republican congressman john katko of new york calls the situation disorder at the border by executive order. reaction from him in a minute but first fox team coverage david sphungt is in wilmington, delaware where biden is spending the weekend and we begin with griff jenkins live in mission, texas, griff. reporter: good afternoon jon we're here in rio grand valley next to wall and turn and use a visual here with our drone you can see i'm behind wall that is intended to stop the illegal crossers from getting into the u.s. but then all of a sudden, in this section of the wall, it is nothing but a gigantic hole. this section of the wall intended to be completed during the trump administration but it was stopped during the biden administration simply because he halted all wall construction. and here in this specific area it is ground zero for border surge in terms of numbers people coming across we've been here talking to agents and talking to residents one of them jr. and who has family own private along the rio grand river for veries he says it is not getting better and, in fact, worse. listen to what he says. >> they picked up again this past january picked up again and just the other day 110 people in span of two hours and it has gotten so bad the trail is really hard, and outside on top of a road -- there's life jackets. or last time i was there i saw life jackets so it's a worn trail and won't stop any time soon. reporter: and how bad is it jon, well in just the last 24 hours, in rbg section 1,940 apprehensions bringings the year total to the first five month the here in fiscal year up 177% from this time last year. earlier today, on cavuto' show head of the border patrol counsel had this to say. >> we're perpetuating this issue where we're inviting people to cross our borders illegally. now as dire the situation sounds there's one thing that i am confident in. i am confident in our current secretary he has a great deal of experience. he knowings border security issues. whether the administration is actually going to listen to him or not, that remains to be seen. >> and add into that jon there's a up tick in certainly number of narcotics coming in because with so many of the migrant coming across it is opportunity for the cartels. jon. jon: i know griff you've been talking to border patrol agents oned ground. how are they feeling about all of this? do they feel supportive? >> well, they feel committed to doing their job no matter what come theirs way. but i'll tell you, when i was over in laredo with ?ort cornyn and was and i talked to one of the agents named hector garza he believes unless they change their policies, this government is playing a part of the problem here's what hector garza said. take listen. >> i truly think the federal government is complicit in the alien smuggling that's happening on the border right now. i think in a way the federal government is aiding abetting smuggling of human beings into our country. >> and just to give a final bit of context, here in this area, agents tell me it cost every migrant about 1200 dollars to get smug smuggled cross and everyone they get in the case of the last 24 hours number we showed you almost 2,000 that's 1200 dollars per head. jon. jon: griff jenkins in mission, texas, griff, thank you. well the biden administration is acknowledging the overwhelming number of migrants at our southern border but still refusing to describe the situation as a crisis. david spunt is live in wilmington, delaware with more on that. david. reporter: jon good evening there are growing calls for president biden to physically make a trip to the southern border to see what's going on with his own two eyes. it is a course of republicans and democrats that want him to make the trip down there no trip announced yet, of course, that could change meanwhile president biden attended church an hour ago with two of his grandchildren and friend here in wilmington this weekend meetingg with advisorring talking about moment parking lot different things including that covid relief package that just passed but no question -- the border is clearly a problem for this president. jon, republicans are calling it a rice sis in democrats callingt a challenge no matter the specific wording there are serious problems at the border both parties can agree about that. one of those problems a surge of unaccompanied children crossing the border sometimes very young with no possessions, you've seen the video multiple timers this just desperate to get into the united states. homeland security secretary alejandro, inning an interview saided situation is not out of control it is most certainly challenging both from a logistic perspective also a humanitarian perspective secretary went on to say border is not open it is not an open border policy. that is absolutely untrue. the numbers from february the cpb custom border protection numbers shows about 100,000 encounters that includes about 9500 unaccompany minors single minors, family unit of 19,000 and single adults around 71,000. >> you can't build enough facilities to take care of all of the people that are going to continue to come across the border. you have to do something to stop or to slow down the input or flow into the country. >> republican texas senator john cornyn joined democrat henry a member of congress down at the border for a trip to see if with their own eyes and he said despite the narrative that kids have been locked in cages during the trump administration even the biden administration, well, congressman says that's not true. >> so it is a -- it is not cages if anybody is cages, they're definitely not cages. and nobody has had cages in the past. >> now, president biden and his team will continue to celebrate the victory of it that covid relief package right now as i speak to you, millions of americans are checking their bank accounts to find those $1400 direct payments so that is a priority for the president he's going head to georgia and pennsylvania this coming week to talk about covid relief but no question, the border remains at the forefront of this administration's priority. jon. jon: all right david spunt in wilmington, delaware, david, thank you. house minority leader kevin mccarthy says president biden still has not replied to his letter last week asking to meet about the border crisis. in that letter mccarthy noted biden homeland security secretary telling migrants we're not saying don't come. we're saying don't come now. mccarthy responded, quote, to be clear, there is never a right time to enter the country illegally and violate the laws of the united states. signaling otherwise is reckless and will make the situation worse. mccarthy and my next guest will visit the border with a delegation of house republicans next week. new york congressman john katko is ranking member on the house homeland security committee. congressman, we just got some breaking news that alejandro mayorkas homeland security secretary is tasking fema with addressing the crisis of unaccompanied minors crossings the border. what's the purpose of that? what good will it do? >> i can tell you this much right by doing that there are many a crisis even though they won't say it there is absolutely a crisis think about it fema is dealing with the first nationwide state of emergency ever in the history of their agency. that being the pandemic. and they're in charge of distributing vaccines and in charge of getting person protection equipment all of the things related to pandemic. and this order that was just sengts out by health an human services few minutes ago, is man dating that fema take away the precious resources to deal with what's going on at the border and what's going on at the border was created that crisis was created on biden executive order so there's no doubt that this order at the border was by executive order and now they're peeling away precious resources from fema and american citizens who are need to get injected have their vaccine and get the personal equipment everything going suffer because of the lack of attention. that fema is distracted now this is outrageous. jon: you're laying this at the feet of president biden and biden administration. >> look there's no question about it. i started my 20 year career as a federal prosecutor going after a cartel level drug traffickers now el paso texas in 1990s one thing i know today, drug traffickers control the border. and they will take signals from united states to see what they can exploit. they know now because of the executive orders that biden issued earlier in administration that there's lack enforcement at the border and 173% increase and february 2021, versus february 2020, at border. so there's no question that they're trying to exploit what's going on make no mistake about it. you don't cross that border without the cartels say so and they are paying -- they have to pay the cartels to get across. cartels are now probably making more money in human trafficking than they do with drug traffics let's not forget at least bear out a third of the women south of the border are sexually assaulted on the way up by cartels so this is a crisis both in mexico, and here in the united states. >> of course biden administration has famously canceled wall construction project kongtsed or begun under the trump administration. former acting -- department of homeland security secretary chad wolf addressed that earlier today on fox. listen to this. >> first thing they can do is finish the crux and they chose not to they redeploy to address illegal crossings in those areas and what that will do at end of the day is take assets from other pargts of the border that need it, and to be down there at the wall cow honestly think president biden would, you know, go back on his earlier executive order and say oh, okay let's go ahead and resume construction of the wall. a guy and i think going to what he's done he's thought to remain in mexico policy for asylum seeks and border wall no one is a saying we don't want to have immigration we just can't have people coming across the border with impunity stressing overstress economy and people. i've spoke some of my fellow congressman in texas, and literally have bus loads coming up from the border into their towns all over texas, and illegal aliens coming out to buses and they're overwhelmed small police departments and small towns, and i get it. but shocking to me is, there are now sending fema and diverting their prerks resources from the pandemic which is killing americans to deal with crisis at the border that president created. that is something i hope the president takes look at says gee, let's try to work something out here and i'm happy to talk about that. congressman republican of new york i hope we can talk to you more about this another time after your trip to the border. but in the meantime please stand by. we want to bring you back in a couple of minutes to get your reaction on this. ♪ ♪ jon: the governor of new york andrew cuomo will not bow
