called the student a "future welfare recipient." all the comments were caught on camera. you airline passengers, you are used to shelling out money for a lot of things to that airline, but you'll hear a story this morning of passengers actually paying for the fuel pore their flight. thank you very much for being here on this "cnn saturday morning." i'm t.j. holmes. reynolds wolf is about to join me, because we have a weather situation that is causing fits for firefighters fighting a fire this is going on in northwestern nevada. this is a fast-moving fire fueled by strong winds and dry terrain it is threatening hundreds of home. thousands are without electr electricity around the reno area, but most of those folks do have their power back on now. this fire is a day old and has grown to three square miles. tragically, at least one person has been killed as a result of this fire. also one firefighter had to be taken to the hospital with injuries. schools were closed yesterday. as many as 10,000 people had to be evacuated. 20 homes have been destroyed. we are talking about wind gusts of up to 85 miles per hour. let me get reynolds wolf in on this. good morning. the winds still causing a problem or are they dying down? >> they're done. winds dropping. winds 5 to 10 miles per hour today. that's the good news. humidity is back up. yesterday we had the hurricane-force winds and the low humidity. when you have the dry conditions and the strong wind, the strong win will propel those flames. the situation you have in this area, you have a big range of mountains. we refer to those as the sierra nevada mountains. as you have the wind that rides over these mountains what happens is the wind will go over and then a lot of that moisture will stay on what we call the windward side of the sierra nevada. all your rain and snow will drop in places like lake tahoe, but reno not as much precipitation. yesterday we had the dry conditions, coupled with the winds. today the winds will die down, so that will help. that being said, you already have a fire that's burning. about three miles up in flames. they will have a tough time working today. hopefully mother nature will cooperate with them. we are having a few issues with our weather wall. we will try to get that out of way. we have some video. plain and simply, we have flames everywhere. assistance will come in from a storm that we see further out towards the west. the storm out to the west, this system over here over parts of the pacific coast that will make its way off to the east. that might bring more humidity back in to help the firefighters. in the meantime, snow and a lot of wind up in the northern plains. four to seven inches of snowfall, 30, 40, 50 miles per hour could give you whiteout conditions along i-90. twin cities, you will get the snow, but sunny and mild for much of the seaboard. all right, t.j., you're up to speed in the forecast. we'll give this thing the fonzie kick and see if we can get it working. >> all right. let's turn to politics. an important event today for the republican presidential hopefuls. paul steinhauser tells us why most of the candidates are in iowa and why one is not. >> reporter: good morning. with just over six weeks to go to the iowa caucuses -- >> i'm always reminded when i show up in iowa, the pundits always think they're the ones that pick presidents. no it's the people of iowa that pick the presidents. >> reporter: texas governor richterry along with newt gingrich, herman cain, michele bachmann, they all speak today. conservative voters will have a big say in determines which republican candidate wins the iowa caucuses. while most gop hopefuls will be in the state today, mitt romney will not. he is campaigning in new hampshire, which votes second in the race for the white house. t.j.? >> tuesday night, right here on cnn, the republicans running for president will gather just steps away from the white house for a presidential debate on national security and the economy. this is a cnn debate, that's tuesday 8:00 eastern right here on cnn. herman cain is now being protected by the u.s. secret service. a source inside the government tells cnn that the cain campaign asked for protection after the candidate got some unspecified threats. here's how cain responded yesterday to questions about adding the secret service. the thing about secret service is that things are secret, so we don't discuss any details about it because that would not be appropriate. later in the day, cain admitted there were things he encountered in new hampshire that made it a little uncomfortable. it looks like a possible failure on the debt reduction deal is looming, but members of the super committee say they are planning on working through the weekend to come up with a deal by monday. but the deadline for the deal on $1.2 trillion in deficit savings is wednesday. they say they have to have it done and in the hands of the budget office on monday to get everything in order in time for a wednesday vote. so monday is the day. >> we were sent here to do 1.2 trillion or 1.5 trillion or 4 trillion. so the idea on friday of settling for half of what the american people need and what we were sent here to do is unacceptable to me. >> kerry is one of the members of that super committee. republican pat toomey sounded more optimistic. >> the hour is late. by law, our work on this committee must be completed by this coming week. i remain hopeful that we can complete our goal. i urge our democratic colleagues to join us on this issue. >> this whole thing came about after that debt ceiling debate that happened in the summer. one of the main sticking points is revenue, we mean taxes. republicans proposed a tax to the change code to raise some revenue, but democrats are not going for that. if no deal is reached automatic cuts go into effect. that would happen until 2013. >> we did see these occupy movements all across the country, they were commemorating the two-month anniversary of when the whole occupy wall street movement started. we saw arrests in new york and a big showing across the country. we also saw some scuffles and back and forth between demonstrators and police. take a look at this one. now, a lot of people are outr e outraged by this video. you see the demonstrators sitting on the ground and being pepper sprayed by a police officer this is at the university of california at davis. they refused to move tents they sent up. the campus is upset about rising tuition costs. police defend their action here's saying they were concerned for their own safety. turning to pennsylvania now where the charity started by former penn state coach jerry sandusky may shut down. the ceo of second mile stepped down earlier this week. sandusky has been accused of sexually assaulting at least eight young boys he met through that charity. the new ceo of second mile says closing down is just one of the options they're now considering. also a moment last night for the oklahoma state football team. they stopped to pay tribute to two women's basketball coaches killed in a plane crash earlier friday. the head coach, kirk budke and the assistant coach died when their plane went down in arkansas during a recruiting trip. the number two ranked football team did end up losing that game last night in overtime to iowa state, 37-31. an embarrassing and potentially dangerous situation in australia involving the president. a booklet loaded with confidential details of the president's trip was found lying in a gutter. we'll have the details from australia and talk to the reporter who found that book. stay with me. oh my gosh, oh my gosh.. look at these big pieces of potato. ♪ what's that? [ female announcer ] we all age differently. roc® multi-correxion 4 zone moisturizer with roc®retinol and antioxidants. lines, wrinkles, and sun damage will fade. roc multi-correxion. correct what ages you. about 11 minutes past the hour, president obama is heading home this morning after wrapping up a week-long trip to asia. the trip focused on job creation and cooperation, but one of the headlines centers on a potentially disastrous security slip-up. look at that right there, that's a confidential program detailing the president's trip to australia. he was there earlier in the week. the sydney morning herald reports that book containing secret service plans, placements of strike teams designed to protect the president and minute by minute details of the president's movements, including what side of the limo he is supposed to get out of. what makes this worse is where the book was found -- it was found in a gutter near the australian parliament. joining me on the phone is dillon welch from "the sydney morning herald." am i right, you found the book? >> that's right, t.j. good morning, all. >> did you realize what you had found at the time? how long did it take you to figure out? >> funny enough, it was early in the morning, i had not had much sleep, 6:00 in the morning. we had to arrive three hours early for the president's event at the australian war memorial at 9:00 in the morning. it looked to me like a discarded notebook. i walked past it, then my brain clicked, wait a minute, the u.s. president is here. i picked it up, it looked official. said this is interesting. i was in such a rush until about 2:00 p.m. that i didn't even look at it. when i finally got back to the office after all the presidential events, i went through it and realized that it was certainly something that you wouldn't have wanted, say, a foreign intelligence service to pick up. >> and we have it right. an important detail is that you found it while the president was still in australia. >> yeah. he would have been there for about another 14 hours. so, there is a big "if" in this story. the big if is if it's foreign intelligence or lone wolf person with significant capability, but if they did find it, they would have had 14 hours, and during those 14 hours they would have known to the minute where the president was, what his convoy was comprised of and they would have even known which side of the limo he would have been getting out of. >> dylan, what kind of reaction have you gotten from the white house and the administration in response to what you found? did you try to give it back with them? as a reporter, you know, you have your hands on something, but you know there's a serious security issue here. >> like i said, by the time i realized how significant it was and i went through some stuff, the president had left our nation's capital and gone to the northern city, so i think there was people -- people were fairly -- they weren't too concerned about the immediate threat, but certainly not pleased i had it. i returned it the next day to the prime minister's office. i think, to be frank, though, they stayed fairly quiet about it. i don't think it is to the australian government's benefit to be talking about it, and to be frank i haven't been able to get ahold of the white house since then. it >> dylan welch, thank you for your time. interesting there that you found this but thank you very much for the time and an interesting find down under. thank you very much. we are working here at cnn as well to try to get comment from the white house and from others about what this book is, exactly what is in it and how this kind of happened. but they're being pretty mum at this point so far and not giving us comments. about a quarter past the hour now and the deals are coming on this black friday, less than a week away. one of the biggest shopping days of the year. would you believe black friday, yes, is almost a week from now, but people are already lining up and camped out to get the deals. we'll show you where this is happening. also another deal doesn't appear to be happening. this one in washington. the so-called super committee running out of time. so what is the sticking point? that's next. it's the second career you always wanted. today's the day! and i've been looking forward to this for a long time. it's gonna be a big change. you ready? wow! just what i hoped for! just what you planned for. thanks! [ male announcer ] no need to wait with our christmas price guarantee. we're so confident in our prices if you do find a lower one between now and christmas, we'll give you the difference on a walmart gift card. save money. live better. walmart. give you a look now at some students across country. and a chain reaction crash in oceanside, california. take a look at this scene. an suv embedded in a vacant building. police say it rear-ended two other cars triggering the accident. the suv then jumped a curb, hit a 59-year-old man before careening into the building. the pedestrian was airlifted to the hospital. he was seriously injured. the suv driver was taken to the cam pendleton hospital, and two marines wound up with minor injuries. georgetown, south carolina, a sinkhole swallowed up the foundation of this building in a shopping mall causing it partially to collapse. you can see what's left of the roof and walls. no injuries but clean-up work will be happening all weekend. firefighters will be inspecting other buildings. and this may be going a bit too far. we all know the day after thanksgiving is known as black friday, that's when the stores have those really good deals. can you believe people are already camping out for friday's deals? this is what it looks like outside one best buy store in st. petersburg, florida one family pitched their tent on monday. they're not moving until they get a good deal on a tv. here's a story i want you to chime in on this morning. this is out of kansas city where a high school basketball coach is on paid administrative leave right now after some controversial comments. the coach's name is derek howard. people have now filed a racial harassment complaint against him. the people i'm talking about are parents of a student. let me explain what happened. marcus williams is a student at the center of this he's a high school student in kansas city. he said his coach, coach howard, was speaking to him or has been speaking to him for a while now in negative and in a racially demeaning way. so he's done this with other african-american kids, according to the student. williams said the latest incident, he was able to capture it on his cell phone camera. williams, the student, said he was taking a picture from a photograp photography class and the coach was walking by. take a listen to what happened. >> he stopped and he was like, hey, take the picture and when you take the picture, at the bottom label it future welfare recipient. and i was just like -- i'm kind of hurt. they were just laughing. >> that wasn't the end of it. the student, again, he says he has been through this and heard negative comments from this coach before. so he grabbed his cell phone and actually said, hey, coach what did you just say? look at what the coach did. >> future welfare recipient. who. >> who? >> students who don't get their grades. >> you don't just hurt my son, you hurt me and us as a community. we don't have to stand for that. >> this has really set off the kid's parents. williams and his father filed a racial harassment complaint. the school system did put out a statement saying the behaviors reported by this student do not reflect our professional conduct standards and will not be tolerated. we expect all students to be treated with respect by all staff at all times. what do you think about this? aw! camera shy. snapshot from progressive. plug into the savings you deserve with snapshot from progressive. at the bottom of the hour now on this "cnn saturday morning." welcome back. let me get you caught up on some things we're keeping an eye on today. wildfires in nevada have forced at least 10,000 people to evacuate. they had wind gusts out there of about 85 miles per hour at some point over the past 24 hours that caused this thing to get going and moving. they are expecting lighter winds for you today. at least one person has been killed as a result of those wildfires. u.s. diplomatic sources say iran's nuclear program will soon lead to new financial sanctions from the united states and the european union. sources say the sanctions would target the petrochemical industry. this follows more concerns from the u.n. over the intent of iran's nuclear program. in syria, more street protests against the government. on the diplomatic front syria has conceded to an arab-league plan to allow neutral observers in the country. an estimated 3,500 people have died this year in anti-government demonstrations. months after terrorists attacked a kabul hotel, a website shows fighters reportedly planning the assault. 11 civilians were killed in that attack along with two afghan policemen and nine of the attackers. 30 years after actress natalie wood drowned off southern california, police have reopened the case. woods death was ruled and accident. the actress had been on a yacht with was her husband, actor robert wagner and actor christopher walken. the captain says after woods could not be found on the boat, wagner waited four hours to notify the coast guard. the wagner family issued a statement saying they fully support the efforts of the l.a. county sheriff's department and trust that they will evaluate whether any new information relating to the death of natalie wood wagner is valid and that it comes from a credible source rather than sources trying to profit from the anniversary of her 30-year death. lana wood talked to piers morgan about it. >> i would prefer to always believe that r.j. would never do anything to hurt natalie and he loved her dearly, which he did. i don't believe that whatever went on was deliberate. i've always cared about him. i always will care about him. and i would prefer to continue living the prior explanations, but i don't think that's going to happen. and it's -- as i said, it's very painful. >> police have emphasized that wagner is not a suspect in this case. just past the bottom of the hour now. bringing you some developments out of libya about one of moammar gadhafi's sons. let's get on the line with our reporter, jomana. he was saif gadhafi, seen as the successor at one point. what do we know? >> t.j. what we understand now from a number of different sources here, senior military commanders in tripoli are telling us that saif gadhafi, the most wanted son of moammar gadhafi has been captured by revolutionary fighters in the sahara desert. we understand the capture was made in the town of ubari, in southwest libya, not too far from the algerian border. saif gadhafi is wanted for crimes against humanity. he has been on the run since august, since before the fall of the capital, tripoli. we are hearing outbursts of celebratory gunfire, people honking their horns celebrating what they have been waiting for for a long time. >> all right. jomana with the news for us. cnn continues to work to confirm, but the word is that saif gadhafi, you probably recognize that face, he was visible during the time of the uprising, speaking on behalf of his father and the government at the time. but the word is saif gadhafi has been captured in libya, possibly trying to flee but has been captured. we will turn back to politics here in a moment and the rise of newt gingrich. up in the polls, with just six weeks to go until the iowa caucuses, but can he keep this up? stay with me. rt. my mother said, "well, maybe we ought to buy this hot dog cart and set it up someplace." so my parents went to bank of america. they met with the branch manager and they said, "look, we've got this little hot dog cart, and it's on a really good corner. let's see if we can buy the property." and the branch manager said, "all right, i will take a chance with the two of you." and we've been loyal to bank of america for the last 71 years. turning to politics now. pretty busy week for the republican presidential candidates, but isn't every week now until iowa? bigger news may be coming out of washington, the debt super committee is running out of time to reach a deal on spending cuts. here with me now is matt towery, former campaign adviser to newt gingrich. and lee may, democratic county commissioner in suburban atlanta's dekalb county. let me start with this, you don't have to get into it, yes or no. will they reach a deal? >> no. >> no. >> absolutely not. >> absolutely not. what does this tell us about washington? the big debt deal. already some people don't think much of what's coming out of washington. will this hurt them more? >> they kick the can always. nobody thought the super committee was a good idea other than the people on the super committee. you already have a split off group called the gang of six rising, trying to offer another alternative. i think lee would agree, everybody is playing to their own constituencies. republicans realize conservatives and independents are important this year, they can't vote for tax increases, and democrats can't settle anything without tax enhancements. >> so who will get the blame when this goes down? >> all of congress. with the 9% approval rating, all of congress. this is the worst game of football ever. this is a football game with, you know, no touchdowns, no field goals. it's a football game full of punts. so an unattractive game, you wouldn't want to watch it they're just kicking the can down the road. >> moving on from that, going back to a guy you used to work for, newt gingrich. can he keep this up until iowa? >> i think he can. he is in a precarious situation, he sort of made his peak early. he would have done better had it been after thanksgiving. 2008, if you recall, we did the cnn youtube debate after thanksgiving, we went into the holidays, mike huckabee won that debate and never looked back. during christmas people don't care about politics. then you get into the early iowa caucus. gingrich so far is weathering the storm better than i thought he would he's quieter than he used to be, not just firing left or right. he has to get his story down right, but so far it's not penetrating as much as the herman cain issue because it's not as "sexy." >> talk about the republicans, as you watch this as a democrat, what do you think they're thinking at the white house as they are watching what's happening on the republican side? >> they're loving this. this is showing either the republicans don't know what they want or they have such a high standard that none of the candidates are able to fulfill their needs. >> who does the white house not want to go up against in that group? >> i think they don't want to go up against newt gingrich, i think they don't want to go up against mitt romney either. but, you know, at the end of the game, it's going to be such a battle that goes on. the candidate that comes out will be bruised. it's going to be like the game of "survivor," you will be on the island -- >> newt is not the one, given his background, history -- >> they all have baggage. newt just has a longer tenure of baggage to bring to the table. if he can make it through this portion of the primary as the nominee, then he'll have more time to be able to filter through that. >> i think the other point to be made here is that i don't think the white house really is as afraid of newt gingrich as they are mitt romney. the reason you've been seeing all these things come out about herman cain, newt gingrich and the like -- i run these campaigns, i know how they are. reporters were pitched on the herman cain story months ago. reporters told me so. don't be shocked that the romney folks are not floating some of this gingrich stuff right now. if i were running the campaign i might do the same thing. >> cain, we've seen more polls come out, he runs in number three of them as opposed to one or two as he has been. lee, has he at least steadied the ship, if you will? on top of this, we have another national security debate coming up. after what happened down in flori florida with his comment about speaking cuban and libya -- >> i think you will see herman cain fade to the background. it just shows that he wasn't really ready for the big time. can he get ready in the next six weeks? >> no. he's made so many blunders now. i think his campaign wasn't prepared for such a steep trajectory they made over the past weeks. >> is it fair to say that -- a lot of people say he didn't want to be president any way, he's just promoting a book. were they surprised at their own success? >> they did not have enough money. apparently what happened is the travel agency in england didn't pay comtel air. but have a look. you're seeing passengers actually give money, around 200 or so dollars, if they didn't have the money -- wait for this one -- they were escorted into the airport building and at the atms told to get cash. do you travel with about $200 on you every time? >> these folks had to go -- >> yes. >> i thought the flight would stop right here -- those are their options. we will not be able to take to you your destination or get the money. >> we need to get around $30,000. they're finally clapping because it means we are taking off. those people who didn't have the money didn't get to go to england. but i want to hear from one very frustrated passenger about the ordeal. let's hear from him and the gentleman we will hear from actually took some of the photographs you're seeing. >> it was a complete and utter sham. i could not believe was i was witnessing. it was as if we were being held hostage, you know, against our wills with the 24,000 pounds -- which we all eventually had to pay, being the ransom. so, it's -- it was just a nightmare. >> can you imagine that? because the travel agency is british, even though the airline is austrian, the british aviation authority will refund the money. >> good. >> and is going to help those stranded in vienna to get back to england. but can you imagine? >> this is incredible. i hope airlines are paying attention to this for the right reasons. some airline executives, hum, maybe we can find a way -- >> exactly. more money, never mind charging for food, let's charge for fuel. >> we have another story, another outrage story about an airline. this is out of hong kong. i'm sure you heard of this one. the passengers -- i was proud of them for this -- they staged a sit-in. the airline had them sitting through a nine-hour delay, all right? you heard some of these horror stories, people sitting on tarmacs. this was in hong kong. when the hong kong airlines flight finally landed where it was supposed to land 5:00 a.m. wednesday morning after that nine-hour delay, some of the passengers refused to leave the flight until they were compensated. they wanted to be refouunded moy for unused hotel rooms. initially the airline offered 50 bucks, the passengers said, no we won't settle for that. they held out and the airline paid them $150. >> it's a matter of principle. >> it is. to make the point. after they sat there for nine hours, they sat there for another five. i don't think i had it in me. >> if you think about it, here you have the comtel air passengers, let's hope they get refunded, too but is it worth the hassle to get the money back? >> absolutely. this is the latest food fight in washington, d.c. and the holiday shopping season is here. we have details on how you can get gifts but also save that money. hello to you all. i'm t.j. holmes this is your "cnn saturday morning." wherever you may be, we are glad you are right here. let's begin with the breaking story out of libya, where saif gadhafi has been captured in southern libya near the algerian border. he is one of the most recognizable men in libya behind his father. he had been on the run since opposition forces took control in tripoli. saif gadhafi is wanted for alleged crimes against humanity. we are just getting this word that he was captured. much more on this story throughout the morning. just past the top of the hour. we will turn to weather and a big firefight going on in reno, nevada. a fast-moving wildfire fueled by gusty winds, dry terrain is threatening hundreds of homes. thousands of people lost fire. the fire is just about a day old. people who evacuated their homes are still in a state of shock. no word on how the fire got started. not important right now how it got started, it's important to get this thing out and weather is playing a role. >> certainly did yesterday when we had winds well above hurricane force. today the winds will drop. at the same time the humidity will be back up. the thing that really sparked this flame, accelerated the flames, caused burn to enhance is due to a storm system that pulled well to the north. high pressure over parts of the great basin. the two working in concert made for some strong winds. they were basically coming in from the southwest over the sierra nevada. normally when you have storm systems that move oversee yarea sierra nevada, you have rain and snow. what happens is one side robs the moisture, the other side gets the deficit and also the wind. that's what happened with reno. today the humidity is back up, with that the winds will drop. a lot of work. three miles completely scorched. the weather system that caused that to happen will cause delays out to the west and could see delays not only in san francisco but further to the east, in fact in boston, the midwest delays, miami and minneapolis getting in on the action. the storm system that brought the winds to the four corners and the great basin moving into the rockies and the central plains. before the day is out, that will move to the twin cities bringing snow and strong winds there. in terms of the snow s becau, bt is leaving the high terrain, will you see some snow. dakotas, three to seven inches of snowfall. with sustained winds of 25 miles per hour to 35 miles per hour, that will knock things around. isn't that right, t.j.? what we will be seeing is whiteout conditions for parts of i-90. this storm system will drive its way towards the great lakes. for places like green bay, mainly a rain event. on the other side of the boundary, it's all snow action. as we wrap things up from the great lakes, your high today in chicago, 55 in minneapolis, you're only going up to about 36. once that storm gets closer, your temperatures will be pummelled. 68 in kansas city. 68 for memphis. 80 in new orleans. 59 albuquerque. san francisco with 57 degrees. all right, t.j., back to you. >> construction going on. >> what was that noise? >> thanks as always to paul steinhauser. remember, tuesday night right here on cnn, the republicans running for president will gather steps away from the white house for a presidential debate on national security and the economy. cnn hosting this debate co-hosted by the heritage foundation and the american enterprise institute. that's tuesday on cnn. one of those presidential candidates, herman cain is now being protected by the u.s. secret service. a source inside the government tells cnn that the cain campaign asked for protection after the candidate got some unspecified threats. this is how cain responded yesterday to questions about getting that secret service protection. >> the thing about secret service is that things are secret, so we don't discuss any details about it because that would not be appropriate. >> later in the day, cain admitted there were things he encountered in new hampshire that made the campaign a little uncomfortable. that's all the detail he would give. six minutes past the hour. back in washington, d.c., looks like another failure on a debt reduction deal is looming. but members of the so-called super committee say they're planning on working through the weekend to come up with a deal by monday. the deadline for the deal on $1.2 trillion in deficit savings is actually on wednesday. but they have to have it in the hands of the budget office by monday so they can get everything in order in time for a wednesday vote. monday is the deadline now. >> we were sent here to do 1.2 trillion or 1.5 trillion or 4 trillion. so the idea on friday of settling for half of what the american people need and what we were sent here to do is unacceptable to me. >> kerry is one of the 12 members of that super committee. it's split six republicans, six democrats. one of the republicans, pat toomey, sounds more optimistic. >> the hour is late. by law, our work on this committee must be completed by this coming week. i remain hopeful that we can complete our goal. i urge our democratic colleagues to join us in this effort. this whole thing came about after that sometimes nasty debt ceiling debate over the summer, you remember that one? we got another food fight in washington, d.c. this is about pizza, salt, french fries. that delicious stuff. less than a year after president obama signed the healthy hunger free kids act, congress may undo some of those standards for school nutrition. the school wanted to limit starch and sodium and promote whole grains, but if the latest legislation passes, it would keep french fries on trays, allow a serving of pizza to be considered a vegetable if it is spread with two tablespoons of tomato paste. this is causing some controversy, so i brought in a dietitian to me understand this. how in the world can you classify pizza as a vegetable? >> well, two tablespoons of tomato paste is considered a vegetable -- >> is that ridiculous? >> actually -- well, tomato paste, two tablespoons that 25 calories two grams of fiber and some minerals. technically it could. what concerns me is how are you going to regulate and make sure that two tablespoons of tomato paste is getting on each slice of pizza. >> you can't do that. >> right. >> and you have to make sure the tomato paste they're purchasing is just tomatoes no additives. i think that, again, is going to be hard to regulate. >> now, the standard they wanted to bring it up to, would go up to a half a cup of tomato paste. that might have been the new standard. if you have that much tomato paste on a piece of pizza, would that qualify as healthier? >> it's not necessarily about the tomato paste, it's about the pizza as a whole. and you can't classify pizza as a healthy food item because it has two tablespoons or a half cup of tomato paste on there if you're not using whole wheat crust and real low-fat cheese. >> what are schools using these days? will a typical pizza have whole wheat crust -- >> no. >> so in your mind, pizzas don't belong in schools? >> i don't believe so unless they use the whole wheat crust, the two tablespoons of tomato paste and low-fat cheese. >> what are they supposed to be eating -- you're telling me this is off limits, but this is probably still typical what should kids be eating in schools? >> i brought two examples. >> all right. >> i always recommend my families include one thing from every food group. it's easy and low-cost. so you can do a piece of grilled chicken, low-fat plain milk, brown rice, an apple and then your mixed vegetables. that lo >> that looks great here, but is the only way for a kid to get that for a parent to pack a lunch like that? >> usually school also have a hotline kids can go through. they have that as an option. kids don't always take that option because they are choosing the pizza and the burgers and fries. >> is it a disappointment to you to see congress might roll back some of the healthier lunch choices? >> it is. we know childhood obesity is an epidemic and school is a place to learn, and that should expand into nutrition and school choices. how can we expect them to learn about good nutrition if we are not offering healthier choices in lunch. >> the task you're up against, you, literally, are having to battle lobbyists in washington. that's how these changes come good. how difficult is your task to teach a parent or student when, quite frankly, a lobbyist can go up, do their thing in washington and get these regulations overturned?
