like emily has. just think about all of the returned hostages families, they are saying they won't rest until every hostage is home safe. safe and sound, and what will that mean for them in the road ahead? there is the family of this four-year-old -- >> there is still many hostages that haven't been released and are not home with their loved ones. until they come home we every day, we want people to understand these are real lives that have been take it, abducted. >> there is the family of 12 year old -- and 16 year old -- , taken along with their father the father is still a hostage. the mother she could not contain her joy that her children are free. >> their family though is still fighting for their rest of the hostages to come home. >> we feel truly like our part of our larger family all the people who have hostages, and we won't rest until every single person's home. >> we will talk to abby in just a moment, many of these families are dealing with almost unspeakable trauma that their loved ones have experience. the trauma that they themselves have been living with. they know the pain that others are feeling still tonight because they have felt it themselves. the fear over what their loved one, their children might be experiencing. the fear that they might never see or hold them again. again, now even as they can finally admit to themselves what they are dream of being united has come true, they can't rest until this feeling is shared by all. all the hostages, the fathers, the mothers, the grandparents, the children, the human beings. until they all come home. i want to bring in -- her young cousins, are free tonight but that is not the end of her family story. abby, thank you so much for joining us we are so glad that two of your cousins, they have been released and they are finally safe tonight. how are they doing? >> thanks for having me back. i'm happy to be here to share that news. they are physically okay. they didn't come home wounded. they came home skinny, they lost a lot of weight, but we think physically they are okay. we have photos of them with their mom smiling. which is the photo i've been waiting 53 days for. and the most important thing is, that they were reunited with their mother and their two siblings. and now we continue to fight for the father. i don't think that they're healing begins until we get him home, until we get every hostage home. >> such an important, i remember when i was expecting to the martin, she would speak about their children but don't forget their father. don't forget him. he is still being held hostage, they have now learned that their grandmother, and their cousins that they were murdered. how has your family been coping, more than 50 days since the attack, what is this feeling like to you? >> i think the night that they were released, it was the first time anyone in the family truly smiled, and truly laughed. and that there is any sort of release. i think we allowed ourselves, the few hours of watching that actually happen. i don't think any of us had fully processed it. there was screaming and laughter, enjoy knowing that these children were coming home. and we said tomorrow we go back to fight. we go back to fight, four for our family, for every one of our families until every single person's home. it's striking to think about allowing oneself that moment, after all of the moments of waiting. and knowing still, that there is so much more to do. i wonder, when you are hearing and starting to hear those stories of what hostages like your family has experienced in hamas's custody. are you cousins, are they talking at all what happened to them while they were held? >> i'm sure they will speak in more detail, right now we are focusing on their house. they came back from captivity right to the hospital, we are focusing on food, physical health, we know they didn't eat enough. we know they couldn't access bathrooms when they needed to. it is more critical for us to make sure that they had no food that they wanted, that they could get yogurt with grapes and granola. that was one of the things they asked for. and we will get the next pieces in the coming days. >> so important to think about what they would be asking for, just those moments to give them frankly whatever they would want, just to try to give them some semblance of what normalcy. i wonder, as a parent, how are you explaining to your own children, what has happened? the cruelty, that has been involved and to know it's not in the distance. this is happened to your community, to your family, to their cousins. >> it is so hard, i don't as an adult have a good explanation. i can't explain terror, or why you would want to steal someone, and hold them away from their family. we showed our older son the photo of them coming home, we wanted them to have this concrete image. he said, oh my gosh that is what this looks like. that is what hamas looks like? and we said yes. it is this moment of joy, that they are coming home. that they are being held by mass terrorist with guns. it's scary. up until now, they haven't seen any visual. but we explain this as terror, we explain this as evil. and that we as a family don't believe in hate. and that this is not an ethos that we operate aren't. that this is something that exists, and something we need them to be aware of. because it is close to us, unfortunately. >> abby, you almost wish she could go back to the moment when you are telling your kids there is no monster under that. and now, the reality of all this. abby thank you so much for joining us tonight. >> thank you so much for having me. >> joining me now, congressman jake auchincloss, congressman thank you for joining me, hearing the stories of hostages being returned, there are so many others, including men. we are learning from some new reporting tonight congressman, barack ravine, cnn foreign policy analyst, he is reporting that his sources are telling him that israel and will not will not agree to any future deal until all of the women and children, under this current deal, are released. there is only one day left of this extension. what is your reaction to your reporting tonight? >> thanks for having me on, laura. i'm not gonna second guess the israeli cabinet structuring of these negotiations, if this is the leverage they think they need to get the women and children home within the next 24 hours. then i support that. i think to myself, as you are having this conversation on the meeting i had yesterday morning with the family of the hostages, they had flown to tel aviv to boston. in the time of that flight, one of them is able to them to show me three pictures of her family members who had been released. and it was a joyous occasion for her, and yet there was another family member with them, an orthopedic surgeon, who for the first 27 days after october 7th had thought that her sister, her 27-year-old at the music festival had been taken hostage as well. she had been working with the other families to secure her release. unfortunately, after day 27 they found out she had been in fact murdered. and taken 27 days because her body had been mutilated by hamas. and yet she was still there with the family, she traveled to the united states, she was continuing to advocate for medical care for the hostages. it speaks to me in the strength and beauty of the israeli spirit, in the face of these atrocities. what we in the united states 02 are close ally in terms of not just, military financial support, but also moral support. in rejecting these misguided calls for a cease-fire, that rightfully should be directed to more hamas. that entity that is internationally recognized terrorist organize, that walk through the last cease-fire of two murdered 1400 civilians, and promised to do so again. absent any detail or retaliation. we need to be supporting israel, not just in this round of negotiation, in the latitude that they need to resume military itself. >> it strikes me that some of the criticism surrounding israel is also about the conversations about the civilians in gaza, palestinian suffering, not only under the reign of hamas, but also the rain of the bombardments, and the response to what hamas has done. in israel. as a and ally, the alliance is important to the biden harris in ministration, to the government of united states more broadly. is it truly misguided though, to approach israel with a conversation about how best to specify significantly target areas? as opposed to the broader scope of civilians? >> it's misguided to call for a cease-fire that would be a unilateral cease fire. that only one side with respect. that's not a cease-fire, that is handcuffing our ally in facing a terrorist organization that is promised to take more hostages. but to your point laura, it is absolutely right we should always expect our large to uphold the law of context, we've been in close consultation multiple times of the day with their war cabinet, on better surgical targeting. on humanitarian corridors between the north and the south on allowing more delivery trucks into the rafah causing. all which president biden's advanced into pelosi me not just with, out with aegis but with qatar, and with saudi arabia as well. the president deserves a tremendous amount of credit for a master class and statements shift over the last 16 days, and walking the tightrope between those calling a size fire. which would really benefit hamas. but on those on the road calling for is galatians on iran, which would open new fronts on the war with israel without advancing its security, or. >> between the right in the last, it where's my jab and kind of increasing middle our conversations about aid to israel. and just how much to override? we know what's going on in ukraine, we can't forget about the fact that there is an ongoing invasion and war there. you spies book about, you are a veteran, you are wisely in tune with what's going on. on the issue of aid in particular, are you seeing a universal support for continued aid, and in what form? >> universal no, but forward progress yes. i'm optimistic's within the next few days, the supplemental security practice that would be standing with democracy is a fight against tyranny, in ukraine as, they fight again totalitarians in the indo-pacific, and chinese aggression, tarrant in middle east with eight israel. also, investing in border security, making policy changes to enhanced border security in the. -- >> is that a part of a condition with the aid? >> the president asked for more border security, and the republicans have responded with we want more policy package change as well. i responded to. i think we should make those negotiations along with republicans. the senators are passing paper back and forth on that. i think an asylum change is likely. that is a triple when. that's a win for border security, that is a win for ukraine, that is a win for israel, and it's really about the united states standing with our allies overseas. >> we will see how this all comes out. obviously, you've got that tiered system coming forward. that can that was kicked down the road with the government aversion. the condition with aid and the alliance i hope it can be consistent in the end, congress thank you for joining us. >> thank you. question of course, while the war in the middle east rages, let's not forget, we have a presidential election looming right here at home. and liz cheney is out with a scathing takedown of her own party. wait until you hear the unbelievable things she says kevin mccarthy told her about donald trump! >> tonight, we've got a cnn exclusive. the former congresswoman, liz cheney, and just how far she says some in her own party will go to protect the former president, donald trump. the bombshell revelations coming from her forthcoming book. it's called out an honor. and she writes, and i'm quoting here, donald trump cannot succeed alone. he depends upon enablers and collaborators. every american should understand what his enablers in congress, and members of the republican party, where willing to do to help trump seized power in the months after he lost the 2020 presidential election. and what they continue to do to this day. i want to bring in former congressman fred upton, and -- leanne caldwell, she covered liz cheney's time in congress as well. glad to have you both here. first of all, cheney is pulling no punches on this. she is talking about her former colleague, talks about him being shameless, to say the least. hypocrites who followed him when they knew he pose a great danger. but he's still the head of the republican party, even at this moment in time. will this make any difference? >> i do not think it will. i look at the states, the filing deadlines. the change in the roles. i know michigan is going to be in essence, a winner take all. rubio gotta third of the votes, that casey got a list of that delegates back in 2013. and it has changed. he had a big lead over everybody when you put him together. so he is by far the front runner and will be very hard to catch. >> i wonder on that point. because trump did some pretty significant pr campaigning against liz cheney. even going as far to call her a rhino, trying to discredit her among the party to say, you should not listen to her because she's not really a republican. you covered her time in congress in particular, did that lay the groundwork as to my it might not make a difference? >> absolutely, he did a good job undermining her, undermining her position within the republican party. saying that she is no longer a member a of the republican party. but it wasn't her job either, it was kevin mccarthy, it was other republicans who voted to remove liz cheney from her position in leadership. where then after that she became quite alienated, and she was trying to continue to stand up for what she thought what the republican party should be. the party of the constitution. but ultimately what happened, is she was outnumbered. and people really pushed her aside. because republican voters based trump voters, also did not like what she was telling me. >> and in her own states. trump helped to engineer a primary against her, in her own state. her dad had been a longtime member, secretary of defense, et cetera. they took her out. >> vice president as well. >> i will tell you, there was a striking anecdote about kevin mccarthy in this. let me share with you. this is by the way just three weeks after january six when this happened. you know he went down to mar-a-lago, there is that now infamous photo of the kissing of the ring moments. here is what she said. she says, i'm quoting here, about the excuse she gave her when she asked about that trip. cheney says, mar-a-lago? what the kevin? mccarthy says, they are really worried. trump is not eating so he asked me to come and see him. jamie, what? you went to mar-a-lago because trump is not eating? mccarthy, yeah. he is really depressed. these are actual words on paper. i'm reading apparently a quote. and what do you think of it? >> that is not what people close to kevin mccarthy told me when he went down to mar-a-lago. they said the way that he went down because of course there was a fund-raiser close by. so he decided to stop by. but also because he wanted to protect the republicans who voted to impeach trump. to try to get trump off of their back. >> that's the part that i disagree with. i do not think that he was, trump, after ten of us voted to impeach him. i don't think he would've ever soften this lap. >> right, that's just what people close them are telling me. what's interesting, i was listening to your interview with adam canning cigar from last hour, he said that tell the day he dies he says that kevin mccarthy resurrected donald trump. i agree with that. the mood on capitol hill, and the days after january 6th, people wanted nothing to do with donald trump. even if they did not vote to impeach him, republicans who are very hands off. did it want to talk about him, didn't want to see him again. and then kevin mccarthy went out there. sent very strong signal that it is continue to be okay to embrace trump. so kevin mccarthy has played a very big role in trump's resurgence. >> did he research him? >> yes, i think in reflection. i think that is true. i think the two of them worked collectively together. kevin always wanted to be speaker, trump could have stopped that from happening. remember the 15 ballots that they had? a couple of the folks had the phone, and trump was calling and saying boat for kevin. it put him over the top. but kevin did not go down there to protect the ten of us. he came there to do a media culpa, i think, based on the flipping that he had said to make sure that he was still in the good graces with him. >> i guess we will have to wait for his birth, the revisionist history that will come. good to see a, what kate upton, frank caldwell. good to see you so much. now, some are under fire by some of its own staff. why? well sports illustrated published authors and they're fake titled dated raided by a.i.. someone from the magazinine is y guest,t, next! >> so in today's digital dilemma. i want to introduce you to a sports illustrated writer, andrew ortiz. his bio says that he spends much of his time outdoors, he loves camping, hiking, enjoying time at his parents farm. all of that makes him the right person to quote, guide you through his never-ending list of the best products to keep you from falling to the perils of nature. unquote. there is a catch though, there is no drew ortiz. the issue of the image that you see of him? it is a i generated. it's fake, there's not even a farm. this was all covered by one maggie harrison, a staff writer at futurism. and she joins me now. maggie, drew ortiz, first of all thinking about how this is all fake is really pretty stunning to think about. you actually found the exact same image that was used on that website on a site that sells a.i. generated head shots. tell me how you unpack all of this? >> it was separate weeks of reporting. we have been working on this for a little while now, futurism. it was when we stumbled across the content. it wasn't terribly, as you said, it was honestly a pretty quick traced back to this a.i. generated head shot website. where drew ortiz is listed as neutral white male. et cetera at sandra. a description of how it starts, and he and several riders that we found at sports illustrated. it was a similar thing. the content in itself is pretty strange. and that's a separate part of the story, but the rioters themselves, again, these traceable for those to those generated photos by faces, which you know humans don't do and th
