you are live with us in the cnn newsroom. we are live in tel aviv. we continued our breaking news coverage, as israel welcomes home a second group of hostages, released earlier today. this was the extraordinary scene that you see right there at the crossing from gaza, into egypt. we witness those hostages finally making their way out of gaza, the other way from internationals the red cross. we also watched that those hostages finally arrived in tel aviv. it is there where they will be reunited with their families after more than seven weeks in captivity. we are still waiting on more hostages to arrive at that hospital. that should be moments from now. as part of the deal involving a four day pause in the fighting, which we are halfway through, more than three dozen palestinians were also released from israeli prisons, both yesterday and today. katelyn collins is here with me from tel aviv. she has been bringing us up-to- the-minute coverage of this ongoing process exchange. >> reporter: alex, as we are just now seeing right here , 4:00 in the morning, those hostages arrived at this medical center. we are still learning more about what is going to happen potentially tomorrow with the third group of hostages. it we now know that is really officials have received the list of hostages who are slated to be released tomorrow. we know the israeli government has already contacted the families of the hostages that are on that list, to give them the news. they are contacting the families whose loved ones are that are not on the list tomorrow, and are not set to be released by hamas. right now, these are the 13 israeli hostages that were released today. eight children, and five women. they rage -- range in age to 60 years old. it this is part of the group that was released today. it we have eyes and ears on the ground, covering all of these breaking developments here in this second hostage exchange, as part of this major temporary truce. the chief global affairs correspondent, has been following this all day. we are watching and seeing these hostages. it this is so much later than the first group of hostages. from these medical centers, what is next for them? >> at least they are here. earlier on this evening, there was a possibility that they were not going to be released at all. in terms of what is next, they are going to obviously be undergoing much more thorough and medical checkups. they have spent a lot of time potentially in darkness. some of them are probably underground. that is certainly a concern. one of the first things that the israeli medics would have done. they are making sure that there is permanent damage for that lack of light. the medical treatment will continue. if everybody is in relatively good health, then one of them has been sent directly to a hospital. they have some potential condition. the psychological counseling, they want to make sure that this first contact back at home, is as soft and as easy as possible. it we are going to have psychological problems. the trauma of being torn away from their homes october 7th in such a violent way, and of course their subsequent ordeal. >> i keep thinking about this agreement and this delicate action that they saw. i will point, the red cross would be able to go in as part of this agreement, to tend to the other hostages that were napping. they were not expected to be in this group of 50. israeli officials have been telling us that hamas is not letting it happen. >> when i heard that as being one of the things that has been conceded to by hamas, you think it is a big thing. hamas, would allow the outside organization like the red cross to come in and inspect the other hostages inside gaza. they are being hidden of course, to make sure that the israelis don't stay special forces and military rates to rescue them. it was always unlikely that they were going to agree to that. that is to be concerned. allegations of violations, from hamas, it is one of the reasons of the agreements. it is the reason why this hostage exchange and hostage release was delayed so long. the israelis did not allow sufficient aid into the gaza strip. this was the right level of prisoners from israeli jails. there is another agreement. it is a very fragile one. they have lots of conditions that may be are being violated. maybe not to the extent that it is worth calling off the deal. normally they would derail this for the sake of a small disagreement. >> the one part of that does appear to have been upheld, is that there is no fighting in gaza, and no drones flying overhead. anderson, showing this video of a young, nine-year-old boy, for the first time, no drones flying over gaza, was the most quiet it had been. he could not remember how long. what is that cost israel as far as intelligence cost, when it comes to moving around hostages, or hamas regrouping? >> the reason they didn't want to stage this much of the fighting, is because they thought that it may give hamas the opportunity to regroup, to resupply, and this uses the hostage deal that has a cover for that. they are not flying drones in the area either. they still have waves, i think. they are trying to keep an eye on what was going on from the ground. they have another boom from the hostage release. those individual hostages are going to be coming out. they could have the intelligence that could be more reaction will. they should be able to paint a three-dimensional picture of what the situation is for the other hostages. i don't know this for a fact. i would imagine that each one of those hostages is going to be debriefed by the security services in this country, to see what they can pass on to the intelligence sections. >> this is the third list. what are his really hostages looking at? this was the fourth group, being released by hamas. >> they are getting on that list from israelis. we know it. we know these americans to be on that list. thank you very much, looking at it. president joe biden, and his top aides, are looking at things that unfold. they have been under here for the past few days. they are spending time in nantucket with his family for the ensuing weekend. we have heard the president repeatedly say how involved in this process he has been. he has made it clear that he has made it certain for himself in these conversations. israeli and egyptian counterparts, they called them again. today, they have had repeated calls between these two men. the call happened as this delay was beginning to form. we were beginning to understand what was going on. what role did the president play in making the parties move forward and get to where they are now with all of these actions? >> president joe biden, has talked throughout this entire process about the implementation of this plan. he got personally engaged and involved today. they could potentially be falling apart. this was the prime minister, talking about his possible hurdles that were popping up, as well as other ways that they could try to alleviate some of these concerns. they have been working as one of the main mediators. it was around 1:30 in the afternoon and the time, where the white house got word from the qatari's, after they got caught up from senior white house officials, as well as counterparts in both egypt, israel, and qatar. 1:30, is when the white house got word of releasing today. the red cross was moving to try to recover these hostages. vice president kamala harris, actually spoke about this earlier today as she was out in california. take a listen to what she had to say. >> there were some issues and challenges around implementation. president joe biden, spoke with them to resolve those issues. we do believe they are being resolved. we are going to continue to be vigilant and diligent to do a weekend in that regard, to make sure that there is humanitarian aid going in. the highest priority of course, the citizens who are being held. >> reporter: president joe biden, hoping to keep this deal on track towards completion. one concern is about those american citizens who are being held hostage. this is by hamas. they were not part of the release that occurred on friday and saturday. officials will be watching for the coming hours, waiting to hear whether any american citizens will be in this next batch. expect them to be released on sunday. they have three americans that the u.s. is working to try to get back to their families. that includes two women, and that four-year-old. at the white house, saying that they are hopeful that they will be released in the coming days. of course, there are many more americans that remain hostage, as well as that large group. >> there are as many as 20 of them. that is a major question. thank you very much. hamas, released 17 hostages tonight. four tile and nationals. many of them are hoping that the relatives will be next to be released. the father and mother of one hostage, joins cnn next. stay with us. so far, a total of 26 is really hostages have been released by hamas. the whereabouts of roughly 200 more, still unknown in gaza tonight. for so many families, the weight here is excruciating. that includes the parents of this hostage. you see his photo. 35 years old, he was kidnapped during that raid. it they had so many hostages taken yesterday from that area. johnny is now tonight, his parents. thank you both so much for joining me. this must be an agonizing time to see family members coming home still waiting. can you just tell me how you are feeling and processing, which is obviously a bittersweet moment? >> honestly, it is joyous. all for my people, they have my extended family. this is because of the fact that they are a small, very tightknit community. today, they have different profile communities. i couldn't be more happy for them. honestly. i don't know if this is the start of something bigger and longer, but for right now, i couldn't be more happy. for those families, we will stop until we are getting it. >> when you hear that, i'm almost think it is good to know. it is such a tightknit community. of course, you are looking at that family earlier. you are talking about the fact that she was held underground. this entire time, she was in the dark. she had this moment, when she was looking at the sun, she didn't know she was being released, or she was taken to be executed until she saw the red cross cars. it just speaks to what all of these hostages have been through for the last 50 days. >> that is really heart- wrenching, what you just shared. i'm a little speechless. of course, every day, terrible things go through your mind. i'm just trying to clarify and say that i am his stepmom. i'm here in the states, watching it from here. this is sort of a different kind of action, and not being with them, it is similar to the other kids. this is where they want it right now. of course, every day, it's a new, horrible thought. is he being treated all right? is he hurt? of course, hoping that he is okay. we hope to get him back. >> we talked about the u.s. government, and how they did a good job with staying in touch with the families. have you met anything else from the u.s. government? >> no. unfortunately, we are in an especially challenging boat with many others. this includes other communities. from the morning of october 7th, 9:30 to be exact in the morning, that is what we heard. we have heard nothing else. he could not turn up, and was not identified in any of the horrific video clips that hamas posted on the social media sites. this is from any of the sources. it is really american, or otherwise. >> i know it is difficult. there is not a lot of news. these families have young sons. this is what the prospects have right here. i was his family doing? >> how is his family doing? his girls miss him. they are doing their best to keep themselves together. certainly, his wife, taking care of the girls. they are waiting. they're trying to get them to come back what more can i say about how they are hitting? >> i would only add to that. it was heartbreaking. it's also heartbreaking in a similar way. this was destroyed and burned to the ground. they cannot get their dad back right away. this is a home that they have known their entire lives. it was destroyed by terrorists and looters a month and a half ago. they have been trying to stand in front. they try to have no good answers. >> they wouldn't know it. those grandparents are trying to start with the most questions. when is his wife due to have his third child? >> one week to two weeks. >> that could be any day now. are you guys holding on? we talked to a lot of viewers and people who are going to listen to people like this one. they are just dying to know how you guys have this strength to talk about this. talk about your pain. what is this agonizing situation that you are in? >> it is more than anyone else in the world. my son, and the 230 other israelis that are being held captive, and are in a living [ bleep ], it is my job, and other people's jobs, to go alongside the pain and the fear. we need to make sure that through the world, through media, this is through the states. we have partnering countries. this is what i hope tomorrow. i don't know when that is going to be. these two little girls leap into his arms. that is what they are waiting for. they are trying to meet his third little girl. very soon. >> there is no way to fight business. it is so hard to wrap your head around it. they are keeping their name and those are hostages names right here. we are stopping that. that is not going to do him any good. >> i am so grateful to you for joining. thank you for going on and talking about this. your son, we are thinking of you. thank you for your whole family tonight. >> thank you so much. >> thank you both. we are continuing to speak to families like his who are spending tonight waiting to learn more. we have other hostages. the second group that was released today, they just arrived at hospitals here in tel aviv. we are continuing to track that. they are being reunited with their families. special live coverage of the latest hostage release, continues right after a short break. in order for small businesses to thrive, they need to be smart, efficient, right here, she was reunited with her father. another family right there, reuniting as well. emily is nine years old. she turned nine while in captivity. released today after 50 days being held by hamas. they were interviewed by cnn, several weeks ago by our friend. one of the most searing interviews that i have seen in my life. he was saying that he not only believed that emily had been killed, but that he had said that that would be a better outcome than being taken prisoner by hamas, because of what he thought hamas might do to his daughter. he later found out that she was still alive. here, we have this remarkable, unbelievably emotional reunion. >> just to see that moment, that father gets to hug his daughter. we know how candid he was. he met in our interview. he knows what he thought could happen to her. it gives you chills. you can see the smiles on the faces of the soldiers who were there. he was being reunited with her. we have seen so many of these moments. each one gives you chills. to know their story, we know the other little girl as well that we can see in this video. hugging the other man, hugging her uncle i believe. it they have done several interviews talking about her. she was a hostage was released today in an unusual circumstance. when we have not seen play out in the last couple of days, without her mother. typically, we have seen, and what we have heard from israeli officials, is that when we made this agreement, is that there were parents and children. they were held together. they wanted to be released together, not to be separated. we have seen multiple mothers and their children be released. we saw yesterday. we saw several of them today. there were the one that really were looking at being released without their mothers. they were really know what condition is. they believe she was kidnapped. they believe there is video of her being kidnapped while her daughter hid in the bushes on october 7th. clearly, i think it speaks to them not knowing the conditions of any of these hostages until they turn up at the border. there is no insight into how they are doing. to see her and emily become friends, that was her spending the night. she was at a sleepover with her friends. she didn't live there. she was at a sleepover on october 7th when that horrific day happened. it was just a joyous moment when there have not been a lot of those moments. seeing them reunited with her family. >> it is not just for those families. it is for the whole country. they have demanded the hostages come home. israel is doing what they can to bring them home. obviously, many other families are holding out hope to read their family members are still alive, will be home soon, and are under this deal that was struck treated there is no expectation that 20 more israelis will be released over the coming two days. as you say, things can change. unexpected things can happen. people may not get relief when they least expect it. this is a very fluid situation. the one we are looking at right now, is obviously one of tremendous joy for those two families. we are going to take a quick break. we will have more of the special coverage from israel and washington about the ongoing war between israel and hamas, right after this break. stay with us. in order for small businesses to thrive, they need to be smart, hoping now that the truce can be extended beyond the four days that was originally agreed to. as hostages arrive, israeli hospitals and palestinian detainees and prisoners also arrived in the west bank. the military did use tear gas to disperse and the crowds. i want to bring in andrew homan, the vice president of national security strategy integration at the sheraton. he joins us now. he also served in the office and director of national intelligence as one of this countries highest national intelligence correspondence. thank you very much. six hours a day, there'll be no drones. how does israel make up for those eyes not being there to try to keep tabs on hamas, to figure out where these hostages are? >> they have restriction drone sites. they been trying to locate and track hamas operatives. to make up for that loss in capability, they have other satellite reconnaissance abilities. they tend to be better for strategic intelligence collection agencies. for technical collections agencies, puts them on the intelligence buys on personal accounts. this includes social media accounts of other open source reporting's, as well as other poten
