♪ >> and good morning, everyone. i'm craig herrera. we're coming to you on fox weather stream and the fox business network. >> i'm kendall smith. welcome to our fox business network viewers. we have everything you need to get ready for the final days of 2021. let's start off with a final sun dive 2021. can you believe it? wow, this year flew by. i'm going to take you live to a gorgeous scene in portsmouth, new hampshire where snow is falling down. it's blanketed what we can see right now. parts of massachusetts picking up christmas snow this morning. we're going to take a look now out at graffen, massachusetts. we can see a video coming in from friday where fresh snow fell. what a gorgeous, serene shot with the snow flakes blowing in the breeze. the backyard turned into a winter wonderland. this morning we have rain and lots of it as we take a look at boston, mass you chew sets where we -- massachusetts where it appears traffic is moving smoothly. you want to allow for extra time because you might encounter a few slick spots. craig: to the north, all of that is rain and snow is flying including at yoke harbor beach, maine. we have a mixed precipitation, maybe freezing drizzle around the area, additional snow accumulations of less than an inch or so. we have winter weather advisories in place and these are going to be in place through this morning. these are going to include portions of upstate new york and burlington as well, this is through this morning. as we go through this afternoon, i think things start to dry out. the system's starting the to move out of here. here's a look at boston, there goes the rain. the green is the rain, the mixed precip is the pink and you had snow flying through, not all that bad right now. as far as road conditions, a slick start to the morning. maybe you're not only pictures from across america. but as you spent your christmas heart with a photo or your television on "fox & friends" yesterday morning. i know i was proud. we want to see more of your photos by the way. good morning, carley. carley: this is my favorite week of the year, the week between christmas and new year is the best. all you do typically, you hang out. people are off school, people are off work. who have to see pictures of you happening out by your christmas tree. best christmas celebration with your families, if you were able to. 996 flights were canceled. that number is already 570. and todd, that is a big deal, because today is one of the busiest travel days of the year. a aaa spokesperson said that if you plan on driving home today, leave early, because one of the busiest times to be on the road throughout the entire year is today, between the hours of 1:00 p.m. and 7:00 p.m. of course, because of those flight cancellations that would not help make the roads any easier to navigate. will: carley, i saw that statistic. between one and 7:00 p.m. on the day after christmas. when the busiest travel day on the roadway we talked about it yesterday. wising number of cases, rising number of positive tests. not the metric on health of the nation. deaths in the country, half of what they were one year ago. we have stats we can put them up on the screen. number of cases, 2021, have risen, number of deaths have been shaved in half. what that tells us is, omicron is much less severe than than any previous covid wave we've experienced. most likely we developed natural immunity throughout the population. i leave it with you, todd. i find this fascinating. throughout the entire pandemic, todd, we're two years in. throughout the pandemic the entire conversation can only be about vaccinations. it is fascinating to me. it is not fascinating, it is shameful, that we don't have a conversation about treatment. what do you do about people who are sick with covid. the answer from dr. anthony fauci touch and federal government, what are you talking about? were they vaccinated? todd: to your point yesterday. we had a good analogy, we're trying to stop the wind, especially when it comes to omicron. omicron is presenting itself like a cold that every single person in this world is going to get at some point. and so the focus now does need to be on therapeutics. if you get it, how do we keep you alive regardless of whether you had one vaccine, two vaccines, boosters, whatever is coming down the pike. and that is a crucial thing that some politicians are talking about. others are not. one that is, governor ron desantis. take a listen. >> starting with people like dr. fauci, they have really shied away from talking about any type of treatment of covid-19 and they are constantly talking about vaccinations but i think as you know many people who have been vaccinated are getting enteched and we service at our monoclonal antibodies sites, vast majority of people who get treatments are high-risk people who have vaccinated. people like dr. fauci, if you talk about treatments, i won't get vaccinated, i will get a treatment if i get it, they want to control peoples behavior. todd: my final thought on this, can you think of any other disease that we have ever seen in society where the reaction is, let's not focus on the treatment. let's only focus on the prevention? i've been racking my brain. if someone gets cancer the goal is to figure out how do we help that person survive cancer. it is not, oh, let's put 100% of our efforts into stopping whatever the carcinogen was in the first place. that is great. we would love to stop carcinogens. that is not the real world. people get sick. we treat the sick. we don't ignore the sickness. carley: you're absolutely right. the fact more politicians are not saying what governor ron desantis just said with dan bongino yesterday, i honestly find it infuriating because it makes so much sense. "the washington post" has a headline, with omicron it may be harder to tell if you have covid the common cold or flu. one doctor says that he is hearing an increased number of patients who have sneezing, stuffy heads, scratch think throats, things associated with common cold and only to get a covid test they turn out covid positive. if everyone has the opportunity to become vaccinated and omicron is number one strain in the united states, it presents more like a cold why aren't we treating it like a cold? in south africa, if you test positive in south africa, you are asymptomatic, you don't have to quarantine. if you get a positive test, do back to work the same day. with natural immunity, people tested positive for covid previously, because of their vaccinated population, the fact omicron is so much less severe, makes no point in destructing work lives, everyday lives to have people asymptomatic, will, stay home. will: you know, carley, not to make light again of something that can be, can be very serious but increasingly more often than not is not serious, i have allergies right now. i guess the juniper is out in texas, mid winter, probably because we have 80-degree december, i wonder if knees, could this be omicron? i don't know. because the symptoms are largely the same. let's move to this morning, eagle eyed i guess observers those that can see through the meaning of things have noticed that in kamala harris, vice president kamala harris's christmas tweet she put a train around the christmas tree a amtrak train around the christmas tree and i guess that has some hidden meaning to many. while there has been, some, i don't know tension in the white house between the two camps, harris and biden, apparently this might be an homage, carley, i'm not one who i see what you meant there, i'm a literal person, i guess that amtrak train might be literal high-five to joe biden after what has been a rocky patch in the relationship, according to reports. todd: let me take that, will. is this a public olive branch? probably. will it make a difference? no. until she does the jobs she was tasked with, no. the best way to improve, attitude as you know in the locker room, is winning. winning solves anything. will they get win or wins in 2022 is the question. based on how 2022 is shaking out, carley, no indication through politically, congress, build back better, second or 15th permutation there will be a win. didn't seem there will be a win at the border. they are not changing what they have done so far. that is the definition of insanity, literally the definition of insanity. carley: the reason, i thought it was so funny, people saw the tweet from kamala harris and they immediately saw the train, the reason everybody made a big deal about it because president biden calls himself amtrak joe. there is all reports of tension in the white house. some people are saying it is a olive branch to the president. i think it was a white house orchestrated christmas card thanked they wanted to put that in there as homage to president biden but going back to that tension, these new reports about the vice president and the president and what will happen in 2024, they are never ending. "the new york times" recently had a headline, heir apparent or afterthought? the frustration of kamala harris. the vice president's allies are increasingly concerned that president biden relied on her to win but does not need her to govern. that is the very same article where kamala harris says, and her people say she feels underutilized. she says that the news coverage would be better for her if she were a white man. the reality is her not being a white man has saved her from even more negative coverage will, but, it is very clear that there is tension between them and, you would think that they would get along because remember when they first when president biden first got the, got the won the election, there was a phone call between them, they were laughing and gig link -- giggling and things have not panned out. will: carley, what of the fascinating things seeing racism through everything or world of identity politics it absolves you of all your personality quirks. somebody may have a problem with you, as an individual, maybe your personality, not your identity group, that people are, showing unfavorables towards. it be a solves of any type of personal accountability or individual responsibility or even your own personality. always a great escape hatch. hey, on this note of seeing hidden meaning, president trump, former president trump also put out a christmas message, people say, hey, is this an indication he will run again in 2024? look what president trump had to say. merry christmas to all. we will make america great again. now look, again, todd, i'm consistent here. i'm not good ad hidden meaning. i can't tell you. is this an indication, get ready for president trump in 2024? todd: always keeps us guessing. does it mean 2024 or 2022 the midterms? you reported multiple times on the president really focusing on getting republicans elected in midterms and quite frankly republicans that do support the make america great again a agenda. is it that? is it 2024. i think whatever it is it does lead to fund-raising. we've seen the fun raising numbers for the rnc. this is part of an overall attempt to really make sure that you don't steal defeat from the jaws of what appears to be a midterm victory definitely in the house but all likelihood in the senate. it will be obviously fascinating to see how it shakes out. we'll be with you every step of the way in 2022. it is going to be fun. it is going to be awesome, guys. carley: i think that christmas card message is clear he obviously is thinking about running again. if the election were held today, he made so many hints at it. i also don't think president biden will run for re-election again because the numbers are just not there, whether it is his poll numbers or his age. so i mean, we are talking about something that is three years from now. so literally anything could happen. todd: less than three. less than three. carley: you're right. i guess it is two now. if the election were today i think it would be trump. kamala lairs is out. president biden i think is out. a lot of people say hillary clinton is thinking about running again because the democrat bench is not deep. who really do they have? i think republicans have a lot more viable candidates whether it's trump or ron desantis or, there is so many other people that could be contender. do they go to pete buttigieg, democrats? i think one of the things that hurt buttigieg is the supply chain issue, todd, him taking paternity leave in the middle of it. todd: interesting how it shakes out. absolutely tragic story in pennsylvania. a father and his two kids die. they say with the home christmas tree and lighting. but they are investigating the cause. mother and oldest child were able to escape. unfortunately the family's two dogs were killed. a gofundme account is set up. calling it a horrific tragedy. a man armed with a crossbow arrested breaking into the grounds of wind sore castle while queen elizabeth was there. the 19-year-old suspect did not enter any buildings within an hour of scare. the queen welcomed prince charles, his wife camilla and other family to celebrate christmas. there is no indication that the incident disrupted the queen's schedule. listen, you got to listen to this. a update to the nice story we brought awe few weeks ago, the man who learned of his wife's pregnancy on the orlando magic kiss cam. he learned another surprise, ultrasound revealed they're having twins. taylor and her husband joined us to share what the kiss cam moment you're like. >> we're on the kiss cam, which is cool. we break away from the kiss, she says, i have something i need to tell you. >> i love always surprising my husband, especially you know, go beg or go home i guess. todd: the baileys celebrating the latest big surprise. another blessed holiday. so much to look forward to in the new year. guys, we love stories that have levels, right. this story has more levels and i don't know what is coming next. i'm excited to see what they bring out. carley: that is so cute. will: good stuff. i remember that interview. happy couple. as millions of americans celebrate the extended student loan pause, dirty jobs star mike rowe is asking why so many kids are encouraged to get those loans in the first place? will: you know this touches on two conversations that are near and dear to my heart. first of all, carley, to your point, what does canceling or extending the pause on student loan debt have to do with the pandemic at this point? what is the correlation? what is the relationship whatsoever? it only goes to show our response to the pandemic has been an excuse not about our health, an excuse to employ or put into place policies you wanted anyway. everywhere i look across the world, not just the united states of america i see authoritarian overreach as opportunity because of the pandemic. not in a solution to the pandemic. make the case for me why student loan debt should be paused because of omicron? i can't see it. second really quickly, i talk about it on the will cain podcast all the time. i have two boys, the oldest of which is 13. i'm unconvinced the best path to success is a college degree. that doesn't mean i won't send them to college, encourage college. i know the stats, if you get a degree you will have this type of economic success in life. increasingly, to your point, todd, a college degree is totally disconnected from reality what they're learning what they're taught is indoctrination. it is theoretical, it is good brain exercise but there are a lot of things you can do in this world, not just dirty jobs, entrepreneurial jobs, start something, do something, get to work building a business, to building your life. it doesn't always have to come hand in hand with some esoteric degree. carley: will, you're absolutely right. especially, on both fronts but your point about the fact that this has nothing to do, canceling student loan debt has nothing to do with the pandemic especially going into the third year of the pandemic, we're in a completely different place than 2020. it is the same as the pause on the eviction moratorium. it is stuff. these free giveaways, bigger government is making sure government is in every aspect of somebody's life, that really appeals to progressives. progressives want biden to cancel student loan debt, a complete forgiveness of all student loans which would be an awful idea because if your student loans are forgiven, there is pervasive incentive to take out major student loans, bigger student loans, thinking they will also be canceled. there will be a massive influx of cash in colleges, a lot of these colleges are extremely liberal. so it continues to promote that agenda as well. so there are, so many different elements to the student loan thing which is why progressives want to push it but i also love your point, will, on the fact that college isn't the only answer. sometimes people think that they're going to go to college. their moms and dads say you should go to college. they take out the student loans. they don't finish. you can get a leg up from doing a trade, going to trade school, getting a really solid, high paying job that way as well. we'll stop this conversation here and talk about this. a federal judge dealing a major blow to "the new york times" as the paper's legal fight with project veritas heats up. that rare ruling coming up next. learning is hard work. hard work requires character. learning begins in faith. it must move upwards toward the highest thing, unseen at the beginning - god. and freedom is essential to learning. its principles must be studied and defended. learning, character, faith, and freedom: these are the inseparable purposes of hillsdale college. i may have moderate to severe rheumatoid arthritis. lear or psoriatic arthritis. faith, and freedom: but we are so much more. we're team players and artists. designers and do-it-yourselfers. parents and friends. if joint pain is getting in the way of who you are, it's time to talk to your doctor about enbrel. enbrel helps relieve joint pain, and helps stop permanent joint damage. plus enbrel helps skin get clearer in psoriatic arthritis. ask your doctor about enbrel, so you can get back to your true self. play ball! enbrel may lower your ability to fight infections. serious, sometimes fatal events including infections, tuberculosis, lymphoma, other cancers, nervous system and blood disorders and allergic reactions have occurred. tell your doctor if you've been someplace where fungal infections are common. or if you're prone to infections, have cuts or sores, have had hepatitis b, have been treated for heart failure, or if you have persistent fever, bruising, bleeding or paleness. don't start enbrel if you have an infection like the flu. visit enbrel.com to see how your joint damage could progress. enbrel. eligible patients may pay as little as $5 per month. ♪. will: a new york state judge upheld an order preventing "the new york times" from publishing internal memos between activist group project veritas and its lawyer, the lawyer claiming the legal memos are not a matter of public concern and ordering the paper to return them. project veritas has been locked in a defamation lawsuit against "the new york times" since last year when the newspaper published a piece calling the group's work deceptive. here to react, beverly hallberg. beverly, great to talk to you this morning. project veritas does a form of investigative journalism very few media organizations are willing to do, go out to seek the truth. this op-ed in the hill. quote, miserly man chen stole christmas and hope from american families. the headline right there. it reads as follows in the text, manchin has denied struggling families vital economic support which they desperately need. his role as a democratic obstacle, a democratic obstacle on spending proposals took priority over his compassion to help struggling americans make ends meet including those in his own state. he should be ashamed. the problem with that, will and carley, he actually saved american families including american families going forward and our country's economic survival for the next 10, 20, 30 years, is somewhat more intact, you know, barring anything else that happens throughout the remainder of the joe biden administration, i.e. gas price, i.e., inflation, i.e., the like. despite what this blue check brigade and amateur economists on twitter think, this isn't what real americans want. this isn't what west virginians want and it is so frustrating to see this narrative that joe manchin is a bad guy, and he will ruin the economy of the country by literally sag joe biden's boondoggle for tree equity isn't something that is going to happen. it is mind-boggling, guys, will? will: todd, two key words i think you said were, west virginia. you know joe manchin's job isn't to represent the democratic party. despite outrage from so many he is not pretending to be the president of the united states. he is not his job is representing west virginians. some west virginians say he did that perfectly. the west virginia manufacturing head said this, from supply chain to workforce shortages an rise of costs and goods and services west virginia businesses are struggling. they rushed in response to covid. adding additional taxes to small businesses to pay for myriad programs in the plan would crush the ability to recover and compete in a global economy. the question is not, carley, how charlemagne the god feels about joe manchin, the question is how west virginians feel about joe manchin. carley: the fact that president biden hinged the passing of the sweeping climate change bill on the senator from west virginia is hilarious. maybe he should have rethought that. joe manchin said he would not support it to explain it to the people of west virginia and he can't. in west virginia, people support it one to three. this is something as it stands right now it is never going to pass. if you look at it, west virginia obviously, natural gas, oil, energy, coal, and you're talking about climate change, that will not be something that the people of west virginia support. the other reason why he doesn't want this to pass is because of the child tax credit and the fact there is no work incentive attached to that. he says that that is, that is disincentivizes work, especially we're trying to get people back to work after the pandemic. that is not something that he thinks is good for the economy and the country. i think that speaks to a lot of republicans that, funny thing is he is not a republican as he stands right now. he is a democrat,. todd: todd carley, that child care component. every single american agrees the system of child care before you reach public school and kindergarten needs to be fixed. i agree. i see how much we pay for child car. fortunately we can afford it but not everybody can afford it. if you're trying to do your job and contribute to the economy by doing your part, there should be some measure of child care but to not have a work requirement is absolutely mind-blowing and to not actually require the individuals to bring something to the table in order to get that assistance is also mind-blowing. one final point, i know you're there in a republican state there, will, i'm in a very democrat state here in connecticut. connecticut, in all likelihood is never going red, at least for the time-being but i can say joe manchin represents more of the democrat that i interact with on a day in, day out basis. more of a democrat that i think all of us interact with on a day in, day out basis. the democrat party is hijacked by these progressives. they are forcing joe biden to disavow everything that he did during most of his career and and as a result because of this hijack the democrats are in the situation they're in now. i think this plays right into republican hands as we head into next year. of course the midterms where we are expecting this house blowout and also expecting republican those do pretty darn well in the senate. carley: question, todd, i think you're right and you know the progressives are definitely the loud minority and they're pushing the party much more to the left and really quickly on the child tax credit. this is something that people don't talk about a lot, but i think it is really important piece of this conversation. we do already have a safety net in this country. the build back better bill, democrats say people need help. think so. that is why we have things like welfare around america is such a great country. if you do need a little bit of support, taxpayers will fund that, but you want it to be a net, not a trap. the way a lot of progressives want to throw money at people it traps them in that position where they don't want to go to work for themselves and advance. i don't think that is something that is haitians once again all along the border, this time in tijuana and dozens have landed in the florida keys. border in cowher-- encounters are surging throughout 2021. this has left many to point out the human toll, the cost of this illegal immigration of course, illegal activity invites the opportunity for criminality. criminality of serving as the conduit, as the business enterprise, the cartel of organizing this illegal immigration. robert almonte said this puts migrants right in the bull's-eye of cartels. mexican cartels he said have been heavily in the human trafficking for a long time and now with the rational border crossings they are involved more than ever and they don't see them as people. they see them as commodities like drugs and if the trapped migrants along to the cartel they will kill them. carley: that's right. courtesy of the supreme court that biden administration was recently forced to reinstate to remain in mexico program. that program is one that former president from originally put in place. if you cross into the country illegally from mexico the program says you can't wait in the united states or it's not a catch and release. you go back and wait in mexico as your asylum claim plays out and that really disincentive eyes illegal immigration under former president from, but it's not working and chad will former acting press secretary was on and talked about why. listen. >> the migrants know with the cartels and other smugglers know this administration is not serious about border security and immigration enforcement, so even though they were reinstate remaining mexico they redesigned the program, i think, with a number of loopholes that allow it to not be nearly as effective as we had it operating under the trump administration. you have to send the signal it's not okay to break the laws of the united states and you need to enter through a legal port of entry and you need to do it legally. that's the message they need to send and unfortunately everything they have done in about 11 months since inauguration day is been the complete opposite. carley: chad mentioned the loopholes of the program and the biden administration is only rolling out remaining mexico at seven entry point so that means if the points where it's not implemented it's the same deal so it's like the program doesn't even exist and also if you are pregnant woman, child, physically or mentally ill, older person, indigenous or a member of the lgbt q community, remaining mexico doesn't apply to you so even though the supreme court said the biden administration has to roll it out, they are doing it at eight minute level and essentially paying lip service like it's not implemented at all. >> the problem at this point is wildly out of hand and the biden administration is applying a band-aid and cutting the band-aid in half, taking off that white part that actually does all the work may be sort of an sticky the sticky part of the band-aid so they are absolutely doing nothing as chad wolf explained. i want to go back to something will said when he read the quote from the individual describing this is no longer a border crisis. this is now carnage. people are being slaughtered and yet if we had just stuck with what president trump had done under the trump administration obviously, this would've been preventable. if biden had held, we would not be in the situation, not to say there wouldn't be human smuggling, obviously there would be because it's a worldwide problem that the world it needs to come together to stop, but what the biden administration did was say hey come on here, that facilitated the carnage that we are seeing and it's absolutely heartbreaking. will? will: it's the power of your words. it's the power of the message you send out an carly alluded to that moment ago. it's not just the policies policies are important and you have to put action to the mensch sewage you sent out, but even for joe biden was elected president he put the message out about how they would handle illegal immigration and that served as an invitation. look, you don't have to take my word for it. listen to the words of the have already seen for example texas a&m pulled out of the bowl game because of positive oh run tests pick something fascinating to watch over the next couple of days quite honestly is the national championship for the college football playoffs begin, semi finals just before new year's. all these kids went home. they all went home for christmas for at least a day or two. they come back, they are going to go through the testing regiment. how many will test positive? how many critical players will be able to play in the college football semi finals? just another example of our culture somewhat canceling itself over a pandemic of positive tests. carley: yeah, absolutely and now you have in the nfl changing the rules because so many people test positive and then they sit out of games when they feel completely fine, so now they are only testing people who aren't vaccinated or have symptoms, which is i think is what the country is ultimately going to be doing. the nfl has been the first page organization to sort of change of those rules. there's also a "washington post" headline and article that really caught our attention. apparently, all of us should feel ashamed if we catch covid-19. the headline is: thousands who followed the rules are about to get covid. they shouldn't be ashamed and they have some tips. they say acknowledge it. set it aside and-- in favor of proper health protocol also. don't know or explain the situation. consider it a learning experience. keep in mind that you can't control what others do or think. practice self compassion and remember you are not a failure. i mean, this was so cringe worthy and i said that at the top that if you catch covid we should feel is shame because implied in the headlines is that even though you don't feel ashamed now that if you catch covid at one point there's a level of shame in their. it's always been, todd, this moral superiority that people on the left avenue when it comes to covid-19 is. todd: yeah, that's the question. why is there this emotional baggage attached to covid to begin with? it's an illness. people get sick. it kind of is the whole human experience. why would there be shaving in the first place? we know the answer to that. it's because of the way the liberal media and liberals in general have handled that this virus basically saying you are unvaccinated there in trump country so you are the ones that are causing this virus. it's your fault, when in reality we all know that's not the case. we all know that the numbers that show this is every city in every country throughout the world and when you look at the blue states, for example, you often times see higher numbers, but again politics should be out of this. it's irrelevant whether you are red, blue, purple, doesn't matter. people get sick. we don't shame people for cancer. we don't shame people for heart disease. we shouldn't shame people for this. it's amazing what we are doing in this day and age and to circle back on something you are talking about, will. you mentioned his points earlier. if i'm not mistaken on the national championship college football playoff situation, alabama plays at cincinnati. if i'm not mistaken, alabama if they can't go with a number of players, they have to forfeit and that's insane. will: cincinnati in that scenario. todd: that's absolutely-- in my mind-- will: by the way, todd, if both teams can feel the game or don't have enough players or don't feel safe than the other becomes the national championship game so they've already made a contingency plan and really to give the final word on what you said carly coming you know we have spent the better part of two years pretending or at least not we, you know much of it-- i don't use these words as like overgeneralization, but they serve useful, most of the mainstream media and yet it comes from politicians largely on the left have politicized the idea of covid and getting covid has been treated like getting an std. if you got sick, you did something to deserve it, you went unvaccinated, lived in florida, you didn't wear your mascot. they treated it like these were things that good rule followers would have done to protect themselves. as time goes on in reality sets in, you have to amend that judgment or at least try to amend that judgment because it was absurd from the beginning. they ignore blue state infection while you cry florida and like mask would protect them all along and they did not. now they have to reconcile the fact that vaccination status isn't a big differentiator. when we do? treated with compassion, the way you should've done all along, by the way. carley: i know and it's a wild that tomorrow in new york city there's going to be a city mandated vaccine mandate on all private businesses, which is such a wild government overreach for the government to-- by the way who's leaving office in like a second to implement something that affects all workers that's not the point of government. america was founded to inhibit large government , big government and keep it small. this is, like i said, such a massive overreach vaccine mandate will be implemented, todd, when we are learning that even vaccinated people are spreading omicron, so why are we even doing it? todd: not to get graphic, but omicron exists in the upper passageway of the nose and it is this there and can be spread from there and vaccine status-- yes, it may help some, but it's not a panacea. people need to be safe and do what they need to do to keep themselves safe while realizing look, going let's ask fox news contributor karl rove. good morning america christmas. >> thank you. merry christmas. carley: there are a lot of things democrats have to worry about going into the new year and one of them are all these retirements happening just ahead of the midterm elections. >> there are a lot of retirements and what's interesting to me is three of the retirements are chairs of committee, chairman of the transportation committee, budget committee, science committee, clearly a sign-- if you are a chairman, for most people in congress, that's the highest point in what they are doing is walking away because democrats understand they will begin the minority and these people are not going to be chairman again for four, six, eight years, god knows how long so senior democratic leave years-- leaders deputy whip in a swing district in florida is pulling the record. one of the cardinals, these are the people on the appropriations committee who chair a subcommittee, have enormous sway over parts of the budget, california lucille is leaving. we also have the former chairman of the democratic congressional campaign committee of illinois, here is someone who knows politics and she's getting out. butterfield, former chair of the congressional black caucus is leaving. we have four people running for the senate. if they are going to have a bad election year at least go for an open senate seat. if they lose they are out of politics and if they win they don't have to run for another six years and there is someone saying i would rather run for la mayor. some said i'm running for the nomination maryland attorney general then rather than run again. that's a sign that they understand what will happen which democrats will lose control of the house. carley: we heard the biden administration is still in talks with senator mansion on build back better even though he said he is a know what this time. they are still putting the pressure on him. what happens next year? do you think they can get anything done on this front? >> no, they will get anything done. he's been very quick about this and if they wrote a bill that would get joe mansions vote and kristen cinemas about in all likelihood they would have serious perfection on the far left of their party because the progressive caucus won't stand for just a little way and that's way they wanted the whole enchilada. they had every bit of that bill stuffed with welfare expansion, expansion of the welfare state and in order to hide the because they made the expansions to the welfare state last between one and six years paid for with 10 years of revenue so anyone who looks at that says it's a financial disaster and something we can afford as a country. we don't want the government to be growing that big and take over so many things. no, they will get it done. that has not stopped them from attacking joe manchin. it's unbelievable. if you wanted to get something done, would you have one of the rising stars in the democratic caucus in the house, congressman bowman of new york call him a racist? saying he's a white man it doesn't care about what-- black people or latinos. the leader of the house of the progressive caucus called him a liar and a traitor. president biden referred to him in a news conference as a deceptive which had to be walked back later by jen psaki and aoc said he misled the president and lied to the president. the white house had to deny it took place, but these attacks on joe manchin will do no good for the democratic caucus and for every action of a politics there's an opposite and opposing reaction and among centrist democrats they will say really, that's how they treat us, the people that gave them the majority, the progressives hate us, but little less because we-- may disagree with them, that doesn't make for a good caucus. carley: really, we talked about the executive branch. talking about kamala harris this morning. is there anything she can do to write the ship her poll numbers are in the tank, down the tubes, however you want to describe it they are low and she's speaking out to the media and her people say she's not happy. >> well, there's something she could do to right the ship and that's to do a confident job, but thus far whether it's immigration or voting rights or anything else they have given her she's been incompetent. i love your segment on her earlier. in politics some politicians have a tell, just like in poker, you look for that little thing that indicates there's a weakness. hers is the cackle. whenever she goes and laughs inappropriately in the middle of an answer at the start of an answer, it means she's really nervous because she knows she doesn't have a good answer and the question was have you done anything wrong and she started to laugh and said well, i didn't get out of washington enough. no, no, you didn't get your job done. you didn't do anything on immigration, nothing on voting rights that made anything political horse sense and what else have you done that's been useful to the country? this woman's problem is not getting out of washington, it's staying in washington and getting her job done confidently. carley: thank you for joining us. >> thanks for interviewing me rather than those two mugs you got there. carley: i had to fight them to get this interview. kidding. lucky to have it. see you, carl. >> thank you. carley: hundreds of schools are returning to remote after the holidays, but some mental health experts warn that will do so much more harm than good. victor davis hanson reacts coming up. ♪♪ i may have moderate to severe rheumatoid arthritis. or psoriatic arthritis. but we are so much more. we're team players and artists. designers and do-it-yourselfers. parents and friends. if joint pain is getting in the way of who you are, it's time to talk to your doctor about enbrel. enbrel helps relieve joint pain, and helps stop permanent joint damage. plus enbrel helps skin get clearer in psoriatic arthritis. ask your doctor about enbrel, so you can get back to your true self. play ball! enbrel may lower your ability to fight infections. serious, sometimes fatal events including infections, tuberculosis, lymphoma, other cancers, nervous system and blood disorders and allergic reactions have occurred. tell your doctor if you've been someplace where fungal infections are common. or if you're prone to infections, have cuts or sores, have had hepatitis b, have been treated for heart failure, or if you have persistent fever, bruising, bleeding or paleness. don't start enbrel if you have an infection like the flu. visit enbrel.com to see how your joint damage could progress. enbrel. eligible patients may pay as little as $5 per month. >> learning caused a lot of problems online. not only academic development, but also mental health and even physical health. >> those with hearing loss are unable to access and for those who may have blindness or low-vision concern, sitting in front of a tiny screen is not the same. todd: mental health experts warning about the impact of a virtual learning if nearly 300 schools cancel in-person classes due to colored concerns. hoover institution senior fellow victor davis hanson joins us. thank you for being here. merry christmas. these numbers are not very jolly and in fact these numbers are frightening. 31% jump in mental health er visits among kids age 12 to 17 and then there's this one, this is a punch in the gut, 51% jump in er visits among girls for suspected suicide attempts. victor, what becomes of this covert generation of kids when they become adults and have the future of our country on their shoulders?
