Local authorities and Weather Experts say milton will bring a destructive Storm Surge in which some areas will not be survivable. Hundreds of flights have been cancelled ahead of its landfall, which is expected to bring strong winds of up to 155mph or 250kph. Milton comes just days after Hurricane Helene tore through the Southeastern Us 225 people were killed by the Natural Disaster across six states. The back to back storms are expected to leave historic levels of damage that could take years to recover from. Unlike helene, milton will only pass through florida on its way to the atlantic ocean, making the Sunshine State the only one to be affected twice. President biden has postponed a trip to germany to oversee preparations and prepare a federal response. He urged those in Miltons Path to evacuate, calling it a matter of life and death. We can show you just how huge Hurricane Milton is. Nasa Astronaut Matthew dominick has shared this time Lapse Video filmed as the international Space Station was orbiting over the hurricane in the gulf of mexico. Our correspondent Gordon Corera sent this report from tampa, in florida. An exodus from tampa. Long lines of Traffic Snaking out of the city tell you that the warnings are being taken seriously here. Florida is used to hurricanes, But the message has been that this time is different. The city is still recovering from the last hurricane, helene, which hitjust two weeks ago and killed more than 200 in the wider region, with hundreds more still missing. The water was up to here. And thats from the last 12 weeks ago, yeah . And Inside Tampa today, there are desperate last minute preparations. Steve crist s Dental Surgery was hit badly last time and he knows milton promises to be much worse. Ive lived here my whole life, im 73 years old, and we have never had anything like this, ever. And to have two in two weeks, as well . Yes that building has never flooded, i practised dentistry in there over a0 years. The Speed And Intensity with Which Milton formed, with winds of 180mph, is whats caused real alarm. Even if it weakens, that will not stop the massive Storm Surge, which could be as much as 15 feet high hitting the coast, double what helene inflicted, and with Tampa Right in its expected path. This is literally catastrophic, and i can say without any dramatisation whatsoever, if you choose to stay in one of those evacuation areas, youe going to die. Another sign of how seriously this is being taken was that President Biden cancelled foreign travel and issued his own warning. You should evacuate now, now, you should have already have evacuated. It is a matter of life and death, and that is not hyperbole. It is a matter of life and death. At a Sports Stadium in nearby saint petersburg, 10,000 Camp Beds are being prepared for Emergency Workers wholl be trying to get the community back on its feet. The Power And Danger posed by milton is clear from these pictures of a crew aboard a Research Flight that went through the hurricane. They were forced to hold tight as they were buffeted by its winds and beneath them, florida is now preparing for the hurricane s arrival. Joining me live is Congressman Maxwell Frost, of floridas tenth district. Thanks indeed forjoining us on Bbc News. What is the situation where you are like now . Where you are like now . Well, im in orlando, where you are like now . Well, im in orlando, florida, where you are like now . Well, im in orlando, florida, so where you are like now . Well, im in orlando, florida, so we| im in orlando, florida, so we are more inland than the folks who will get the really worst parts of these storms But the important thing for people to keepin important thing for people to keep in mind is, even if you are inland, florida is not a huge state in terms of going from east to west. So theres not a tonne of land they to weaken the storm a bunch before it gets to us. In fact, many meteorologists believe it will remain as a hurricane, carrying Hurricane Force winds throughout the landfall as It Spits out on the other side of the state. So its really important that, no matter where you are, if you are in that cone of uncertainty, people should take this very uncertain dust very seriously. The thing about hurricanes, the cone of uncertainty shows where the eye of the storm a lan. We are unsure where exactly that will be, so we always tell people its best to hope for the best But plan for the worse, and be prepared for that. But-plan'>find But Plan for the worse, and be prepared for that. And indeed, weve heard prepared for that. And indeed, weve heard from prepared for that. And indeed, weve heard from some prepared for that. And indeed, weve heard from some of prepared for that. And indeed, weve heard from some of the| weve heard from some of the meteorologists that actually its out of the outside of the storm to make her can cause such damage. Weve heard of Fuel Shortages in other difficulties in the Evacuation Process are you confident that everyone who needs to get out of Harms Way will be able to do so . I out of Harms Way will be able to do so . To do so . I am, as long as folks have to do so . I am, as long as folks have been to do so . I am, as long as folks have been heeding i to do so . I am, as long as i folks have been heeding the warnings im coming from local, state and federal government, weve had discussions with many federal agencies, the State Emergency Manager this morning, as well as fema yesterday, i got the joint of Hurricane Hunters, we left out of lakeland yesterday afternoon. So we have to get a lot of information from folks at many different levels, and we are prepared we are seeing a whole Government Approach to make sure people get the resources they need. But what we really need people to do is to pay attention and heed the warnings. So for many folks along the coast to have Evacuation Orders, people need to leave their homes now. These storms can completely engulfed the first story of a home, creating a lot of destruction. So its important that people keep this in mind and prepare, and evacuate if youve been told to evacuate. So and evacuate if youve been told to evacuate. And evacuate if youve been told to evacuate. So you flew into the eye told to evacuate. So you flew into the eye of told to evacuate. So you flew into the eye of the told to evacuate. So you flew into the eye of the storm, i told to evacuate. So you flew into the eye of the storm, is| into the eye of the storm, is that what you said . I into the eye of the storm, is that what you said . That what you said . I did fl in that what you said . I did flying to that what you said . I did flying to the that what you said . I did flying to the eye that what you said . I did flying to the eye of that what you said . I did flying to the eye of the l that what you said . I did flying to the eye of the storm. I sit on the Science Space Technology committee, they invited me onto this plane last year during a hurricane But, because it was my first year in congress, i want to focus on figuring out my process are processes here at home. Yesterday they gave me a call and i excepted, and we went to the eye of the storm, doing three penetrations on a plane that they nicknamed kermit, and i spent a lot of time with the scientists on that Plane Learning about how the work that the Hurricane Hunters do, its life saving. The data, the research they do help us understand more about the storm and how impact Human Lives, and how it can threaten Human Lives and property. So it was an honour to be on there, i learned a tonne about how the work they do is so important. Ended they have a sense that a storm like this, the size of it seen is normal . 0r Storm like this, the size of it seen is normal . Or is it as a result of the changing climate . I spoke with one of the scientists on board whos been a Hurricane Hunters since the Nineteen Eighties what he told me is the past two years, nothing has been normal in terms of the Hurricane Activity Weve seen. Going from Hellin A Week and a half ago, to seeing the storm, go from nothing about seven days ago, No One was tracking this to a category five ripping, causing destruction and moving towards the state of florida, nothing is normal about whats happening now. Speaking with folks on board, we know that the sciences because of our warming climate and this is impacting, warming the waters in the ocean, and that Water Acts as fuel for these hurricanes. 0n the flight, i heard from many scientists on board who have been doing this for long time, we flew into the lowest pressure ever, at 897 the pressure at the lowest point yesterday. This is really dangerous, and all these figures are just telling us and people at home to prepare and take this seriously. find people at home to prepare and take this seriously. Take this seriously. And when oure take this seriously. And when youre talking take this seriously. And when youre talking about take this seriously. And when youre talking about numbersj youre talking about numbers and facts, and figures, weve heard warnings about the impact of disinformation in terms of getting those messages across to the public. We see fema now even hosting a Fact Checking Page on its website to what extent is that dangerous politicisation of these Recovery And Rescue efforts concerning to you . Recovery and rescue efforts concerning to you . When it comes down concerning to you . When it comes down to concerning to you . When it comes down to emergency| comes down to Emergency Response efforts, every second matters. This is why its externally important that political leaders not be trying to use a Natural Disaster for political gain, spreading Misinformation And Disinformation. Because what happens is, if it takes someone more time to figure out the truth, thats more destruction, more death. And after these hurricanes, every second matters. A lot of people dont realise that a lot of the casualties that happen in these hurricanes actually happen shortly after the storm passes because of things like power outages, flooding and Storm Surge. The devastation of a storm doesnt end when the storm doesnt end when the storm leaves us, it continues here and theres lots of work to do in rebuilding and saving people, making sure we save lives. Thats why its important that sometimes we need political leaders, if you dont know what youre talking about, then shut up that wait, the people can hear directly from the authorities who know what theyre talking about and have the information and resources to give to the people. Every second matters, and this Misinformation And Disinformation can cause more issues, in terms of a response, But also cost us Human Lives. Democratic Congressman Maxwell Frost of florida, thanks so much forjoining us here on Bbc News and do Take Care there. You. Ill tell you, i was listening to the last interview hes exactly right. Weve done all we can at this juncture for preparation, and now we are setting our sites simply on after Storm Support and recovery. Its been amazing, the partners in the state, our state, or localfederal the partners in the state, our state, or local federal Law Dutch federal law enforcement, Public Safety partners ive been getting calls from all over, they are standing ready and prepared to show up if and when we need them following immediately that storm. When the Day Break comes, therell probably be hundreds of folks here ready to lend a hand. find here ready to lend a hand. And what happens here ready to lend a hand. We have | has somewhere to go. We have shelters all over the city in fact, every city in this entire region has plenty of shelters. People who have made that decision to stay, frankly if they are in a low lying area, Evacuation Letter a b, they are dumb. We saw the power of Hurricane Helene milton will be like nothing weve seen since 1921, it will be one of the most powerful hurricanes ever to hit the West Coast of florida. And i think people are under estimate dutch underestimating mother nature, and we will not do that in the city, we are not doing this at the Bradenton Police department. We are telling everybody is much as we can to get out. Beyond that, were just going to roll to recovery efforts. Unfortunately for some of these folks, we are afraid of these folks, we are afraid of what we will find if they make the decision to stay when milton comes rolling ashore. Well, once again tonight, The Sound of loud explosions from israeli Air Strikes are echoing around the capital. Were seeing those great plumes of Black Smoke on the horizon its worth taking a moment to consider really how extraordinary that is, the position we find ourselves in where that has become a normal thing, that, right in the heart of the lebanese capital, through the day and into the evening like this, were seeing the momentum increasing all the time when it comes to these Air Strikes. In the south of lebanon, as well, powerful strikes throughout the day more than 130 targets have been hit by the israeli air force, and we also know that israel have put more troops again into the south of the country. Benjamin netanyahu making this very strong statement earlier, speaking, he said directly to that lebanese people im not sure how many will actually see or understand that statement, it feels more like a message to the wider world, he threatened that if Hezbollah Wasnt removed from lebanon, this country could end up like gaza. The head of the Uk Security service, m15, has given a rare public Speech Warning that russia is on a mission to bring mayhem to the streets of the uk. But over the next couple of days, things will be turning just a little bit drier at the same time, though, as northerly winds develop, it will also turn colder. Low pressure is still in charge of the scene right now. This low still bringing some outbreaks of rain for parts of the uk. This deep low, ex hurricane kirk, thankfully staying well away to the south of us, bringing some very wet and very windy weather to northern parts of spain. Back home, some outbreaks of rain mostly quite patchy, quite showery in nature, But the Odd Heavy Burst across northern england, up into eastern scotland. Rather cloudy and damp for parts of wales, the north midlands. Northern ireland seeing a lot of clouds, some spots of Rain And Drizzle as well. Further south, South Wales, southern england, a mix of sunny spells and showers, 16 17 celsius. But Northern Scotland turning brighter, But colder later in the day as these brisk northerly winds kick in. Could even see some wintry showers over high ground in Northern Scotland, because temperatures really will be dropping away through Wednesday Night into the first part of thursday, with a frost across parts of scotland. A little bit milder further south first thing on thursday, But through the day, this Cold Air will be moving its way southwards. So, a very different feel to the weather, But actually, things dont look too bad. Certainly a drier day in prospect, some good spells of sunshine. Just a few showers around western and eastern coasts, where it will be quite windy for a time. Still the potential for some Wintriness Mixing in with the showers over the very highest ground in Northern Scotland. But these are the Afternoon Highs 8 13 celsius at best. Could well see a frost in parts of england and wales to start friday morning. Here, though, we should see some good spells of sunshine Northern Ireland not looking too bad, But we will see cloud and patchy rain getting into the northwest of scotland. Still feeling a little bit on the chilly side 8 9 celsius in the far north of scotland, 12 13 for South Wales and the south of england. Now into the weekend, High Pressure never too far away from Southern Parts so here, staying largely dry. Fairly weak frontal systems up to the north, bringing some rain at times. And if anything, those temperatures just creeping upwards a little bit by sunday, highs of 11 15 celsius. This is Bbc News.
