all of the candidates really wanting to introduce themselves to the american people taking the opportunity trying to have their breakout moments here in milwaukee. but you know who took a lot of the discuss the top issues facing the american people like the economy, the education system, national security, and more. and why they are the best to solve those issues. >> would you support sending u.s. special force over the border into mexico? >> yes, and i will do it on day one. >> the most pressing need of the american people from a national security standpoint is our southern border. it is to do their job me. when we had two district attorneys elected with soros funding unwilling to do their job, i removed them from their post. >> brooke: so as you can see a really exciting night, a lot of fireworks on the stage. unclear which candidates we'll see but next month september 27th is the second republican presidential debate, that will take place in california so we'll see which candidates make the polls to qualify. >> carley: absolutely. so the next debate in 34 days, four weeks and we have another round of debating and i thought one of the biggest headlines is we all thought ron desantis was going to take all the incoming fire. it was vivek ramaswamy. >> todd: no. desantis got off easy. vivek has to be like dude i'm the new guy and you're attacking me but that's what happened. >> carley: i think they see vivek and mike pence spoke the most and there was a lot of interrupting, he had a message to deliver and he wanted to deliver it. brook thank you very much. let's talk about the winners and losers for that we bring in christian tate columnist for the hill. christian who did great and who failed? >> good morning, vivek ramaswamy was the big winner from last night. ron desantis, he probably got bumped down a notch. mike pence and chris christie they bombed last night and the other candidates didn't really move the needle much. but, yeah, vivek was the big winner. he said that he wanted defund ukraine, would pardon trump. he said climate change agenda was a hoax and he wanted to get rid of a bunch of these big government. he was unapologetic, really fun to talk to and i think this guy has a big future ahead of him. going into the debate last night, ron desantis was the number two candidate after trump in this primary. all of the news reports regarding this race up until now have really only treated ron desantis as trump as the two serious candidates. that all changed after last night. vivek is likely now the number two candidate in this race. >> todd: wow. >> reporter: he may very well have earned his place as a vp for trump if trump is to win a second term. >> ashley: he said he would never take a vp spot but they always say that. >> reporter: they all say that. >> todd: i don't know if i agree with you necessarily that desantis dropped to the third spot but i do agree with you in the sense that vivek had a great night and what i thought he did very well versus let's say a mike pence, mike pence's view, even though most of the night was spend with him talking and interrupting, definitely sort of gave a sense of like, we're not doing great but we could be okay in the future. i thought vivek nailed it when he said, look, we are in trouble. there's an american dream out there and we're not realizing it right now. let's take a listen to vivek ramaswamy. >> i'm not a politician, bret, you're right about that. i'm an entrepreneur. my parents came to this country with no money 40 years ago. i have gone on to found multi billion dollars companies. i did it while marrying my wife, raising our two sons, following our faith in god. that is the american dream. and i am genuinely worried that that american dream will not exist for our two sons and their generation unless we do something about it. >> todd: contrast. those that said, hey, you know, it's close, we're kind of wishy washy and those that came out like vivek and said we are in trouble unless we have a 180 and do it now. >> reporter: right. and in a lot of ways these debates are not necessarily about substance but style and vivek really nailed it when it came to style. i have to disagree a little bit about ron desantis. i would say he was actually the biggest loser last night. not because he did poorly, he didn't. he had some very good moments. but because he did not perform well enough, i believe, to defend that place he has in the race as the second, number two candidate. he was a bit under whelming and just a little bit stiff compared to vivek ramaswamy. and a perfect example of that is when the moderators asked the candidates who would pardon trump as president. vivek just unapologetically raised his hand, ron desantis kind of looked around and then sort of sheepishly raised his hand up to his shoulder. that's just a really great example of the contrast between these two candidates. and at the end in his closing arguments, vivek said a few lines. he said god is real, there are two genders. these are the kinds of statements that just a few years ago are really common sense but now are considered controversial. i mean, some of the candidates on that stage may not even, you know, say these statements anymore. so, you know, i think desantis did well, but he did get bumped down in my view last night. >> carley: yeah, for vivek ramaswamy being a novice debater, he said that he's never debated anybody before, where all of these other people are polished politicians and he's the one up there >> brian: couple of things i saw. senator tim scott i thought was fined but he stormed right out after doing his sean hannity interview, blew off the spin room which i thought was odd. chris christie did not show up. to me he didn't have the perfect night but he had a lot of big nights, big hits, remember when he hit vivek ramaswamy because vivek came out and said i have an odd name and skinny arms and i know it's hard to say and he goes here's who i am. the last person who said that was barack obama, the crowd loved it, called me ai candidate. but i don't know why he did not show up in the spin room. i thought governor ron desantis had to be solid and he was. he'll be joining us live in about two hours. i thought the biggest surprise to me was mike pence got the most time, the most aggressive i've ever seen him in my life and the most confident. but i thought nikki haley, to me, stole the show. i expected her to be strong on foreign policy aggressive and direct. i did not expect him to say something that donald trump is the most unpopular politician in the country and can't win and we have to win. did not expect that. i also didn't expect her to rip republicans on spending guys. i know everybody has their own ideas, expectations, so for me nikki haley, confident, working all sides, taking on all commerce with the direction really confident. she had to do well, and i think she did. i'm very curious to see who's going to get the most money pouring in today. >> todd: i also think it will be real curious if anyone chips into the donald trump lead because to your point on nikki haley, both carley and i thought hey, this person definitely landed in the top three. you did a great job doing tom rinaldi type stuff asking candidates like it was an athletic event immediately thereafter, but being on the ground, being with the audience, the people that vote, the people who really matter, what is your sense, brian, as to who won last night based upon what the audience feels? >> i think vivek will make the most helped lines, whether you loved him or you didn't like him, he still was the target and he's so eloquent and confident and different. he's going to be the story. like the foreign policy i think is absolutely -- a lot of his points are ridiculous, they're not practical. you know, we have to give up taiwan by 2028. when it comes to ukraine, don't want to spend a dime there focus on china as if we can't see the links between russia and china and how it affects our history. and israel not getting faired nation status make them earn it, i think they've earned it, we could talk to harry truman about that had he survived all these years but he is somebody people are drawn to teverybody talking about. what i did too, because i had cable put into my room, i flipped around to other channels when i got back to my room and i saw everybody was talking about vivek at the end of the night and talking about what's going to happen to the president tonight and 8:00 i think eastern time, i think somewhere in between, he's going to turn himself in. we're going to see the video and soon that will swamp the aftermath of this big debate over milwaukee. so the other thing is, it was kind of just cool to see everybody together without donald trump. i think they should have relished the moment mike pence said, you know, he should have been here but it was good to be able to interact and not have every question about donald trump. i thought both bret and march that i think you agree, they were great, well prepared. and i think the -- i almost said athletes. the politicians respected them, so there was only a few times where i felt they were trying to steam roll and take over the debate. >> carley: yeah it was a great debate definitely policy dwriven some jabs back and forth to be expected and the next debate is in just 34 days. so they brush the dust off and we're going to see what's in store for next debate. >> todd: no time for the weary. >> carley: see if donald trump shows up to that one after this debate. brian, i am sure you will be all over this in fox and friends in ten minutes. >> brian: yeah. and i just want to say, i'm at the original pancake house, those who think they evented the pancake i cannot confirm that. but for the people said we have pancakes let's build a house around it so i'm going to get to the bottom of this story in brookfield and i'll break that down. >> carley: yeah, both politics and pan covets brian thank you so much. >> todd: thanks kilmeade >> brian: go get 'em guys. >> carley: the first question of the debate focused on the number one issue for voters, the economy. >> biden's bidenomics has led to the loss of $10,000 of spending power for the average family. >> our country is in decline. this decline is not inevitable, it's a choice. >> charles payne telling us who made the best case on your number one issue, next. ♪ let innovation refunds help with your erc tax refund so you can improve your business however you see fit. rosie used part of her refund to build an outdoor patio. clink! dr. marshall used part of his refund to give his practice a facelift. emily used part of her refund to buy... i run a wax museum. let innovation refunds help you get started on your erc tax refund. stop waiting. go to innovationrefunds.com you really got the brows. meet gold bond healing. a powerhouse lotion that moisturizes, heals, and smooths dry skin. with 7 moisturizers and 3 vitamins, you can pay more but you can't get more. gold bond. champion your skin. ♪ >> i will tell you how to fix it. they need to stop the spending. they need to stop the borrowing. they need to eliminate the earmarks the republicans brought back in. >> our country is in decline. this decline is not inevitable. it's a choice. it starts by understanding we need to revers bidenomics. we need to lower your gas prices. we are going to open up all energy production. we will be energy dominant again in this country tribune. >> what we also need to understand is that joe biden's bidenomics has led to the loss of $10,000 of spending power for the average family. when you see 16% inflation, your gas is up 40%, your food is up 20%, your electricity is up 20%. >> it's going to take an outsider because for a long time we have professional politicians in the republican party who have been running from something. now it's our moment to start running to something. to our vision of what it means to be an american today.
