hill he's facing a grilling from republican about the origins of covid-19. >> also today for the first time in history, the son of the sitting president of the united states is on trial. jury hey, selection now underway in hunter biden's federal gun case and history is being made. mexico elected its first female president claudia sheinbaum. we'll have a live report. >> hello, i'm wolf blitzer in washington and urine the cnn newsroom happening. now up, i'm capitol hill republican lawmakers are turning up the heat on the man who led the us government's response to the covid pandemic dr. anthony fauci faces more questions on that response and the origins of the virus that killed nearly 1.2 million americans. dr. fauci will also face questions about email exchanges involving one of his top advisers a subpoena from the republican-led committee turned up emails were dr. david borons appears appears to be trying to avoid public record laws cnn's lauren foxes up on capitol hill for us, see then medical correspondent back tirrell is also joining us along with dr. paul off eddies, the director of the vaccine education center of the children's hospital in philadelphia and a member of the fda vaccine advisory committee, lauren, what will republican lawmakers underscore in today's hearing? >> yeah. i just love to the hearing room. wolf and one thing is very clear. they are trying to lay out in specific detail why they believe dr. fauci has not been entirely on it about the origins of the covid-19 pandemic. now for his part doctor fauci in his opening statement, defendant has actions during the beginning of that a pandemic laying out in details precisely the steps that he took in trying to understand the origins of the pandemic. he also made clear because of questions about some of his subordinates email practices that he to the best of his knowledge, he said this in his opening statement, never used his person it's an old email to conduct official business that obviously is going to be something that republicans are going to continue to press him at in this hearing, we should note that this the first time the doctor fauci is appearing before a public committee hearing since he retired from nih in 2022, he did appear though back in january in 2d subsequent days, private testimony behind closed doors 14 hours in total, where he answered some of the same questions we expect he will get again today for their part, democrats are defending fauci is saying that he is not some villain that republicans are trying to paint him as. here's representative raskin this investigation of dr. fauci shows that he is an honorable public servant, committed the public health and he is not a comic book supervillain. >> he did not fund research to create the covid-19 pen denmark. he did not lie to congress about gain of function research and wu han, and he did not organize a lab leak suppression campaign to cover his tracks and the questioning is just beginning in this hearing, but already you're seeing from democrats that they are saying getting dr. fouchier for his service during the pandemic, for his long tenure at nih. >> they are also laying out the importance of the vaccine that he helped shepherd through the process it says over the course of the pandemic saying that it's saved lives. that is something else. so you can expect republicans are going to be pressing on in the days and hours ahead. >> or excuse me wolff, sorry, lawrence them by i want to get back to you, but i want to bring in meg right now. meg, what are the medical topics likely to be covered in today's hearing well well, i mean, what you heard from lauren is really what the focus is today. >> there isn't a lot of scientific discussion going on, at least good faith efforts, it seems to talk about the origins of this virus necessarily early or scientific questions about actions taken early on in the pandemic, we did here in an exchange between the chairman and dr. fauci about the efficacy of the covid vaccine of the republican's of press, dr. fauci on claims at the beginning of the pandemic that the vaccine bended transmission and things like that. fauci says, you at the beginning, it did look like the vaccine could stop cases of covid, but as time went on, it became clear that that didn't last. but what he did point out is that the vaccine has proven to be quite durable in terms of preventing severe disease and death from covid. he was then asked, is the vaccine 100% effective? and he said but i don't think any vaccine is 100% effective, so we are hearing some scientific and medical questions peppered in here, but primarily the discussion really has been about dr. faltys oversight of questions about the origin of the virus. dr. grouchy really coming in and wanting to address four topics off the top, which really had to do with that as well as people bill on his staff who've come into attention for potentially behavior that was not seen as the right way to be transparent about the early days of the pandemic and grants to a certain group ecohealth alliance. but well, folks, i've talked with on both sides of the aisle and the public health community not expecting a ton of scientific revelations coming out of this hearing today, more sort of political focused on max down, but i want to quickly listen and to at least part of this hearing that's ongoing right now, let's listen with a copy of the christian andersen, but you sent it to professor jeremy for our jeremy, i just got off the phone with christian andersen and he related to me his concern about the purine site mutation in this spike protein of the currently circulating 2019 and cov i told them that as soon as possible, he and eddie home should get a group of evolutionary biologists together to carefully examine the data to determine if his concerns are validated, he should do this very quickly. and if everyone agrees with this concern, they should report it to the appropriate authorities. i would imagine that in the usa, this would be the fbi in the uk, it would be m, m five, it would be important to quickly get confirmation of the cause of his concerned by experts in the field of coronaviruses and evolutionary biology in the meantime, i will alert my us government official colleagues of my conversation with you and christian and determine what further investigation they recommend. let us stay in touch. best regards, tony, was this the email where you were putatively trying to cover up? >> the possibility of a lab league yes. congressman raskin, an ester reason why i mentioned in my opening statement that is it inconceivable that anyone could get out of that that i was covering anything up would you have any reason to cover up? >> any new scientific evidence relating to the origins of the covid-19 virus absolutely not. >> and that's the reason why it was important to get people together that to discuss this in a transparent way. >> have you spent your whole life trying to determine the causes? of infectious diseases and then to stop them to protect the american people? >> yes, i have. >> well dr. fauci i want to join my colleague from florida and apologizing to you that some of our colleagues, the united states house of representatives, seem to want to drag your name through the mud they're treating you, dr. fauci, like a convicted felon actually, you probably wish they were treating you like a convicted felon. they treat convicted felons with love and admiration some of them blindly worship convicted felons is there anything else you would like to say to the american people about your service to america during the course of the covid-19 pandemic my main job during the covid pandemic was to play a role with my team at the vaccine research center to develop a safe and effective vaccine. >> and we did that in an unprecedented short period of time, never seen before in the annals of x allergy. as we all know, that vaccine. and those vaccines have resulted in saving of hundreds of thousands of lives in the united states, and millions of lives throughout the world. >> well you have fought aids and hiv. you have fought covid-19 and. you are fearless in doing so. do you have any reason to be afraid of scientific evidence or data or the truth out at all. >> thank you. i will get back to you, mr. chairman. >> now recognize mr. griffiths from virginia for five minutes of questions thank you, ms >> chairman. >> good to see you, dr. fauci so, take a deep breath. >> are we're going to continue to monitor this important hearing with dr. fouchier just heard him defend himself congressman jamie raskin, asking those questions. >> so we're going to continue to monitor this will get back to it as needed. but right now i want to bring in dr. offset khuza'a real expert in this whole area doctor office first of all, give me your reaction to what we just heard from dr. fauci well, i think it is really important to understand the origin this virus you have three pandemic viruses that have all occurred in the last 20 years. >> you can assume there's gonna be another one. so it's important to understand this, but really scientifically, this is isn't a controversy. this one was an animal to human spillover event that occurred in the western section of the hunan wholesale seafood market at the end of 2019. all the original cases were there and then spread out concentrically from there. there were animals that were sold in that part of the market, sold illegally, like red foxes and kuhn dogs, they clearly were susceptible to coronavirus and they were sold to legally under non-hydrogen iq and unsterile conditions. the chinese scientists, and now we know that investigated that area, found evidence of source cov-2 virus on cages on machines years to kill the animals and we now know that even some of the animals had source cov-2 virus so this is not a scientific or medical controversy, but it's become a cultural controversy because we want a person to blame. but i think if you want anybody to blame, blame the chinese government because first of all, they were unwilling to let international teams of scientists come in and see what was going on. we had to depend on a whistleblower in wu han to tell us that there was a it was causing people to be hospitalized and die. i think they were. and we know that in 2002, stores, one was an animal to human spillover events. so i think china is culpable here and mother nature is culpable here. so let's bring those up in front of these congressional subcommittees. >> important point, dr. offered. thank you very much. stick around. we're going to continue to monitor this hearing throughout the hour. we'll get back to you. there's other breaking news coming into cnn right now. dozens of stocks have been put on a pause because of a technical glitch over the new york stock exchange. cnn reporter matt egan is joining us right now. matt, what more of you learned? tell us about this well, this is a developing situation. >> here's what we know. the new york stock exchange says that it is investigating what they're calling a technical issue involves what's known as limit op, limit down, which is really a safeguard put in place to prevent stock prices from moving to wildly. now, in just the last few moments, the new york stock exchange sent out an update saying that these stocks that have been impacted, they are reopening or are in the process of the opening and they say that the issue at the heart of this has been resolved. now we're going to keep an eye to see how these stocks open up trading because there was a bizarre situation where you mentioned dozens of stocks were halted for no apparent reason. some of them were showing really unusual moves up, most notably berkshire hathaway as the big holding company run by legendary investor warren buffett class a shares for berkshire hathaway were listed down trading at $185.10. >> that would be a 99.97% drop because normally this stock is trading above 600,000 was in dollars. so clearly something weird going on. i talked to one market structure structure expert who told me that something is wacky is happening. hopefully this is going to be resolved and cleared up. we showed the big board before showing the dow down about 200 points not a major move. it does not appear to be directly related to these individual stock issues. the broader market does appear to be holding up. and we'll keep an eye as these stocks start to trade. again, hopefully at normal prices, wolf will stay in close touch with your math. thanks very much for staying on top of this potentially very a significant story we're going to continue to monitor all the developments unfolding right now from the testimony of dr. anthony fauci, and we'll bring you any major headlines? >> also ahead this our jury selection in hunter biden's gun trial is now underway. >> we will take your life to the federal courthouse in delaware, plus mexico as officially elected its first female president how're policies could shape american border crossings in the coming months stay with us. you're alive here in the cnn newsroom the increase in wildfires is exponential unpredictable, uncontrollable with overwhelming consequences, they need to do something is urgent. the filing earth would we have schreiber and the at night upon cnn, our biggest challenge uncertainty hidden fees, surcharges. >> who knows what to expect, turned shipping to your advantage, keep it we talked with clear upfront pricing with usps ground advantage i've struggled with generalized myasthenia gravis, but the pitcher started changing when i started on vif guard this guard has for adult generalized myasthenia gravis or anti aac hr to body positive going to clinical trial vif guard significantly improved most participant's ability to do daily activities when added to their current gmt treatment most participants taking viv guard also had less muscle weakness and your vf guard treatment schedule is designed just for you in a clinical study, the most common side effects included urinary and respiratory tract infections and headache, viv may increase the risk of infection. >> tell your doctor if you have a history of infections or symptoms of an infection, they've guard can cause allergic reactions available as viv guard for iv infusion and also as viv guard high to low for subcutaneous injection additional side effects for viv card had trudeau, they include injection site reactions to talk to your neurologist about viv guard okay. >> everyone. our mission is to provide complete balanced nutrition for strength and energy ensure with 27 vitamins and minerals nutrients for immune health, and ensure complete with 30 grams of protein first, we did the impossible then you age so many of the them possible that we completely ran out and now they're by the foot law, cookies back-end subway at morgan stanley old school hardware meets bold new thinking at 88-years-old, we still see the world with a wonder of new eyes help when you discover untapped possibilities and relentlessly working with you to make them real old-school grid, new world ideas. morgan stanley meaning response to the trade rumors, we keep praying about, uh, what we talk about movement now, let's re not, it's right. >> we talked about moving. no. thank you. you could use open-door sell your house directly to them. it's easy i guess we're moving i, thought we had a plan for dad. he was set to go to the senior living community, right by my house. >> then a friend suggested i talked to a place for mom. >> they really hello. yeah. open my eyes. >> my advisor listened and understood his needs and showed us options that we're still nearby, but a better fit for dad. now, he's in engaging community with the pick group of friends. i know we made a better choice for free senior living advice. go to a place for mom mom.com mobiles, 5g networks. >> next, 100,000 delta employees. >> so they can make every customer feel like they've arrived before they've left the ground this is how business goes further with t-mobile forbids today. >> at america's beverage companies are models might still look the same, but they can be remade in a whole new way. >> thanks to you. >> we're going to bottles back and we've developed a way to make new ones from 100% recycled plastic new bottles made using no new plastic. >> you'll be seeing more of these bottles in more places. >> and when we get more of them back, we can use less new plastic. >> bottles are made to be remade power ea trades easy to use tools like dynamic charting and risk reward analysis helped make trading feel effortless. >> and it's customizable scans with social sentiment help you find an unlocked opportunities in the market. e-trade from morgan stanley with powerful, easy to use tools, power e-trade makes complex trading easier. reactor fast moving markets with dynamic charting and to futures ladder, the lets you place latin or reverse orders. so you won't miss an opportunity e-trade from morgan stanley manu raju on capitol hill. >> this is sienna this morning, jury selection is underway and hunter biden's felony gun trial in delaware. this is the first time the adult child of a sitting president of the united states has gone on trial. hunter biden is accused of illegally purchasing and possessing a gun back in 28 18 while abusing drugs. he's pleaded not guilty joining us now, former assistant special watergate prosecutor, nick ackerman, and former federal prosecutor, renato mariotti. renato what are the main things you'll be watching as this trial begins? >> well, one thing i'm going to be interested in is what is the defense's narrative here it's very challenging to convince the jury in this circumstance. he didn't purchase a gun or that you weren't abusing drugs at that time? >> i i think that they're going to try to have a strategy potentially putting the prosecution on trial arguing for something like nullification. >> so i'm very interested in what the defense opening statement looks like in the hours to come nick guy, as you know, the biden family clearly has an extensive history in the state of delaware. could this impact potentially jury selection? there oh sure, but again, i think that's gonna be all vetted during jury selection to the extent that people have a prejudice one way or the other. i think that will come out for sure. >> but you're right at the end of the day. i think the bidens have a lot of connections to delaware. delaware is the small one of the smallest states in the union and everybody probably knows somebody that knows the bidens so it could have an impact. i mean, i really think that the only defense that hunter biden has is is at the time at the time he signed the atf form at the time he owned the gun for about ten days was he addicted to drugs? was he taking drugs to me? >> that is the only possible defense he's got. and i agree with renato i'm curious to see if that comes up in the opening statement. >> that's a good point. we're not oh, the judge overseeing this trial, delta defense, two setbacks yesterday blocking an expert witness and excluding a key piece of evidence. so what do you make of those rulings? >> i have to say i think the judge has been very pro prosecution in this one. there's also some prior rulings in which the judge really didn't i would say seriously consider the arguments by the defense that the essentially already completed a deal with the government on that the government essentially went back on its deal. so i actually think that defense is going through at this trial because they think they have some grounds for appeal. they also of course, have potentially second amendment argument to try to invalidate the statute. so they've got a bunch of different appellate argument, so i think they're going through the motions in this trial trial, and they're really trying to get an appellate victory nick, as you know, at both this judge and the judge in hunter biden does other case, the tax case are both trump appointees. >> do you think this could have any impact on either trial? >> i don't think we should view it that right. i mean, i really kind of cringe every time people talk about biden appointed judges, trump appointed judges. i think we have to give these judges that benefit of the doubt they're not necessarily even appointed by the president. are they really appointed by senators? in states like california, we had two democratic senators. certainly they would have had a veto power over the judge that was appointed so i just think it's a bad way to look at this. it does what donald trump does, trying to turn this into a partisan battle. it's not a partisan battle. i think it's going to come down to if they really go to trial on this, it's going to come down to whether or not a hunter biden can get on the witness stand and convinced the jury that at the time he thought he was not addicted and he was not addicted and not taking drugs during that ten day period. >> that's what it's all about and i shirt only wouldn't look at this in a partisan lines well, on that issue, renato, do you think this trial potentially contradicts republicans narrative of a so-called weaponized department of justice i do. >> i mean, i agree with neck that you know, i don't generally like to look at i certainly judges and our system of justice and that fashion. i do think in many ways, hunter biden ironically is the victim of the fact that are is they counted the victim, but is the is the. is impacted by the fact that really both sides of the aisle have an interest in going hard against hunter biden, the republicans, obviously are very determined to prove that he's committed wrongdoing. >> democrats though, want to show that they're neutral and unbiased and have no real reason not to not to not to go very hard against them. i do think if this was not such a charged situation, he might get a different deal. they might have gotten a deal more along the lines of what he had originally negotiated. >> but that's not where he's at. >> and i think it'll be can just see kind of how this all on winds in the months to come, it will be interesting indeed, we're not, on ariadne nika ackerman to both of you. thank you very much. and still i had this our a spokesperson for israeli prime minister benjamin, a tiny says president biden only presented what they are calling a partial outline of a potential ceasefire deal and any claims he has agreed to a us proposal are not true. we'll talk through through what's missing. stay with us. you're alive here in the cnn newsroom first lady, the american theater afraid of truck like this is your light play. my life a great list leonhard streaming exclusively on macs here's to getting better with age here's the beat, nice to every thursday, helped fuel today with boost type protein complete nutrition, you need without the stuff you don't so here's two now liberty mutual customize my car insurance and i saved hundreds with all the money i saved that i'd by still say honey oh, look, no line at the hotdog stand. only pay for what you need everyone sees his meanwhile, at a vrbo when other vacation rentals are just for likes, dry one, you'll actually like pods spring moving sale has been extended, save up to 25% on moving in storage until june 10 in cbi pods, it's been trusting did with over 6 million moves don't wait, use promo code 25 now to save, look at pot.com today first, we did the impossible you age so many of the possible that we completely ran out now, there are the cookies back-end subway he introducing ned's flex or is he thinks is flaky red patches are all people see. >> oh, tesla is the number one prescribed pill to treat plaque psoriasis oh, tesla can help you get clear. don't use a tesla if you're allergic to it serious allergic reactions can happen. oh, tesla may cause severe diarrhea nausea, or vomiting some people take new tesla had depression suicidal thoughts, or weight loss, upper respiratory tract infection, and headache may occur. >> live in the moment asked your doctor about oh, tesla higher shipping breaks may be the cost of doing business. but at what cost turned shipping to your advantage with low cost ground shipping from the united states postal service with armor all a little bit of this protects you from a lot of that armor all west work more clean it's just your mother and i went different things, which is why we got sling tv so we can watch live and free tv on one app that's right thing is really keeping his family together. you have no idea? we could all unsubscribe and switch to xfinity. their connection is unreal. and we could all un-experience this whole session. okay, that's uncalled for. meetings they billion with a b we've got the honor. >> you got this. >> i'm kevin lip ttac at the white house. and this is cnn now the historic election results overnight and mexico, claudia sheinbaum will become mexico's first female president. >> she's also the first jewish president of mexico. he or she is celebrating where their supporters shane bomb was the mayor of mexico city, and is a scientists who served on the the united nations climate panel. she got about 60% of the vote in the largest election in mexican history. sheinbaum says her administration will lead all mexicans, quote, i'm quoting are not without distinction other news we're following, turning to israel where two of prime minister benjamin ateneo is far-right cabinet ministers are threatening to try to topple his government if the prime minister agrees to a new ceasefire proposal by the white house there were reports that ten yeah, i would agree to the plan, but his office is now saying that is not true president biden announced the three-phase peace proposal on friday, insisting that it's time for israel's war with hamas to end the administration is still waiting for an official response from the terrorist group joining us now a cnn military analysts retired us army major general james spider marks, and cnn political and global affairs analyst, barak ravid. barak we've been hearing some contradictory responses from israel since this ceasefire proposal was unveiled on friday by president biden. what do you know about these efforts to get this deal approved? what's the latest? >> so let's let's make one thing straight here. this is an israeli proposal the israeli war cabinet approved this proposal. it was transferred to the us, to egypt, and to qatar last week. and they transferred it to hamas. i will tell you one more thing. i'm now reading to you the headline of this document, the headline of this document that was passed to hamas and that president biden, based his speech on is israel response on may on may 6, 2024, proposal this is the headline. israel's response. so i think anybody who says this is not an israeli proposal is being inaccurate to say the least. >> well, as the prime minister, prime minister new ten, jal barack denying that this is an israeli proposal because when president biden made the announcement at the white house on friday, he made it clear sure. this was israel's latest proposal so netanyahu is not denying it like that, but he says and he said, today at the hearing of the foreign relations security committee in the knesset, that president biden only referred to parts of the proposal when other parts of the proposal he did not mention in here his speech in a tanya was referring to one clause specifically, and this is the clause that says that on day 16 of the implementation of the deal, israel, hamas are supposed to start a negotiation over the next phase and over what is called the cessation of hostilities and in those negotiations, each side can bring his own a positions and his own demands. >> an attorney, i was saying i will demand in those negotiations that the war will end only if comer says military capabilities are not there anymore and only if hamas will not rule the gaza strip one day after the interesting point at general mark. so the white house sounds very confident that the israelis have sufficiently degraded hamas has capabilities. here's what the national security council spokesperson john kirby said over the weekend. listen to this militarily speaking, hamas is in no position to conduct another attack like october 7. now, we're also not saying that hamas has been wiped off the face of the map. we've not said that hamas has no military capabilities. we've not said that they don't still represent a viable threat to the israeli people. of course they do, but they don't have the middle what's harry capabilities to do what they did on 7 october what do you think a generalist in realistic terms, how big of a threat is hamas right now? hamas remains an ideology and it certainly a political arm that has some has a future. let's be frank. so there is a difference between not having the capability to conduct military operations and the destruction of hamas. and that's where netanyahu and his cabinet are viewing when it vis-a-vis what our administration is viewing it. i think it's significant that israel and the united states ever really strong conversation about this look, israel is not going to walk away from what has taken place in gaza. they're going to be very much engaged in what this thing looks like going forward. and they want to have 1 million military capability for the potential inevitability to launch operations very quickly, very precisely back into gaza post some form of a ceasefire and inevitable reconstruction baraka, as you know, this deal calls for the release of all of the hostages held by hamas indeed, of the 250 people captured or killed back on october 7, israel says roughly 100 or still being held in gaza, right now along with the bodies of 30 more families of these hostages who want this ceasefire plan implemented. but we'll their wishes influencing the ten, ateneo, we've seen these huge demonstrations in tel aviv and jerusalem and elsewhere in israel well, i think that there's a lot of pressure on it and you from the families of the hostages and from public opinion more than 60% of israelis you see it in all the polls. think the number one priority should be the bring the hostages back home, even if it means that the war to, the end. on the other hand, netanyahu is under pressure from the radical right-wing members of his own coalition ultra-nationalist ministers, ben gvir and smotrich, who both already publicly threatened to leave the correlation and topless government if he moves forward with this deal. so the question is which? sayyed and you chooses? and if we look at the record until today in almost every juncture that anyhow, pick his stability of his coalition over anything else? >> interesting general marks, more than 100 hostages as you know, were freed during a release deal back in november. so if all of the parties agree to this latest proposal, will officials use the same playbook? they did back then to get the hostages home. >> i would imagine they would. i mean, it was success last time. we would anticipate a similar activity going forward the challenge is, and i think we have to be very wide eyed about this. what is the state of those hostages that remain behind now? are we going to get live live bodies being returned or will the preponderance of those be messages and or remains coming back to the families interesting baraka the us defense secretary lloyd austin says the us is monitoring the situation in a rafah. israel has had some operations and rafah, but that huge major operation apparently has not yet started. what are you learning about? what's actually happening right now? on the ground in and around rafah so we'll for what i hear from israeli officials is that the main objective of the rafah operation is already ended. >> the most important part in this operation was the capture of the philadelphi corridor this 12 kilometer corridor on the board so between egypt and the gaza strip, which under it, there are apparently from what the idf says, at least two dozen hamas tunnels for smuggling weapons. and this, this was the main objective of the operation. this has been already achieved and yesterday is rarely egyptian and us officials met in cairo to discuss exactly that. how do you close this border so that hamas cannot rearm one quick question before i let you go, baraka. >> the latest israeli polls, do they continue to show if there were is early elections in israel netanyahu would be defeated so i think there are two trends a fair elections were held today in a tanja would still lose the elections, but he is bit by bit managing to close this gap from his political opponents. we see that benny gantz has main political rival is going down in the poll, netanyahu is slightly going up. so the trend right now is more positive for netanyahu in the post. and it's been, let's say, a month ago interesting are baraka ravid, general spider marks to both of you. >> thank you very, very much. still ahead this our former president trump says he'd be ok with serving prison time, but not without a veiled threat on behalf of his supporters speak luck. hi, with a former attorney for trump. that's coming up. you're alive in the cnn newsroom sometimes the best thing you can do with intelligence is share it with your adversary. he had his secret is betrayed itself, bullet to the back of a hand secrets and spies a nuclear game sunday at ten on cnn with armor all a little bit of this protects you from a lot of that armour all less work, more clean when did i call the filter? awaits sentencing after a jury found him guilty on all 34 felony counts in his criminal hush money trial. his fate, which could include potentially prison, is now in the hands of judge juan merchan, whom he attacked throughout the proceedings. but there's still a chance, trump, but potentially may not serve any prison sentence his legal team is moving to appeal the verdict in the new york appellate division, and if a five-judge panel on that court upholds the decision, the state's highest court will then weigh in let's discuss this with criminal defense attorney former trump impeachment attorney michael vendor, been michael, thanks for joining us. the appeals process. as you know, better than i do, is likely to drag on potentially for many months could trump avoid a prison sentence by delaying the process through the election well, i'm sure the appellate process going all the way to the highest court in new york would take longer than to conclude before november. >> but well, i don't think he's likely to go to prison i think he's likely to get a probationary sentence a lot of people agree with you on that trump's fate, as you know, michael is in the hands of his contempt findings will either one of those impacted sentencing i don't think so. you know, with respect to his conduct during trial, wasn't all that bad. he pretty much followed line and judge juan merchan has seen a lot more active defendants in his criminal courts over the years. then what we've seen here with respect to the criminal contempt findings. i don't think they're going to weigh in to the decision of the sentence eight because he's already been punished for the criminal contempt finding. he was fined $1,000 per vial relation that the court found him guilty of. after hearing, it wouldn't be appropriate, nor do i think judge merchan would be allowed to consider that in giving a sentence, there are specific factors to be considered during sentencing, and that isn't one of them. you're not going to double punish them for it. >> if you were still his lawyer, would you advise him to at least show some remorse as he awaits sentencing i really wouldn't mind my advice to him and would be very clearly please keep this case out of the public dialogue folk yes, on your campaign. and let us get to the sentencing on july 11. there's nothing that he's going to say that's going to help him on that day of sentencing. so it's best that he's not saying anything and it's best that he just be prepared for the sentencing on july 11, and if you say not saying anything including that's showing any remorse at all, is that what you're saying well, you know, he's going to appeal, so he maintains his innocence and if he's maintaining his innocence remorse wouldn't be in that
