>> it's been another day of heavy bombardment, don, and various cities there in eastern ukraine. from kharkiv down south, into the lungs and the most regions. and it's been intense. there has been three people killed, 16 wounded in kharkiv. the bumping intensifies as you get into some of those smaller cities and villages there in eastern central ukraine and that is why you're hearing from ukrainian officials, pleading with people to evacuate to safety as quickly as they can that they're running out of time, and he described in more particular city, that have been taken over by russian forces, where there are a number of people left behind. civilians that weren't able to get out in time. union officials are describing those people simply as hostages. so, that bombardment continues. we anticipate to see more of that as russian forces really try to soften up ukrainian military forces there on the ground. and perhaps in lights in anticipating more of a ground incursion in the days ahead. so, expect more of this bombardment to continue. >> adds, relaying that keeps deputy mayor requested 200,000 respirators on the chance that there's a potential chemical opens attack. what's up with the? >> yeah, these respirators, essentially got masks, there's still a concern, and it's backed up by u.s. intelligence official who says that they do not believe that the risk of russians using chemical weaponry is still something that could very likely happen. and they often to support that. and there's also an issue with just getting gas mask supplies and respirators in a timely fashion. there's a great deal of demand for this kind of equipment. and so, getting it into the country would be very difficult. it will be a logistical challenge. i believe that's why you are seeing this request for the storm to thousand gas masks to get a little bit ahead of what could be logistical problems and getting that kind of equipment here into the country. but the bigger picture is that they don't really believe that -- or they believe there's ally risk that russia uses chemical weapons here at some point, even here included in the area around kyiv. >> yeah, listen this one tragic sore after another. you reported today on us and looking for his missing father near kyiv. tell us about that. >> yeah, this is a 22-year-old man whose father won missing on march 8th the last eczema surges the soil from his father was that he was driving into some areas just west of kyiv to help evacuate a friend. in areas that are being taken over by russian forces. and, this has been a soggy offer this family of trying to track down where the father's. he has disappeared, they've not been able to find him. they've only really been able to start driving around in the last week. and so, they go everywhere, a search, looking for his car,'s description of, them and have no luck so far. you go to police stations and some people on the streets asking them if they had pictures of his father. to see if they had any luck. and this really highlights, don, the challenge on the overwhelming nature of what is left in the wake of russian forces evacuating this area around northern kyiv. hundreds of people buried's in mass graves when you i identified the conditions of the bodies. it's an describable jam, so to be able to identify the victims of this war is a challenge. and there is no such away families like this to be able to figure out and put all the pieces of this puzzle together. so it just remains a mystery. this family, this father, as far, no simply vanished. >> heart wrenching, it's an exposed kabul why they're doing this. thanks edelman there, we appreciate reporting. . russia says it is a new phase of vladimir putin's war, but i much worse will things yet? [ applause ] to fix that, we should demand that parents have access to their child's kcurriculum. >> let's discuss with ana navarro and cnn political analyst natasha alfred are both here. hi, everyone. senator scott digging in on critical race theory. kids notsorers oppressors, what did you think of his speech? >> interesting and powerful because it's hard to argue with tim scott because tim scott is a black man who grew up in the south. so when he says this is what i live and you can call me this and do this and that, it's hard to argue with somebody's lived experience. i also thought it was interesting he was doing it and is or used to be lhallowed groud for republicans. he's not doing it at mar-a-lago or cpac but at the regan library. he kept bringing up abraham lincoln and ronald reagan. i'm not sure either of them can get past a republican primary in today's republican party. it sounded to me like the speech of somebody that wanted to go further than the senate. that being said, i am disappointed that he didn't speak more about the need to read "beloved" by tony morrison and didn't read "the cage bird sings" by maya angelou and learning the history of emmet teal to put in the context the reaction of george floyd's death. this idea that people want to make little white children feel oppressed is a manufactured outrage. and it's being used by some to erase the teaching of history. and that is where i think tim scott's voice needs to be raised. >> natasha, glenn youngkin won the race in virginia on the campaign of parental rights. is the playbook trade and true at this point? are democrats doing to fight back here? >> well, don, it's a winning strategy. when you look at all of the bills that have been introduced to essentially silence the teaching of real history, they have identical language. these bills are trying to silence any talk of white privilege and what they do, which is really, really strategic is they constantly bring up mlk, dr. martin looloourt luther king junior which i wish they would stop and use the line about color blindness. this is not what dr. king necessarily stood for ignorance, he stood for us knowing the truth of what is going on in this country and in fact, some argue that's why he died because he was speaking about the truth. so you can turn a blind eye to the issue. kids are going to see what is happening in this country and it's a question whether we empower them with a historical complex to understand it or allow them to stay ignorignoran >> there is a difference judging by content of character and skin. the two are not synonymous and do not mean the same thing, natasha. >> yeah, unfortunately, we have a generation that will not be able to tell the difference if you remove these conversations from the classroom or if you create legislation that has a chilling effect for teachers, right? who fear if they have certain conversations they will be punished and that is the entire intent is to chill that conversation and it's unfortunate it keeps happening. it's history repeating itself, which means we never learn from it. >> quick response, anna, please. >> i don't know that it's such a trade and true and it will get tested, right? it will get tested in november, a trade and true formula because it's not actually being implemented. it not just a theory and campaign slogan and we're seeing teachers quit and math books, math, math books be banned because of crt and offensive content. we are seeing a war against disneyworld and in the meantime, people like me in florida are sitting here going well, we need access to home insurance. we need access to affordable housing. we need something to be done about the condo laws so that buildings don't collapse and kill the people trapped in there and our state government is so busy legislating and waging manufactured wars against mickey mouse and disneyworld and against "beloverd" and maya angelou but the needs of floridians isn't being met. i'm not sure if five more months of this will be as good as republicans think it was. >> we'll see. >> this is is always effective because it's personal, right? it worked during segregation. it is a tactic that is meant to divide and it's meant to play to people's fears, that's what they are doing. >> thank you both. appreciate it. we'll be right back. are you taking a statin drug to reduce cholesterol? it can also deplete your coq10 levels. i recommend considering qunol coq10 along with your statin medi. the brand i trust is qunol (music throughout) this is "don lemon tonight." ukraine saying it's intercepted russian communications declaring their military's intent to level a steel plant sheltering hundreds of civilians. that's in mariupol,
